If you're searching for "camping near me" and seeking a tranquil and nature-immersed experience near Evanston, Wyoming, Carter Creek USAF Camp, located on an Unnamed Road in Evanston, WY 82930, might be the ideal destination. Based on glowing reviews from recent visitors, this campground offers a variety of accommodation options, including cozy cabins and spacious RV sites, set within a beautiful environment that encourages a digital detox. With features like a scenic hiking trail, potential for wildlife viewing, and recreational rentals, Carter Creek USAF Camp seems geared towards families, outdoor enthusiasts, and those looking to reconnect with nature. Let's delve into the environment, services, and features that make this campground a highly recommended getaway.
The location of Carter Creek USAF Camp near Evanston, Wyoming, suggests a setting within the vast and picturesque landscapes of the American West. While the specific details of the "Unnamed Road" are not provided, the reviews paint a picture of a "beautiful" and "peaceful" environment. One reviewer mentioned the beauty of the outdoors at night, hinting at clear, starlit skies often found in less populated areas. The presence of a "nice and peaceful" hiking trail further emphasizes the natural surroundings, offering opportunities for exploration and enjoying the local flora and fauna. The mention of nearby lakes also suggests potential for water-based activities, although the specifics of these lakes (accessibility, types of recreation allowed) would require further investigation. The overall environment appears to be one where visitors can escape the hustle and bustle of daily life and immerse themselves in the tranquility of nature.
Carter Creek USAF Camp offers a range of accommodation options to suit different preferences. According to one review, there are seven cabins and a few trailers available for rent, alongside some campsites for those bringing their own tents or smaller camping setups. The cabins are described as "cozy and warm," suggesting a comfortable and sheltered lodging option, particularly beneficial during cooler nights. One reviewer specifically detailed the large cabin (#7), which features a full-size loft bed, a bedroom with a full-size bed, and a bunk bed set, making it ideal for families or larger groups. The availability of "spacious and clean" RV sites caters to those traveling with their own recreational vehicles, providing a comfortable base for exploring the area.
A unique aspect of Carter Creek USAF Camp, explicitly mentioned in multiple reviews, is the near-complete absence of cell reception (specifically for Verizon and AT&T). This feature, while potentially inconvenient for some, is lauded by a reviewer as an opportunity to "completely unplug" and disconnect from the digital world. For those seeking a true escape from constant connectivity, this could be a significant advantage, allowing for a more immersive and present experience in nature. However, it's crucial for potential visitors to be aware of this limitation, especially in terms of emergency communication.
Beyond accommodation and the natural environment, Carter Creek USAF Camp offers several features and services aimed at enhancing the guest experience. The presence of a "lovely" and "helpful" host is consistently highlighted in the reviews. This personal touch can significantly contribute to a positive stay, with the host being available to assist guests and provide information about the area. The availability of ATV (four-wheeler) and fat tire bike rentals directly at the campground adds a recreational dimension, allowing guests to explore the surrounding terrain in an adventurous way. It's important to note that ATVs are not permitted within the campsite itself, with signs indicating designated parking areas, ensuring the safety and peace of other campers.
One practical detail mentioned in a review concerns the availability of running water, which is typically available until the last four weeks the camp is open. This suggests that the campground may have a seasonal operating period, and water services might be limited towards the end of that season. Potential visitors should inquire about the operating dates and the availability of water and other utilities, especially if planning a stay during the shoulder seasons.
The campground is also described as "fun for kids and dogs," indicating a family-friendly and pet-friendly environment. This is a significant draw for those traveling with children or furry companions, suggesting that the campground likely has space for kids to play and is welcoming to well-behaved pets. However, specific rules regarding pets (e.g., leash requirements, allowed areas) should be confirmed with the management.
While the provided information does not include specific promotional details, the overwhelmingly positive reviews and the mention of repeat visits ("I want to make this an annual thing," "I'm going again, no doubt about it") serve as strong endorsements. The fact that visitors are eager to return suggests a high level of satisfaction with the overall experience and value offered at Carter Creek USAF Camp. To learn about any potential discounts for longer stays, seasonal promotions, or other special offers, interested individuals should contact the campground directly via phone.

Sep 28, 2023 · D. Kēhau PauloCarter Creek is awesome. There are 7 cabins and a few trailers ready for rent. There's are a few camp spots for renting it too. There is no cell reception (Verizon or AT&T) while I was up there. It is a fun place for kids and dogs. The large cabin (#7) had a full size loft bed and a bed room with a full size bed and a bunk bed set. There is running water until the last 4 weeks Carter Creek is open. There are signs that indicate where to park ATV's, as they aren't permitted in the camp site. This place is quiet, and beautiful. They have 4 ATV's (4 wheelers) and fat tire bikes for rent. There are lakes nearby too.I'm going again, no doubt about it. Great place, great experience.
Sep 10, 2022 · Aaron FagerCamp clean and well maintained.Host hard working, helpful and friendly.Camp layout leaves alot to be desired... 4 miles off the highway up a rough and rocky dirt road a d the campers were squished together in a parking lot. You have the whole mountain, space the transient campers out in the forest so you feel like you are camping in the wilderness, not at Walmart!
Sep 10, 2020 · Gene MaguireDog friendly campground, decent bathrooms but no private fires only a community fire pit, but you can make new friends!
Sep 06, 2024 · Stacy MillsCarter Creek blew away our expectations! The host, Terry, makes sure that it is clean and well managed. Thoroughly enjoyed out time there!
