Camp Ten (Olallie Lake) Campground

Very, very, long, pot hole filled, gravel road for about the last 12 to 15 miles of the trip. Highly recommend a higher clearance vehicle, as different sections of the road, make it extremely difficult for the lower clearance vehicles. The last 15 miles takes about an hour or do to drive due to having to drive so slow. Road narrows in multiple spots, and makes it difficult when passing vehicles. WITH ALL THAT SAID,THIS LAKE WAS WELL WORTH THE DRIVE AND ANXIETY! We rented a canoe, went fishing[not the best but fun for the kids and we did catch 2 rainbow trouts], went hiking/walking around the lake, floating-water is pretty shallow most of the way out until you get out closer to the middle, pretty calm and relaxing area, bonus is that it forces everyone to unplug since there is no cell service! Hope this helps the next traveler! BIG TIP BRING A PAPER MAP OR DOWNLOAD OFFLINE MAPS AS YOU WILL NEED THEM! Picture below of the lake from 2 different viewpoints, and a picture of the gravel road in a nicer part of the road! Also they have a little store at the resort that sells ice, some trinkets, and other small items you may have forgotten! - Becca R

Camp Ten (Olallie Lake) Campground Introduce

For local outdoor enthusiasts seeking a truly remote "camping near me" experience, Camp Ten (Olallie Lake) Campground, situated near Detroit, Oregon, offers a unique opportunity to connect with nature far from the everyday hustle. While the journey to this destination presents some challenges, as highlighted by recent visitors, the reward is a tranquil lake setting with opportunities for various recreational activities and a forced digital detox due to the lack of cell service.

One of the most significant aspects to be aware of when planning a trip to Camp Ten (Olallie Lake) Campground is the condition of the access road. Multiple reviews emphasize a very long stretch, approximately 12 to 15 miles, of pot-hole filled gravel road leading to the campground. Travelers strongly recommend using a higher clearance vehicle for this final leg of the journey, as certain sections of the road can be extremely difficult, if not impassable, for lower clearance cars. The drive on this gravel road is reported to take around an hour or more due to the need to drive slowly to navigate the uneven terrain. Additionally, the road narrows in several places, which can make passing oncoming vehicles challenging. It is crucial for potential visitors to factor this travel time and vehicle suitability into their plans.

Despite the challenging access road, the overwhelming sentiment from those who have made the journey is that "this lake was well worth the drive and anxiety!" Olallie Lake itself is described as a pretty calm and relaxing area, offering a picturesque setting for a variety of activities. One visitor recounted renting a canoe and enjoying fishing on the lake. While the fishing may not be described as the "best," it still provided fun for children, and they successfully caught a couple of rainbow trout. The lake is also noted to be shallow for a considerable distance from the shore, making it suitable for floating.

Beyond the lake itself, the area around Camp Ten (Olallie Lake) Campground offers opportunities for hiking and walking. Visitors have enjoyed exploring the trails around the lake, taking in the natural beauty of the surroundings. One review mentions that the lake's surroundings are "otherwise completely burned," which is described as sad but still offering a sense of "remote beauty and silence." This suggests a unique landscape, perhaps with recovering vegetation alongside the starkness of the burned areas, providing a different kind of natural experience.

A significant feature of Camp Ten (Olallie Lake) Campground is the complete absence of cell service. While this might be a drawback for some, it is also seen as a "bonus" by others, as it "forces everyone to unplug." This provides a genuine opportunity to disconnect from digital devices and fully immerse oneself in the natural environment, fostering a sense of peace and tranquility that can be rare in our digitally connected world.

Given the lack of cell service, a crucial tip for travelers heading to Camp Ten (Olallie Lake) Campground is to "bring a paper map or download offline maps" as they will undoubtedly be needed for navigation. Relying solely on GPS or online maps is not advisable in this area.

For added convenience, there is reportedly a "little store at the resort" near the campground. This store offers essential items such as ice, as well as some trinkets and other small items that campers may have forgotten, providing a valuable resource in this remote location.

In terms of promotional information, the primary promotion for Camp Ten (Olallie Lake) Campground comes from the positive experiences shared by visitors regarding the lake and the surrounding natural beauty. While the access road is a significant consideration, the allure of a remote lake experience with opportunities for canoeing, fishing, hiking, and a digital detox is a strong draw for those seeking a more secluded camping adventure. The presence of a small store for essential supplies adds a layer of convenience that enhances the appeal of this remote location.

For local users searching for "camping near me" that offers a departure from more easily accessible campgrounds and a chance to truly disconnect, Camp Ten (Olallie Lake) Campground presents a compelling option. The stunning lake, coupled with the hiking opportunities and the enforced digital break, creates a unique camping experience.
