Bear River Campground Introduce
If you're searching for "camping near me" and seeking a tranquil and potentially secluded camping experience near Bear River, Wyoming, Bear River Campground, located at 80122 UT-150 Scenic, Bear River, WY 82930 (situated along Utah Scenic Byway 150), might be an undiscovered gem worth considering. Based on the enthusiastic reviews from recent visitors, this small campground by the Bear River offers the allure of riverfront campsites, the possibility of solitude, clean basic facilities, and the chance to observe local wildlife. While it might require a slight detour for some travelers, the rewards seem to be a peaceful and memorable camping experience. Let's delve into the environment, services, and features that make Bear River Campground a potential haven for nature lovers.
The location of Bear River Campground along Utah Scenic Byway 150, near Bear River, Wyoming, immediately suggests a setting amidst scenic beauty. Scenic Byway 150 is renowned for its breathtaking landscapes, winding through mountains, forests, and alongside pristine rivers. The fact that the campground is situated directly by the Bear River is a significant draw, as highlighted by a reviewer who noted that "many of the sites literally back up to the river." This proximity offers campers the soothing sounds of flowing water, potential for fishing (though not explicitly mentioned), and the opportunity to enjoy the riverine environment. The small size of the campground, as mentioned by one visitor, likely contributes to a more intimate and less crowded camping experience, enhancing the feeling of being close to nature.
One of the standout features of Bear River Campground, according to a reviewer, is the potential for secluded campsites. They specifically mentioned staying at site #1, which was "nicely secluded from the other sites," offering a greater sense of privacy and immersion in the natural surroundings. For campers who value solitude and a more wilderness-like experience, the possibility of securing a secluded site at Bear River Campground could be a major advantage. This contrasts with larger, more developed campgrounds where sites are often in close proximity to one another.
Despite its seemingly remote and natural setting, Bear River Campground provides essential facilities for basic comfort. One reviewer specifically noted the presence of "two box toilets in the campground, very clean." Clean and well-maintained restroom facilities are a fundamental requirement for any campground, and the positive feedback on this aspect suggests that the management prioritizes hygiene. While details about other amenities like water sources or trash disposal are not explicitly mentioned, the presence of clean toilets indicates a level of basic infrastructure.
The reviews also offer insights into the wildlife that visitors might encounter in the area. While there are "postings about bears," one camper reported seeing only a couple of deer up the road and a mouse around their campsite. This suggests that while precautions regarding bears should be taken (such as proper food storage), large wildlife sightings might not be a common occurrence within the immediate campground. The presence of deer indicates a natural environment where wildlife does roam, adding to the overall camping experience for nature enthusiasts.
One practical piece of information for travelers is the campground's location relative to major routes. A reviewer noted that it is "a bit of a drive south (~30 mi) if you are coming from the I-80 via Evanston WY." This suggests that while the campground might be slightly off the main interstate, the scenic drive along Utah Scenic Byway 150 could be well worth the detour for the quality of the camping experience offered. It's advisable for potential visitors to consult a map and plan their route accordingly, taking into account the extra travel time.
The overall sentiment from the reviews is overwhelmingly positive. One camper described Bear River Campground as the "best campsite surprise of my trip" and another declared it the "best campsite I've ever been to!" Such strong endorsements highlight the exceptional quality of the camping experience offered. The intention of one reviewer to keep this place in mind as a "hidden gem" for future travels further underscores its appeal as a less crowded and highly enjoyable camping destination.
One minor concern raised by a reviewer is related to the water well, with the water sometimes appearing "rusty looking." While this might be a temporary issue or a characteristic of the local water source, potential visitors might want to inquire about the water quality with the campground management and consider bringing their own drinking water if they have concerns.
Given the limited information, specific services and features beyond the riverfront campsites, clean toilets, and the potential for wildlife viewing are not detailed in the reviews. It is reasonable to assume that basic camping amenities such as fire rings and picnic tables are provided at each site, but this is not explicitly stated. To obtain a comprehensive list of all available amenities, including water sources, trash disposal, and any specific regulations, prospective visitors should contact the campground directly.
As the provided information does not include any promotional details, such as discounts for longer stays or seasonal offers, individuals interested in camping at Bear River Campground should contact the management directly to inquire about any such promotions. The strong positive reviews suggest that the intrinsic value of the location and the camping experience might be the primary draw.
To make the most informed decision about camping at Bear River Campground, individuals searching for "camping near me" should consider the following:
- Contact the campground directly (using the same phone number as East Fork Bear River Campground: (385) 273-1100 or +1 385-273-1100) to inquire about site availability and reservation procedures.
- Ask about the specific amenities offered at each campsite, such as fire rings and picnic tables.
- Inquire about the water situation, particularly the "rusty looking" water from the well, and whether potable water is readily available.
- Seek clarification on trash disposal procedures and any other campground rules or regulations.
- Confirm the location of the clean box toilets and their accessibility from different campsites.
- Ask for advice on bear safety and food storage in the area.
- Inquire about the proximity to any hiking trails or other recreational activities beyond the river.
- Clarify the campground's pet policy, if applicable.
- Inquire about any potential discounts for longer stays or if there are any fees beyond the nightly camping rate.
In conclusion, Bear River Campground near Bear River, Wyoming, appears to be a hidden gem for those seeking a small, scenic campground with the allure of riverfront campsites and potential for seclusion. The clean facilities and the chance to observe wildlife add to its appeal. While it might require a slight detour, the overwhelmingly positive reviews suggest that the peaceful and natural experience offered at Bear River Campground makes it a top contender for anyone searching for a memorable "camping near me" adventure along the beautiful Utah Scenic Byway 150.

Bear River Campground Reviews
Best campsite surprise of my trip. Small campground by the Bear River. I was in site 1, nicely secluded from the other sites. A bit of a drive south (~30 mi) if you are coming from the I-80 via Evanston WY.Many of the sites literally back up to the river. I was there mid-week near the end of July and was the only site taken, I found it hard to believe. There are postings about bears, but the only wildlife we saw were a couple of deer up the road and a mouse hanging around for crumbs. Two box toilets in the campground, very clean. I'll keep this place in mind as a hidden gem for my next drive through the area.
Aug 01, 2021 · Jack GlazkoBest campsite I've ever been to! Can't wait to go again! Only thing is with the water well, the water comes out rusty looking.
Jul 01, 2024 · Nichole CaseOnly 4 sites on this campground and the road and sites aren't big enough to take a trailer down. This means that you're unlikely to find people running generators. This site is also only $18 a night, which is cheaper than several of the other campsites around. There is a restroom with two toilets, and a hand-pump water well next to site 4.The Bear River is right next to each site and nice to play in since its very shallow. You might find it noisy at night, but I enjoyed it. I also heard what sounded like an elk calling out during portions of the night.
Sep 07, 2020 · Tony SaxThey keep the camp grounds really nice. We spent the day just enjoying everything around the campsite. The only problem is the bathrooms do smell pretty bad air fresheners would help out so much. The price to stay is 18 dollars a night which is kind of high. I think 10 would be a better amount.
Jun 11, 2020 · Allena MunozBeautiful, quiet place to camp. Would've given 5 stars on that alone. Their bathrooms need some serious attention and their access to well water came out tinted yellow.
