Cascade Creek Campground Introduce
For local adventurers seeking "camping near me" in the heart of Montana, Cascade Creek Campground presents a straightforward and budget-friendly option. Located on MT-135 in Plains, MT 59859, USA, this basic forest service campground provides a convenient basecamp for exploring the surrounding natural beauty. While it offers fundamental amenities, its prime location near a waterfall trail and a river with a beach makes it an appealing choice for those who prioritize outdoor activities and a simple camping experience.
Cascade Creek Campground's location on MT-135 offers relatively easy access, making it a potentially convenient "camping near me" destination for residents of Plains and nearby areas. Being situated along a highway does come with a caveat, as noted by a visitor: daytime traffic can be quite loud. However, the campground reportedly becomes quiet at night, allowing for peaceful sleep under the Montana stars. Its accessibility makes it a viable option for weekend getaways or as a stopover for those traveling through the region.
The environment surrounding Cascade Creek Campground is characterized by the rugged beauty of Montana. One of its notable features is a trailhead leading to the top of a small waterfall, offering a readily accessible hiking opportunity for campers. This provides a chance to experience the sights and sounds of a cascading waterfall without venturing far from your campsite. Additionally, across the highway from the campground lies a river with a beach area. This offers opportunities for water-based activities such as swimming, wading, or simply relaxing by the riverbank. The presence of both a waterfall and river access adds to the natural appeal of this campground.
In terms of services, Cascade Creek Campground provides basic forest service amenities. This includes concrete non-flushing restrooms, which are typical for this type of campground. Water is available via a hand-operated water pump, so campers should be prepared to use this method for their water needs. It's important to understand that this campground does not offer modern conveniences such as electrical hookups, running water at individual sites, or garbage disposal services. Campers will need to be self-sufficient in these aspects, bringing their own power sources if needed and packing out all of their trash.
The features of Cascade Creek Campground cater to those who appreciate a more rustic and nature-focused camping experience. The proximity to the waterfall trail is a significant draw for hikers and nature lovers. The easy access to the river and its beach provides opportunities for recreation and relaxation. For those seeking a budget-friendly "camping near me" option, the reported cost of $10 per night makes Cascade Creek Campground an attractive choice. Furthermore, one reviewer mentioned the availability of "very straight up mountain goat hiking" in the vicinity, suggesting more challenging trails may be accessible for experienced hikers.
It is important to note a review that mentioned a bear being present in the campground during a visit. This highlights the fact that Cascade Creek Campground is located in bear country, and campers should take appropriate precautions. This includes storing food properly in bear-resistant containers or using established methods for hanging food away from campsites. Familiarizing yourself with bear safety guidelines is crucial for a safe and responsible camping experience in this area.
While specific promotional offers are not mentioned in the provided information, the inherent value of Cascade Creek Campground lies in its affordability and access to natural attractions. For local users searching for "camping near me" on a budget who are interested in hiking to a waterfall and enjoying river access, this campground provides a practical option. The basic amenities keep costs down, making it accessible to a wider range of campers.
Considering the reviews, it's evident that Cascade Creek Campground offers a no-frills camping experience focused on nature and outdoor activities. The potential for daytime noise from the highway is a factor to consider for those seeking absolute tranquility during the day. However, the quiet nights and the proximity to hiking and water recreation make it a worthwhile option for those who prioritize these aspects. The mention of challenging hiking nearby suggests that the area caters to various levels of outdoor enthusiasts.
To fully enjoy your stay at Cascade Creek Campground, it is recommended to bring your own water containers, cooking equipment, and all necessary camping supplies. Be prepared for non-flushing toilets and the need to pack out all garbage. If you plan on hiking, wear appropriate footwear and carry essentials like water and snacks. Given the presence of wildlife, especially bears, ensure you understand and practice proper food storage techniques. A basic first-aid kit is also always a good addition to your camping gear.
In conclusion, for local users looking for "camping near me" in Montana that offers a budget-friendly base for outdoor exploration, Cascade Creek Campground is a viable choice. Its key features include a trailhead to a small waterfall, river access with a beach, and proximity to potentially challenging hiking trails. While the amenities are basic and daytime highway noise may be a consideration, the natural attractions and affordability make it an appealing option for those who prioritize experiencing the outdoors. Remember to be prepared for a rustic camping experience and to take necessary precautions regarding wildlife.

Cascade Creek Campground Reviews
Basic forest service campground. Concrete no flushing restroom. Hand operated water pump. Trailhead to top of small waterfall. River across highway with beach. Bear was in the campground during visit.
Jul 08, 2020 · MykeDay time traffic was really loud but quiet at night for sleeping , 10 bucks a night and if you are up for it some very straight up mountain 🐐 hiking or you can hike the river
Sep 12, 2019 · Christopher LaierGreat little campground, I was a good place to sleep for the night.
Jul 31, 2023 · Micah StromThe campground has some nice spots, but they are on the small side. You are not very far from the road and might want to bring ear plugs or white noise since the train seems to go by about every 2 hours.
Sep 07, 2016 · Wandervans CampervansSmall little site between the mountains and 135, all the sites are close enough to see ever vehicle that travels down 135. It has two trails people commonly hike, one to cascade falls and one toward cascade creek, my family and I hiked about halfway to Cascade Falls but had to turn back due to a storm. For the other quality of camp sites within a 2 hour radius of this site I'd say its comparably a 2/1 star. If you drive out this way there is another campsite about 2 miles West on the river side of 135 that is a lot nicer. Also the Clark Fork is inaccessible from Cascade Creek campground, and the bank has a ton of driftwood infested with spiders, hence dubbed Spider Land... The trails report their open to bikes and are a fairly forgiving grade so I wish I would have brought my mountain bike to check out the area. One other thing with this campground vs the one down the road is due to the orientation of the mountains with this site, you're out of the sun fairly early in the day (which was something I didn't prefer).
