Sloway Campground Introduce
For local users in the St. Regis, Montana area, and those searching within the "camping near me" category, Sloway Campground offers a convenient and easily accessible option, particularly for overnight stays while traveling. Situated just off Interstate 90 and along the shores of the Clark Fork River, this campground provides a practical alternative to roadside stops, with basic amenities and relatively easy access for various types of camping setups. While it may fill up quickly during the summer months, especially given its proximity to the freeway, it serves as a suitable place to take a break from driving and enjoy a night in a natural setting.
Location and Environment:
Sloway Campground is located near St. Regis, Montana, with "decent access off the freeway" (I-90). Its prime location just off a major interstate makes it a convenient stop for travelers passing through the region. The campground's setting along the shores of the Clark Fork River is a significant environmental feature. The Clark Fork River is a major river in western Montana, known for its scenic beauty and recreational opportunities. Camping alongside it offers the potential for enjoying the river's presence, including the possibility of hand-launching small boats, as mentioned in one review. The riverbank might also provide areas for relaxation and cooling off, as one visitor described walking across a gravel bar to a more private spot along the shore.
While the convenience of being near the freeway is a major advantage for accessibility, it also comes with the noted drawback of noise from passing trains and cars. Potential visitors should be aware that a completely tranquil, noise-free environment might not be expected here. However, the reviewers suggest that this noise level is tolerable, especially for a short overnight stay.
The campground itself is described as having wide and easy-to-access sites, with some being large pull-through sites capable of accommodating bigger RVs, as exemplified by site #5. This ease of access and the availability of larger sites make it suitable for a variety of camping units, from tents to larger recreational vehicles. The presence of a gravel bar area leading to a more private section of the riverbank indicates some natural variation in the terrain and opportunities to find quieter spots away from the main campground area.
The size of the campground is mentioned as medium, with a total of 27 sites. This suggests a balance between being large enough to potentially find a spot (though it fills up fast in summer) and small enough to maintain a more intimate camping feel compared to very large commercial campgrounds.
Services and Amenities:
Based on the customer reviews, the amenities at Sloway Campground are basic but functional, catering primarily to those needing a comfortable overnight stop:
- Campsites: The campground offers 27 sites, including some large pull-through sites suitable for RVs. Each site is equipped with a picnic table and a fire ring, providing essential facilities for outdoor dining and campfires (subject to local regulations).
- Water: Drinking water is available at a tap within the campground. Campers should note that there are no electric hookups at the sites.
- Restrooms: The campground provides well-cleaned pit toilets. This is a basic but necessary amenity for a more rustic camping experience. There are no showers available at this location.
- Boat Launch: There is an area suitable for hand-launching small boats into the Clark Fork River, which could be of interest to those traveling with canoes, kayaks, or other small watercraft.
- No Hookups: It is explicitly stated that there are no hookups for electricity, water, or sewer at the campsites. This means that RVers planning to stay here will need to be self-contained in terms of power and waste management.
- No Dump Station: The campground does not have a dump station for RV black and gray water tanks. Travelers will need to plan for waste disposal at another location.
- No Showers: As mentioned above, shower facilities are not available at Sloway Campground.
The absence of hookups and showers indicates that this campground is geared towards a more traditional camping experience or a convenient overnight stay rather than an extended stay requiring full amenities.
Features and Highlights:
The key features and highlights of Sloway Campground include:
- Convenient Location off I-90: Its easy access from the interstate makes it an ideal stopping point for travelers.
- Riverside Camping on the Clark Fork River: The campground's setting along the river offers scenic views and potential for water-based activities like small boating and cooling off in the water.
- Wide and Easy-to-Access Sites: The spacious campsites, including pull-through options for larger RVs, provide comfort and convenience for setting up camp.
- Basic Amenities Provided: The availability of drinking water, pit toilets, picnic tables, and fire rings covers the essential needs for a short stay.
- Suitability for Overnight Stops: Several reviews highlight its utility as a better alternative to roadside stops for those en route to longer destinations.
Potential drawbacks to consider include the noise from the nearby freeway and trains, as well as the lack of hookups, showers, and a dump station, which might make it less suitable for extended stays or those requiring more comprehensive amenities.
For local users looking for "camping near me" for a quick overnight getaway or a convenient base for exploring the St. Regis area without needing extensive amenities, Sloway Campground presents a viable option. Its proximity to the river and the ease of access are significant advantages.
Promotional Information:
The provided information does not include any specific promotional offers, discounts, or special rates for Sloway Campground. Given that it appears to be a more basic, possibly publicly managed campground, it might not have elaborate promotional campaigns. Local users interested in fees, availability, and any specific regulations should contact the campground directly using the phone number: (406) 822-4233 or mobile phone: +1 406-822-4233. It's also worth noting the reviewer's comment about another larger campground located east on I-90. Local users might want to inquire about the name and location of this alternative if Sloway Campground is full, especially during peak summer season.
In conclusion, Sloway Campground near St. Regis, Montana, offers a conveniently located, medium-sized campground along the Clark Fork River, ideal for overnight stops due to its easy access off I-90 and wide, accessible sites. While it provides basic amenities such as water and pit toilets, the lack of hookups, showers, and a dump station means it is best suited for short stays or self-contained camping units. Local users seeking a practical and scenic spot for a night or two will find Sloway Campground a decent option, keeping in mind the potential for noise from the nearby interstate and the need to be prepared for no hookup camping.

Sloway Campground Reviews
Awesome campground with decent access off the freeway. It fills up fast during the summer, but there is a larger one east on I-90. You can hear trains and cars, but the sites are wide and easy to access. Water is at the tap with no electric and well cleaned pit toilets.
Aug 26, 2022 · Jim TThis campground sits just off I 90 along the shores of the Clark River. It is s a pretty good single night campground when you are headed somewhere and just need a quick pull off stop - Better than a Walmart! We were en-route to a longer trip and used it for one night for exactly that purpose. It is a medium size campground with 27 sites. Some are large pull through sites that would accommodate bigger RVs like the site we chose, site #5. Each Site had a picnic table and fire ring. There are pit toilets and drinking water available. There are no hookups, no showers, no dump station. There is an area to hand launch small boats. We walked across the gravel bar area to the east and were able to sit in a more private area along the river shore. A nice spot to take a break from driving and cool off in the water. I wouldn't stay here for an extended vacation, but it served our purpose well.
Aug 11, 2017 · Dawn GWas beautiful along the Clark river, though train tracks were right across the river. Your in bear country so be sure to put your food and pets up. Would definitely recommend. Don't buy wood in st Regis, the camp host keeps wood for your use!
Sep 20, 2024 · John FigueroaVery nice camping ground. Arrived at 11pm. Settled in a FCFS site
Jun 25, 2023 · sherry zhuA great campground along I90. Easy in and out for the biggest RVs. There is some noise from the interstate unless you find a spot near the Clark Fork
