Campground 1 Introduce
Seeking a "camping near me" experience in the scenic landscapes of Missouri? Campground 1, located on MO-143 in Des Arc, MO 63636, USA, offers a destination with both positive attributes and aspects to consider for your next outdoor adventure. Based on recent customer reviews, this campground presents a mix of appealing features and potential drawbacks that are important for prospective visitors to be aware of.
Situated in southeastern Missouri, the area around Des Arc is characterized by its natural beauty, likely featuring forests, rivers, and rolling terrain typical of the Ozark foothills. The proximity to MO-143 suggests that the campground may offer relatively easy access. While the specific natural environment of Campground 1 itself is not extensively detailed in the reviews, the mention of a "beautiful camp ground" indicates an aesthetically pleasing setting. The surrounding region likely provides opportunities for outdoor activities such as hiking, fishing, and exploring the natural landscapes of southeastern Missouri.
One of the frequently praised aspects of Campground 1 is its maintenance and cleanliness. A reviewer described it as a "Beautiful camp ground. Well maintained." This suggests that the campground management takes care in keeping the grounds tidy and presentable for visitors, which contributes positively to the overall camping experience. Furthermore, the shower and bathroom facilities are highlighted as being "roomy and clean" with "Hot good pressure water." Clean and functional restrooms and showers are essential amenities for a comfortable camping trip, and Campground 1 appears to deliver well in this regard.
The size and layout of the campsites at Campground 1 seem to vary. One reviewer noted that "Some camp spots are more roomy than others." This implies that when booking, it might be beneficial to inquire about the dimensions and space available at different sites to ensure it meets your needs, especially if you have a larger tent or require more space for your setup and activities.
An important factor to consider for those seeking a quiet retreat is the presence of road noise. One reviewer mentioned, "You do get some noise from the road that runs through the park but otherwise quiet in late September." This indicates that while the campground may be generally peaceful, the proximity to MO-143 can result in some level of traffic noise. The reviewer also noted that it was "otherwise quiet in late September," suggesting that the noise might be more noticeable during busier times or that the overall ambiance becomes more tranquil during the late season.
However, another reviewer had a different experience regarding the noise level and crowding, stating, "It was nice not much quiet but okay. Maybe too many people and crowded at the time." This suggests that the level of quietness and the degree of crowding can vary depending on the time of visit, with peak seasons or weekends potentially leading to a more populated and less tranquil atmosphere. Prospective visitors might want to consider the timing of their trip and inquire about typical occupancy levels.
One significant concern raised by a reviewer pertains to the water level, stating, "Water level is so up and fast you can't sit or stand there." While the specific body of water is not identified (it could be a river or lake near the campground), this indicates a potentially hazardous condition that might limit access to or enjoyment of nearby water-based activities. It would be prudent to inquire about the water conditions and any safety advisories if you plan on engaging in activities near the water.
Another issue mentioned by a reviewer is the lack of provided trash bags, stating, "Nobody have provided trash begs." This suggests that campers may need to bring their own trash bags to properly dispose of their waste and maintain the cleanliness of their campsite. Being prepared with your own trash disposal system is advisable.
The same reviewer also noted, "Didn't find the hosts to meet & greet." This could indicate a lack of visible campground staff upon arrival or during their stay, which might affect the check-in process or the availability of assistance if needed. While one reviewer had a positive check-in experience, this contrasting feedback suggests that the level of host interaction might vary.
Regarding essential amenities, the reviewer mentioned, "Washrooms okay and closed by from 095 Family basic campsite." This confirms the availability of washroom facilities and their proximity to at least one campsite area. However, the term "okay" suggests they might not be as highly rated as the shower/bathrooms mentioned by the other reviewer.
A practical advantage of Campground 1's location is the proximity to a Dollar General store, as mentioned by one reviewer: "There is dollar general store near by so you can get what you want your basic needs." This can be convenient for campers who need to purchase supplies, groceries, or other necessities during their stay, reducing the need to travel long distances for basic provisions.
An important safety concern raised in one review is the presence of wildlife: "Middle of the night bear come so just make sure you get aware." This indicates that bears are active in the area, and campers need to take appropriate precautions to ensure their safety and prevent attracting wildlife to their campsites. This includes proper food storage in bear-resistant containers or vehicles and being aware of their surroundings, especially during nighttime hours.
Despite some of the concerns raised, the overall experience for one reviewer was "good so far," suggesting that the positive aspects of Campground 1 can outweigh the drawbacks for many visitors. However, it is crucial for potential campers to be aware of the potential for road noise, crowding, fluctuating water levels, the need to bring their own trash bags, and the presence of bears to make an informed decision and prepare accordingly.
The provided information does not include any details about specific services and amenities offered at Campground 1, such as the availability of RV hookups, fire pits, picnic tables, laundry facilities, or recreational areas. Nor does it mention any specific promotional offers or seasonal discounts. To obtain comprehensive information about these aspects, it is recommended to contact the campground directly or check their website or online booking platforms, if available.
In conclusion, Campground 1 near Des Arc, MO, offers a "beautiful" and "well maintained" camping environment with "roomy and clean" shower and bathroom facilities. However, potential visitors should be aware of the possibility of road noise, especially during certain times, and the potential for crowding during peak seasons. The fluctuating water levels in nearby water bodies and the presence of bears are important safety considerations. Campers should also come prepared with their own trash bags. The proximity to a Dollar General store offers convenience for basic needs. For detailed information on campsite types, amenities, services, and any current promotions, it is advisable to contact Campground 1 directly before making your reservation. This will help ensure a well-prepared and enjoyable "camping near me" experience.

Beautiful camp ground. Well maintained. Shower/bathrooms are roomy and clean. Hot good pressure water. Some camp spots are more roomy than others. You do get some noise from the road that runs through the park but otherwise quiet in late September. Definitely will stay again.

Aug 14, 2023 · Pia TalatiWe Love Sam A. Baker State park. We have been going for 20 years. I am however very very disappointed in the new owner of the campground store. I was told it is corporate owned. And they carry NONE of the local crafts that they had. There used to be 3 rows of local crafts. It was so fun to explore the store. A highlight of our trip. Now there's none of that. Very disappointing.
Sep 18, 2024 · Racheal JohnsonGreat tree covered campground with sites not cramped on top of each area. Electric only sites with water access randomly scattered. Shower house is nice and we'll kept. Close to easy water launch access, and swimming in creek.
Aug 28, 2023 · brian bOne of my favorite places to go, it's very relaxing and beautiful. The campground hosts are very friendly and attentive to every need! Also go check out the midlick mountain store and grill, they have everything you forgot at home. The grill staff are very warming and the food is delicious with good portions!
