Looking for "camping near me" in the beautiful Cherokee, North Carolina area? Consider Cherokee Campground & Craig's Cabins, located at 91 Cherokee Campground Rd, Cherokee, NC 28719, USA. This family-owned campground offers a unique experience with both campsites and super cute cabins, nestled alongside a beautiful creek and within walking distance of the river and the casino. Based on customer reviews, it provides a peaceful setting with genuine, nice staff and a welcoming atmosphere. However, potential visitors with larger RVs should be aware of potential challenges with site maneuverability.
Cherokee Campground & Craig's Cabins seems to pride itself on its personalized service and natural beauty, making it an appealing option for local users seeking a mountain getaway with various accommodation choices. Let's delve into the environment, services, features, and some promotional aspects based on the provided feedback.
Environment and Ambiance:
The campground boasts a "beautiful creek" running through it, which is a significant natural attraction. One reviewer mentioned "great fishing" in the creek, suggesting it's a healthy and accessible waterway. The presence of "tons of little hide away places to read, or just sit" indicates a serene and contemplative environment where guests can find their own quiet corner to relax and enjoy nature. Mature trees, as mentioned by another reviewer, likely provide ample shade, contributing to a quiet and peaceful setting. The proximity to the river, within walking distance, offers additional opportunities for recreation or simply enjoying the riverside scenery. The overall ambiance is described as "very peaceful" and a "quiet setting," making it ideal for those looking to escape the hustle and bustle.
However, one reviewer pointed out that the campground is older, and while this often contributes to the charm of mature trees and established landscapes, it might also imply certain limitations in terms of site layout and maneuverability for very large RVs.
Services and Amenities:
Based on the customer reviews, Cherokee Campground & Craig's Cabins offers several notable services and amenities:
- Accommodating Staff: The family-owned nature of the campground seems to translate to exceptional customer service. One guest who needed a month-long stay with multiple vehicles reported that the staff "went above and beyond to accommodate us." The staff are described as "super genuine, nice people."
- Escort to Site: Although not explicitly mentioned, the level of care suggests they likely assist guests in settling in.
- Beautiful Creek with Fishing: The creek is a highlight, offering scenic views and opportunities for fishing.
- Cute Cabins: For those not traveling in RVs or tents, the availability of "super cute" cabins provides a comfortable alternative.
- Peaceful Atmosphere: The small size of the campsite contributes to a very peaceful environment.
- Pet-Friendly (with caveats): While one reviewer walked their dogs, another reported a negative encounter with roaming campground dogs being aggressive towards their leashed pets. This suggests that while pets might be allowed, there could be issues with unsupervised animals on the property. Potential guests with pets should inquire about the campground's pet policies and be aware of this reported incident.
- Cheapest Ice Around: A practical amenity appreciated by campers.
- Walking Distance to River and Casino: The convenient location offers easy access to both natural attractions (the river) and entertainment options (the casino).
- Lowest Rates: One reviewer claimed the rates were the "absolute lowest," suggesting affordability.
The reviews do not provide information about bathhouse facilities, hookups, or other common campground amenities. One reviewer who had a larger rig did not use the bathhouse, so its condition remains unknown based on this information.
Features and Unique Aspects:
Cherokee Campground & Craig's Cabins has several unique features that make it appealing for a "camping near me" experience:
- Family-Owned and Operated: This often leads to a more personal and caring approach to hospitality.
- Creek-side and River-adjacent Location: The presence of a beautiful creek within the campground and the river being within walking distance offers natural beauty and recreational opportunities.
- Variety of Accommodation: Offering both campsites and cabins caters to different preferences.
- Affordability: The mention of the "absolute lowest rates" makes it an attractive option for budget-conscious travelers.
- Proximity to Local Attractions: Easy access to both nature (river) and entertainment (casino) provides a balanced experience.
However, potential guests with larger RVs need to be aware of the tight maneuvering conditions reported within the campground.

Cherokee Campground & Craig's Cabins Reviews
We called a week before for a month stay, with lots of vehicles, they went above and beyond to accommodate us. Family owned, beautiful creek, great fishing, tons of little hide away places to read, or just sit. The cabins are super cute. This is a small campsite, very peaceful. All staff are super genuine, nice people. A lovely cat, that will come running to you, IF you have treats. The cheapest ice around. The river is within walking distance, as is the casino. The ABSOLUTE lowest rates, you won't find a better campsite. Thank you Barry and everyone that made this a ho.e away from home.
Aug 07, 2023 · Sandy ThomasIf you have a larger rig, this campground will be tight for you. We have a 41ft 5th wheel and it was tight in our spot which was one of the larger spots. Leaving is a little bit of a challenge for bigger rigs. I saw some of the larger rigs turning around and going in the wrong direction to go out so they didn't have to do the very tight turn to get out (it's a 1 way loop). While walking my leashed small and friendly dogs, 2 of the campground dogs who belong to a worker and were allowed to roam charged them and were extremely aggressive towards them. I was very concerned they were going to hurt my dogs. No one from the campground came out to deal with them and I was in front of the office and the house a manager/worker lives in. After a while they stopped and just walked off. If you have a spot on the creek/river, it's a pretty view. Campground is older and the trees are mature. It's a quiet setting. We did not use the bathhouse so I don't know the condition of it.
Nov 23, 2023 · L JohnsonThis is the best campground I have been at! My husband has been coming here since he was a little boy. Barry and Candace treat everyone like family! It’s peaceful and relaxing. They have bunkhouses, and cabins plus tent sites and RV sites. So if you want a perfect place to relax and enjoy this is the place you need to be!
Sep 03, 2023 · Denise ThigpenGreat location. Stayed in a cabin and it had a great view of the river. The issue was when we went to lay our heads down the first night and realized there was unfortunately a bed bug infestation in the cabin. Owner was nice enough to refund money spent for the cabin but not nice enough to reimburse for money spent on new suitcases and money spent at the laundromat.
Aug 06, 2023 · Julia MortonA small Jewel that has been my best kept secret of a vacation/camping spot for many years... but... I just couldn't keep myself from telling/talking about it to family, friends, coworkers & anyone having a vacation conversation with! The 1st two generation owners have been super friendly, accommodating & genuine - excited to get to know the 3rd!
