One long-time camper, who has been visiting Shellrock Creek Campground for over 25 years, speaks highly of its beauty, quiet atmosphere, and improved upkeep in recent years. Their strong affinity for this location, stating they "won't camp anywhere else" if they have a choice, underscores the positive and lasting impression this campground has on its visitors. This sentiment suggests a consistent quality and a welcoming environment that keeps people returning year after year. The anticipation of bringing future generations to this same spot further emphasizes its value as a cherished family camping destination.
Another review provides a balanced perspective, outlining both the advantages and disadvantages of Shellrock Creek Campground. Among the pros is the presence of essential amenities such as a garbage dump and a built-out hole-in-the-ground toilet facility. The availability of running water near some campsites is also highlighted as a significant benefit, particularly for its role in reducing mosquito populations, which can greatly enhance the comfort of the camping experience. Additionally, the abundance of fallen wood for supplementing firewood supplies is a practical advantage for campers who enjoy campfires. The review also notes the generous size of some campsites, capable of accommodating large groups with multiple tents, making it suitable for family gatherings or camping with friends. Its proximity to Portland, being only about an hour and a half away, makes it a convenient getaway for local residents of the metropolitan area.
However, the same review points out a few cons that potential visitors should be aware of. The limited number of campsites, only eight in total, means that securing a spot can be risky, especially during busy camping weekends, without prior scouting. This necessitates some advance planning, potentially involving someone checking availability ahead of time. Another factor to consider is the lack of cell service at the campground. While some may appreciate this digital detox, it requires careful planning for meeting up with others, as Estacada is the nearest town with cell service. Lastly, the reviewer mentions the cost, $19 per night plus $8 for each additional vehicle beyond the first, which they consider a bit expensive for the site's offerings.

For local users browsing the 'camping near me' category, Shellrock Creek Campground offers the appeal of a beautiful and quiet camping experience, backed by years of positive feedback from returning visitors. The spacious campsites and the availability of running water are notable advantages. Shellrock Creek Campground Reviews
I have been coming to this campground since I was in high school with my family. Over 25 years now. I won't camp anywhere else! (If I have any say in it!) This is a beautiful, quiet, well kept campground. (well kept starting in the last year or so....) I will bring my children's children here.
May 30, 2019 · Sunshine MendezThis camp site has a lot of pros and a few cons.Pros - Has a garbage dump, has a built out hole in the ground toilet, running water near some of the camp sites cuts down on mosquitoes, Plenty of fallen wood to supplement your first wood supply. Some of these sites are very large and can accommodate up to 5+ 2 person tents. This site is also only about a hour and a half away from Portland.Cons - There is only 8 campsites at this location so its a bit risky on busy camping weekends if you don't have someone scout ahead of time. No cell service at the site (which I actually like) means meeting up needs to be planned ahead of time (Estacada is the closest town with service). Last its a bit expensive for this site running at $19 per night and $8 per additional cars beyond the first one.
