Situated within a state park environment, it aims to provide a serene escape with access to the scenic Clayton Lake and its surrounding natural beauty.
The environment surrounding Clayton Lake Campground is primarily defined by the presence of the picturesque Clayton Lake. This likely means campers can expect waterfront or near-waterfront campsites, offering easy access for fishing, boating, and enjoying the tranquil lake views. The landscape of southeastern Oklahoma is characterized by rolling hills, forests, and diverse flora and fauna, suggesting that the campground is likely nestled within a natural setting with opportunities for wildlife observation and enjoying the outdoors. The reviews indicate a peaceful atmosphere aligned with nature, which would appeal to those seeking a relaxing escape. Imagine waking up to the gentle sounds of the lake, enjoying a morning coffee with a view of the water, and spending your day engaging in lakeside activities. The specific vegetation and terrain will contribute to the overall ambiance, potentially offering shaded campsites and areas for exploration around the lake. Whether you are an avid angler, enjoy paddling on calm waters, or simply appreciate the beauty of a lakeside setting, Clayton Lake Campground's environment offers a natural retreat.
As a state park campground, Clayton Lake Campground likely provides a range of services to accommodate both tent and RV campers. Based on general expectations for state park campgrounds and the limited information from the reviews, potential services may include:
- Tent campsites: Designated areas for tent camping, potentially with varying levels of shade and proximity to the lake.
- RV campsites: Sites equipped with varying levels of hookups, potentially including water and electricity. The positive review mentions "RV camping with levels," suggesting that some sites are designed to accommodate and level RVs. It's important to note that full hookups (including sewer) may or may not be available.
- Restroom facilities: Public restrooms are expected, although one review raises concerns about their cleanliness and state of repair.
- Shower facilities: Showers are likely available, but the negative review indicates potential issues with functionality and payment systems.
- Water access: Access to potable water sources within the campground is expected.
- Boat ramp or launch area: Given its lakeside location, a boat ramp or launch area is highly probable for those wishing to take boats onto Clayton Lake.
- Fishing access: Opportunities for fishing from the shore or designated fishing piers are likely a key feature.
- Picnic areas: Designated picnic areas with tables may be available for day use or for campers to enjoy outdoor meals.
- Fire rings or grills: Individual campsites may be equipped with fire rings for campfires and cooking, or communal fire areas might be available.
- Trash disposal: Dumpsters or trash receptacles should be provided throughout the campground.
- Campground staff: While the positive review mentions helpful staff reachable by phone after hours, the level of on-site staffing during all hours is unclear.
- Parking: Parking areas will be available for campers' vehicles near their campsites.
It is crucial to consider the negative review which points out potential issues with the maintenance and cleanliness of facilities, as well as problems with the shower payment system. While these are individual experiences, they highlight the importance of checking recent reviews and official park information for the most up-to-date conditions.
Clayton Lake Campground's features likely revolve around its access to Clayton Lake and the natural environment of the state park:
- Lake access: The primary feature is direct or very close access to Clayton Lake, providing opportunities for boating, fishing, swimming (if designated areas exist), and enjoying the waterfront scenery.
- Tent and RV camping options: The campground accommodates both tent and RV campers, making it versatile for different types of outdoor enthusiasts.
- Fishing opportunities: Clayton Lake is likely a key attraction for anglers, offering the chance to catch local fish species.
- Boating and water activities: The presence of a boat ramp suggests opportunities for various watercraft, from motorboats to kayaks and canoes.
- Natural surroundings: Being located within a state park, campers can likely enjoy the natural beauty of the area, including potential hiking trails, wildlife viewing, and scenic views.
- Peaceful atmosphere: As noted in one review, the environment can be peacefully aligned with nature, offering a relaxing escape.
- Accessibility for off-road travel (potentially): The positive review mentions towing a Urel motorcycle for off-road travel, suggesting that the area might offer opportunities for such activities, although this may be outside the immediate campground.
However, it is important to balance these potential features with the concerns raised in the negative review regarding the condition of the facilities.

Clayton Lake Campground Reviews
I arrived the first time after hours. The staff explained the relaxed hours. They are only a call away. Everything is so peacefully aligned with nature. I would recommend tent camping and RV camping with levels. We towed a Urel motorcycle for off road travel.
Oct 05, 2023 · AMYThis is a nice lake but the facilities are often in disrepair and filthy with bugs. The showers often steal your money and leave you standing there naked with no shower after putting coins in. Very frustrating and would expect more out of a State Park if it is receiving tax payer monies.
Aug 28, 2021 · Marie ShawnBeautiful scenery however the hiking trail was all grown up... there were no directions to find the trail we had to ask ... we hiked a little ways and turned around due to overgrowth ...it would be nice if the trail around the small lake was maintained.
Jun 24, 2020 · Choctaw CatNice park, friendly atmosphere, tent camping only $10 a night.
