We found this place when we were heading from West 64 towards Virginia Beach and we had pulled off onto a roadside rest to get some a few hours of sleep because we were pulling our camper. We were gonna stay in the camper at the roadside rest, but you know they do not have Electric hook up so while we were at the roadside rest, I googled campground and we found this place. Long story short we headed here. We arrived a few minutes before midnight and was quickly got a campground spot. It was 37.50 for one night. The campground is on top of the hill behind the truckstop so it is separated from the trucks and we really couldn’t hear any noise. We stayed the night and got up the next morning and left. But it was safe and it had a hook up electric and sewer. For 3750 a night we will make this our stop now on when we’re passing through. I can’t really say I will give this place five stars because we only pulled in. We slept and then we left so I didn’t really experience the campground. It doesn’t look like there are any amenities. It looks like there are some long-term campers living here. That is fine with me because I needed to just pull in hook up get some sleep and leave and there were several other RVs doing the same. There is an IHOP at the truckstop. Might have been a decent view across the little valley but there was low fog. - The 614

Campground At Lee Hi Travel Plaza Introduce

For local users and travelers alike searching for "camping near me" in the vicinity of Lexington, Virginia, the Campground At Lee Hi Travel Plaza, located at 2516 N Lee Hwy, Lexington, VA 24450, offers a practical option, particularly for those needing a convenient overnight stop with RV hookups. Situated directly off the highway at the Lee Hi Travel Plaza, this campground provides easy access for those on the road.

One reviewer shared their experience of finding this campground while traveling from West 64 towards Virginia Beach. They were initially planning to rest at a roadside stop but sought a location with electric hookups for their camper. Their search led them to Campground At Lee Hi Travel Plaza, where they arrived late at night and were promptly assigned a campsite. The cost for one night was $37.50. A key positive aspect highlighted was the campground's location "on top of the hill behind the truckstop," which effectively separated it from truck noise. The reviewer noted that they "really couldn’t hear any noise" from the trucks, suggesting a relatively peaceful environment despite its proximity to a travel plaza.

This same reviewer mentioned the availability of essential hookups, specifically "electric and sewer," which are crucial for RV travelers. They indicated that for the price of $37.50 per night, they would consider making this their regular stop when passing through the area. While their stay was brief, focusing primarily on sleep, they felt it was a "safe" location. They also observed that the campground appeared to have "some long-term campers living here," which they personally did not find problematic, as their need was simply an overnight hookup and rest. The reviewer noted the absence of visible amenities within the campground itself but pointed out the presence of an IHOP restaurant at the truck stop, offering a convenient dining option. They also mentioned a potentially decent view across a small valley, although low fog obscured it during their stay.

Another reviewer corroborated the easy access to and from the highway, describing it as a significant advantage for travelers. They noted the presence of an "old but clean bathroom" but also pointed out a basic but important issue: "No toilet paper." This reviewer also confirmed the availability of "full hook ups" and a slightly higher price of $43.50. They specifically recommended the campground as "Perfect for travelers" and mentioned the availability of "Pull through sites," which are particularly convenient for larger RVs as they eliminate the need to back in.

Based on these reviews, the Campground At Lee Hi Travel Plaza appears to primarily cater to the needs of overnight RV travelers seeking convenient highway access and essential hookups. The separation from the main truck stop area seems to mitigate potential noise issues, which is a significant benefit for a campground located at a travel plaza. The availability of electric and sewer hookups, and full hookups as mentioned by the second reviewer (presumably including water as well), makes it suitable for RVs requiring these services.

The mention of an IHOP at the truck stop provides a readily accessible option for meals without requiring a separate trip. The possibility of a scenic view, even if not always visible due to fog, suggests a potentially pleasant aspect to the location. The presence of long-term campers indicates a community of residents, which may or may not be a factor for short-term travelers, depending on their preferences.

However, the reviews also highlight some potential drawbacks. The first reviewer noted the apparent lack of amenities within the campground itself, suggesting it is more of a functional stopover than a destination for extended stays focused on recreation or leisure facilities. The second reviewer's comment about the bathroom being "old" and lacking toilet paper points to a need for potential improvement in the restroom facilities. While clean is a positive attribute, the absence of a basic necessity like toilet paper is a significant oversight that potential visitors should be aware of.

For local users searching for "camping near me," the Campground At Lee Hi Travel Plaza might be a suitable option if their primary need is a convenient location with full RV hookups for an overnight stay or a short stopover while traveling. The easy highway access could also be beneficial for locals planning a quick getaway and needing a hassle-free departure. However, those seeking a campground with extensive amenities, recreational facilities, or a more traditional camping environment might find this location less appealing, based on the available reviews.

The price points mentioned, $37.50 and $43.50 per night, seem reasonable for a full hookup RV site, especially considering the convenience for travelers. However, it would be advisable to confirm the current pricing and any potential additional fees when booking. Information regarding promotional offers or discounts is not available in the provided reviews, so direct inquiry with the campground at the provided phone numbers, (540) 448-1942 or +1 540-448-1942, would be necessary to ascertain if any such options exist.

In conclusion, the Campground At Lee Hi Travel Plaza in Lexington, Virginia, offers a convenient and functional camping option, particularly for RV travelers seeking easy highway access and full hookups for overnight stays. The separation from the truck stop area helps to minimize noise. While it appears to lack extensive amenities and the bathroom facilities may be basic, its practicality and strategic location make it a viable choice for those on the move. Local users needing a quick and easy RV stop near Lexington should consider this campground, but those looking for a more amenity-rich or traditional camping experience might need to explore other options in the area. It is recommended to call the campground directly to confirm current rates, amenities, and bathroom conditions.
