The environment surrounding Cherry Glen Campground in Polk City, Iowa, appears to be quite attractive, particularly for those who enjoy lake access and outdoor recreation. One review mentions that the campground is within walking distance to a lake and is right on a bike path, suggesting a setting that encourages activities like swimming, fishing, cycling, and leisurely lakeside walks. Polk City is situated near Saylorville Lake, a large reservoir known for its recreational opportunities. Therefore, it's highly likely that Cherry Glen Campground benefits from this proximity, offering campers easy access to the lake's shores and potentially scenic views. The presence of playgrounds also indicates a family-friendly environment where children can enjoy outdoor play.
In terms of services, Cherry Glen Campground offers electric-only hookups at its campsites. This is an important detail highlighted by a reviewer, so local campers with RVs or those who rely on electricity for their camping setup should take note. While there are no water or sewer hookups directly at the individual sites upstairs (presumably meaning at the camping spots themselves), the campground does provide dump stations and water hydrants strategically placed around the property. This allows campers to manage their water and waste needs conveniently within the campground. According to a review, the restrooms and shower facilities are kept "spotless" and "immaculate" by the hosts, which speaks highly of the campground's maintenance and commitment to providing clean amenities for their guests. The presence of new water and dump stations with nice wide aisles further suggests ongoing improvements and attention to camper convenience.
The features of Cherry Glen Campground are noteworthy for a variety of campers. The availability of "nice level spots" is a significant advantage for setting up tents or parking RVs. The presence of "plenty of playgrounds for the kids" makes it an appealing destination for families with young children. The direct access to a bike path is a fantastic feature for cycling enthusiasts, allowing for scenic rides in the area. Perhaps one of the most significant features is the walking distance to the lake, opening up opportunities for water-based activities and enjoying the lake scenery. The combination of these features – level sites, playgrounds, lake access, and bike path connectivity – makes Cherry Glen a well-rounded campground for various interests within the "camping near me" category.
Promotional information for Cherry Glen Campground, targeting local users, could emphasize its prime location and well-maintained facilities. Phrases like "Your perfect family camping destination near Saylorville Lake," "Enjoy biking and lake access with clean facilities," or "Electric-only camping with easy water and dump station access" would be relevant. Highlighting the cleanliness of the restrooms and showers, as praised by a reviewer, could be a strong selling point: "Experience camping with immaculate restrooms and showers!" For families, the playgrounds would be a key feature to promote. For outdoor enthusiasts, the proximity to the lake and the bike path would be highlighted. A potential promotional message could be: "Discover Cherry Glen Campground in Polk City: Electric sites, spotless facilities, playgrounds, lake access, and right on the bike path! Call (515) 964-8792 to book your spot." It's important for local users to be aware of the electric-only nature of the sites upstairs, so promotional material might include a friendly reminder to "be prepared for electric-only sites with convenient water and dump stations."
For local campers searching for "camping near me" that offers a blend of recreational opportunities and well-kept amenities, Cherry Glen Campground appears to be a strong contender. The positive feedback regarding the cleanliness and the convenient access to both natural attractions (the lake) and recreational infrastructure (bike path, playgrounds) suggests a comfortable and enjoyable camping experience. The electric-only sites might be particularly appealing to those with RVs or specific power needs, while the availability of dump stations and water hydrants ensures that even those without full hookups can manage their stay effectively.
Local users in Polk City and surrounding areas would appreciate the short travel time to Cherry Glen Campground, making it ideal for weekend getaways or even longer stays. The combination of natural beauty and well-maintained facilities offers a balanced camping experience. Families with children will find the playgrounds a significant plus, while those who enjoy cycling or spending time by the water will find the lake and bike path access highly appealing. The positive review about the hosts and the cleanliness further adds to the campground's reputation as a welcoming and well-cared-for destination.
When planning a visit to Cherry Glen Campground, local campers should remember that the individual sites are electric-only. Therefore, they should come prepared for their water and sewer needs by utilizing the provided water hydrants and dump stations. Cherry Glen Campground Reviews
Great place! REMEMBER these sites are electric only. There are no water or sewer hook upstairs. They have dump stations and water hydrants are place around the property. Just be prepared.
Apr 24, 2025 · Dave ReynoldsLove the campgrounds. The hosts keep the restrooms and shower facilities spotless. That's not an exaggeration. Immaculate. Nice level spots. Plenty of playgrounds for the kids. Walking distances to the lake. Right on the bike path. New water and dump stations with nice wide aisles.
Oct 04, 2024 · David LandgrenIn a very nice area, easy to get to, trying to find your spot is a bit of a maze, but very clean. Most everything is very close within 15 mins at max. The sites were nice a bit steep so you’ll need your extra blocks. Bathrooms and showers were close and clean. The trails around were paved and easy to navigate and well maintained. Great for riding bikes or scooters!
Jul 21, 2024 · Olivia RohlfingThe road system in the park can be hard to navigate, but after the first day, it's no big deal. Most sites look level, all are gravel. Weekends tend to book up fast! Rates are VERY reasonable at only $24/night. Electric only sites, but there is a dump and filling station available.
Sep 20, 2024 · Conor TreacyMy only ding is I came here to ride the Neal Smith Trail and it is closed for resurfacing. I wish it could have been posted on the recreation.gov reservation website.
