Historic Cold Sulphur Springs Campground Introduce
For local users seeking "camping near me" in the Goshen, Virginia area, Historic Cold Sulphur Springs Campground, located at 96 Sand Bank Vw Ln, Goshen, VA 24439, presents a camping destination with a mix of modern and primitive camping options. The available customer reviews offer insights into the services, staff, and environment of this campground, which should be considered by prospective visitors.
One review highlights the availability of "amazing modern camp site with access to electric, water and bathhouse." This suggests that for campers seeking convenience and amenities, Historic Cold Sulphur Springs Campground offers well-equipped sites. The reviewer specifically praised Zoe, the host, for being "very helpful and accommodating" and for assisting in selecting the best site based on their needs, emphasizing her excellent customer service skills. Another staff member, Timmy, was also mentioned as being "very helpful." Furthermore, the reviewer noted positive interactions with "seasonal campers who were super nice and extraordinarily helpful," indicating a potentially welcoming and community-oriented atmosphere within the campground for some visitors.
In contrast, another review provides a less positive experience, specifically regarding the "PRIMITIVE camping site." This reviewer found it to be "WAYYYYYY overpriced for what it was," expressing an expectation of being closer to swimmable water and feeling that the $60 cost was not justified. Instead, the experience was likened to being on private land with the added disturbance of "people riding loud 4-wheelers all around us until like 10:30 pm." Based on this experience, the reviewer stated they "would not camp here again," citing both the perceived lack of value for the primitive site and the noise issue.
Considering these two reviews, it appears that Historic Cold Sulphur Springs Campground offers different types of camping experiences, with potentially varying levels of satisfaction depending on the chosen site type and individual expectations. The availability of modern campsites with electric, water, and bathhouse access seems to be a significant advantage for those seeking these amenities, and the positive feedback regarding the staff, particularly Zoe and Timmy, suggests a commitment to customer service for guests in these areas. The welcoming nature of some seasonal campers could also contribute to a positive community feel for those staying in the modern sites.
However, the experience with the primitive camping site appears to be less favorable, with concerns raised about pricing, proximity to desirable features like swimmable water, and noise levels from off-road vehicle activity. Local users considering the primitive camping option at Historic Cold Sulphur Springs Campground should be aware of this feedback and potentially inquire further about the specific characteristics of these sites, including their proximity to water sources, potential for noise disturbances, and what is included for the price.
For local users searching for "camping near me" who value modern amenities and helpful staff, the positive review suggests that Historic Cold Sulphur Springs Campground could be a suitable option, particularly if they are interested in sites with electric and water hookups and access to a bathhouse. The easy booking process mentioned in the negative review is also a point of convenience. However, it would be prudent to confirm the availability and condition of these modern sites and any associated costs when making a reservation.
Those considering primitive camping at this location should weigh the negative feedback regarding the perceived value and potential noise issues. It might be beneficial to contact the campground directly at the provided phone numbers, (804) 691-7597 or +1 804-691-7597, to seek more detailed information about the primitive camping areas, including their exact location relative to any water features, the likelihood of off-road vehicle activity, and the pricing structure. Asking for photos or a detailed description of the primitive sites could also help in setting realistic expectations.
Given the limited information available online, including the absence of details regarding the environment beyond the mention of modern and primitive sites, it is difficult to provide a comprehensive overview of the natural setting. The proximity to Goshen, Virginia, suggests a location within the scenic Shenandoah Valley region, known for its natural beauty and outdoor recreational opportunities. However, specific details about the campground's immediate surroundings, such as the presence of hiking trails, specific types of water features (beyond the unswimmable water mentioned by one reviewer), or the overall landscape, are not provided in the given reviews.
Similarly, information regarding specific services and features beyond electric and water hookups and a bathhouse for the modern sites is lacking. It is unknown whether the campground offers other amenities such as picnic tables, fire rings, laundry facilities, Wi-Fi access, or recreational areas. Local users interested in these aspects should inquire directly with the campground. Promotional information, such as seasonal discounts or special offers, is also not included in the provided reviews, so direct contact would be necessary to obtain such details.
In conclusion, Historic Cold Sulphur Springs Campground offers modern campsites with essential amenities and has received positive feedback regarding its helpful staff. However, the experience with primitive camping appears to be less satisfactory based on one review, citing issues with pricing, location relative to water, and noise. Local users searching for "camping near me" should carefully consider their camping preferences and the type of site they are interested in. Contacting the campground directly for more detailed information about the different camping options, the surrounding environment, available services and features, and any current promotions is highly recommended to ensure a well-informed decision.

Historic Cold Sulphur Springs Campground Reviews
Amazing modern camp site with access to electric, water and bathhouse. Zoe our host was very helpful and accommodating. She helped us pick the best site for us based on our needs. Her customer service skills made us feel more inclined to choose this camp site over others. Timmy was very helpful too. Met some seasonal campers who were super nice and extraordinarily helpful ! Thank you all !
Aug 03, 2021 · Saad HusainBooking process was very easy and staff was friendly. The PRIMITIVE camping site was WAYYYYYY overpriced for what it was. I expected it to be closer to water you can actually swim in and thought it was going to be worth the $60. Instead, it felt like I was on my uncle's property in SC. People were riding loud 4-wheelers all around us until like 10:30 pm. Would not camp here again.
Aug 22, 2023 · jenna dansonDo not plan on tent camping at this location. You will be charged RV rates for a site, which is totally ridiculous. We should have done more research on this location before we planned on heading there. It is actually well outside the small community of Goshen and down a long gravel/dirt unkempt road. Having arrived late in the day and set up already we were advised of the very high rate (for tent camping) and when questioned were told if we did not like it to pack up our .... and go somewhere else. Very nice. Yeah, quality people. The bathrooms were disgusting, possibly one of the worst camping experiences ever. I don't like giving negative reviews but this place fully deserves one.
Sep 10, 2022 · Richard LWe stayed for a night as we passed through. We had a 40 motorhome and the path was a bit tough to get to but we made it without issue. We found the site to be nice and relaxing. The short walk to the super springs was beautiful and the dogs enjoyed playing in the stream. Hopefully the springs are restored soon so that we can get in and soak for a bit. There are some full timers there and they are located at the top of the hill. I met some of them and they were all very nice. I had engine trouble and a few people jumped in and saved the day. I really can’t thank them enough and have never experienced such hospitality. Not sure why there aren’t more ratings on here.
May 17, 2021 · Matthew MathisHad a great time camping here. My girlfriend and I showed up super late on own road trip. The staff was super nice. Tommy came down and made sure we had all that we needed. They have wood for sale $5 with a big bundle of wood. A beautiful lake and wildlife.
