Big Dalton Day Camp

This place is awesome. The trails are moderately easy for older people and children so it's family friendly. There are two trails that are difficult though. There is a lot of wild life. I've came across a rattlesnake, two other types of snakes, many species of birds, squirrels lizards, and insects like butterflies. In the creek there are tadpoles, crawfish or prongs, and frogs. The big downside is that going upstream the trail ends shortly and you run into a construction site that leads to a damn. - sergio ramirez (Checo)

While the name includes "Day Camp," reviews indicate that it is primarily utilized for hiking and enjoying the natural surroundings, suggesting it functions more as a recreational area with trails rather than a traditional overnight campground. Therefore, for those seeking a day trip into nature with potential for exploration and wildlife observation, Big Dalton Day Camp warrants consideration.

Based on feedback from visitors, the environment at Big Dalton Day Camp is rich and diverse. One reviewer enthusiastically describes it as "awesome," highlighting the presence of trails that cater to various fitness levels. The trails are noted to be "moderately easy for older people and children," making it a family-friendly destination. However, for those seeking a greater challenge, there are also "two trails that are difficult," offering a range of options for different hiking preferences and abilities. The presence of a creek further enhances the natural appeal of the area, providing scenic views and opportunities for observing aquatic life.

A significant feature of Big Dalton Day Camp, as reported by a visitor, is the abundance of wildlife. Encounters with a rattlesnake and two other types of snakes indicate the presence of reptiles, so caution and awareness are advised. The area is also home to "many species of birds," appealing to birdwatching enthusiasts, as well as squirrels, lizards, and various insects, including butterflies. The creek itself supports a variety of aquatic life, with observations of tadpoles, crawfish (or prongs), and frogs, making it an interesting area for nature study and observation, particularly for children.

Another visitor specifically mentions that Big Dalton Day Camp is a "nice place to hike with your dog," suggesting that the area is pet-friendly, which is a significant draw for many outdoor enthusiasts. The presence of "nice little creeks" adds to the scenic beauty and provides a refreshing element to the hiking experience. This reviewer also notes a preference for weekdays over weekends, indicating that the area can become "a little crowded" on weekends, which is typical for popular recreational spots near urban areas. Planning a visit on a weekday might offer a quieter and more solitary experience for those who prefer it.

While the reviews primarily focus on the hiking trails and wildlife, one reviewer mentions a "big downside." They noted that going upstream along the trail, it "ends shortly," leading to a "construction site that leads to a damn." This suggests that while the initial parts of the trails are enjoyable, exploration in at least one direction is limited by ongoing construction and a man-made structure. This is an important piece of information for potential visitors who might be expecting extensive uninterrupted trail systems. It would be beneficial to inquire about the current status of any construction and trail accessibility before planning a visit to ensure it aligns with expectations.

Given that the primary use seems to be for day activities like hiking and nature observation, the "services" at Big Dalton Day Camp likely include basic infrastructure to support these activities. This might include parking areas for visitors, trail markers to guide hikers, and possibly picnic areas for those wanting to enjoy a meal in nature. Restroom facilities are typically expected at such recreational areas, although the reviews do not explicitly mention them. It would be prudent to confirm the availability of restrooms and other basic amenities, such as water fountains or trash receptacles, before visiting.

There is no specific promotional information available in the provided reviews. However, the inherent appeal of Big Dalton Day Camp lies in its accessibility for local residents of Glendora and surrounding areas, offering a quick escape into nature with family-friendly hiking trails and opportunities for wildlife viewing. The mention of both easy and more challenging trails caters to a broad range of fitness levels. The presence of a creek adds a scenic and ecological element, making it a potentially engaging destination for nature lovers and families with children.

For local users searching under "Camping Near Me" who are primarily interested in day use areas for hiking and nature exploration rather than overnight camping, Big Dalton Day Camp appears to be a valuable resource. The positive feedback regarding the trails and wildlife suggests a rewarding experience for those who enjoy outdoor activity and observing nature. However, the limitation of the upstream trail due to construction is a factor to consider. It is recommended that potential visitors contact the provided phone number, (626) 914-8228 or +1 626-914-8228, to inquire about the current status of trail accessibility, the availability of amenities like restrooms and parking, and any other relevant information to ensure a satisfactory visit to Big Dalton Day Camp.

A noted limitation is the dead end of the upstream trail due to construction. For local users seeking a "Camping Near Me" experience focused on day hiking and nature appreciation, Big Dalton Day Camp presents an appealing option, with the recommendation to verify current conditions and amenities by contacting the park management.
