Camp Williams Resort Introduce
Camp Williams Resort, located at 24210 E Fork Rd, Azusa, CA 91702, is a long-standing and cherished outdoor destination within the 'Camping Near Me' category. Nestled in the picturesque San Gabriel Mountains and situated along the East Fork of the San Gabriel River, this resort offers a unique blend of rustic charm and essential amenities, making it a popular choice for families, groups, and individuals seeking a natural escape near the greater Los Angeles area.
The environment of Camp Williams Resort is undoubtedly its most compelling feature, consistently highlighted by visitors as a key reason for their return. The campground is "nestled against the river and the water is crystal clear with a view of the mountains," providing a breathtaking natural backdrop. Campers can enjoy the tranquil sounds of the San Gabriel River, which is described as having "warm and clear" water, inviting activities like swimming and wading. A particularly charming detail is the presence of "a stream that is perfect for small children to wade in" tucked away on the side, offering a safe and enjoyable water experience for younger campers.
The resort is located in the "spectacular San Gabriel Mountains," offering a peaceful respite from city life. Visitors can expect to find "shaded, full hookup campsites that are big rig friendly and all overlook the San Gabriel River." This provides a serene and scenic setting for RVs, while tent campers can enjoy "direct riverfront" sites. The surrounding Angeles National Forest offers ample opportunities for connecting with nature, from "greenery" to "challenging hiking trails." The climate in Azusa generally features sunny summer days and mild winters, making Camp Williams Resort a "year-round campground."
While the natural beauty is paramount, it's important for visitors to be aware of the wildlife in the area. Reviewers mention the presence of "Rattlesnakes and bears around," though they note not seeing any during their specific visit. This underscores the need for campers to practice caution and respect for wildlife, ensuring proper food storage and awareness of their surroundings. The relatively remote location ensures "plenty of wide, open spaces," offering a genuine sense of escape from urban density.
Camp Williams Resort strives to provide a comfortable camping experience while maintaining a rustic atmosphere. The resort offers a variety of accommodation options, including "full hookup campsites" for RVs with "50/30/20 amp" connections, water, and sewer. They also have "tenting directly on the banks of the San Gabriel River East Fork" and even a "cozy camping cabin — Hobbit House" which includes cots, lights, and an electrical outlet, providing a step up from traditional tent camping. Each site, whether RV or tent, typically includes "picnic tables, fire circles, and grills," allowing for traditional outdoor cooking and gathering.
General amenities available to campers include "restrooms with hot showers and laundry facilities." However, specific customer feedback indicates that maintenance can be inconsistent; one review notes that "The bathroom could have been a little cleaner but weren't dirty," and critically, "Only one shower worked and required tokens to use." This highlights an area where facilities might vary in their immediate condition. For essential supplies, there is an "on-site Café & General Store," which offers convenience, although some prices, like "$7.00" for a "bag of ice" and "$6.00" for "two small bags of chips," might be higher than off-site retailers.
For communication and connectivity, the resort offers "free WiFi and cable TV" in RV sites, which is a significant bonus for those needing to stay connected. There's also mention of good "cell reception" in the area, although it's always advisable to verify carrier-specific performance.
Beyond the basics, Camp Williams Resort provides a range of activities and services:
- Recreational Activities: Visitors can enjoy "swimming outdoors" in the river, "fishing" (with wild trout, carp, bass, and panfish in the San Gabriel River), "gold panning," and "hiking" on challenging trails. The resort itself has "riverfront walking paths" for leisurely strolls.
- On-site Management: The presence of "on-site managers" is highly praised, with one reviewer highlighting "Kathy, goes above and beyond to ensure our annual retreat goes smoothly. She makes our weekend special every year!" and actively "checks in throughout the weekend to be sure we have everything we need." This indicates a dedicated and helpful management team, willing to accommodate requests like moving to a "better spot."
- Group Events: The resort is ideal for "Scouting camp-outs and events" and can accommodate large groups, as evidenced by the mention of a "130 women camp," highlighting its capacity and suitability for retreats. They also have venues like the "Officer's Club, Sunrise Hall Chapel, and the Service Club" available for rent for various gatherings.
- Pet-Friendly: The park "allows pets," making it a welcoming destination for those traveling with their furry companions.
- Long-Term Stays: Camp Williams also operates as a "Mobile Home Resort" with "sites available" for long-term residents, offering a unique "in-ground pool" exclusively for mobile home residents.
Under the 'Camping Near Me' category, Camp Williams Resort is an attractive option for local users in Southern California, particularly those seeking a riverfront camping experience in the San Gabriel Mountains. It caters to a diverse audience, including families looking for a fun outdoor adventure, groups planning retreats or events, and individuals seeking a peaceful escape with opportunities for hiking and water activities.

Aug 06, 2024 · Daniel Romero8lThe manager of Camp William’s, Kathy, goes above and beyond to ensure our annual retreat goes smoothly. She makes our weekend special every year! We have 130 women camp, for many for the first time, and she checks in throughout the weekend to be sure we have everything we need. The campsite is nestled against the river and the water is crystal clear with a view of the mountains. Tucked on the side is a stream that is perfect for small children to wade in.If I could rate higher than five stars I would!
