Based on recent feedback from fellow campers, this campground offers a relatively straightforward camping experience with appealing natural surroundings and access to various recreational activities.
Environment:
Cle Elum River Campground is situated in a location that offers some "peekaboo views of the lake" from certain campsites. This suggests a proximity to a body of water, likely the Cle Elum Lake, enhancing the scenic appeal. While the campground itself doesn't have direct water access, beaches are located just a few minutes south, making it a convenient base for lake-related activities. The campground is located "right next to the road," but traffic is reported as "not too noisy," suggesting a balance between accessibility and a reasonably peaceful environment. The surrounding area is noted as a "good base to get an early start on the trails at the end of the road," indicating its proximity to hiking opportunities. Furthermore, the reviewer recommends researching the area in advance for various activities like "camping, boating, hiking, off-roading," highlighting the diverse recreational potential of the region surrounding the campground. Another camper loved the "views from the water side lots," emphasizing the scenic beauty available from some of the campsites. The presence of both lake views and nearby trails suggests a setting that caters to different outdoor interests.
Services and Amenities:
The reviews provide specific information about the amenities available at Cle Elum River Campground. It operates on a "first come first served" basis, with no reservations required, which can be convenient for spontaneous trips. The cost for single sites was $20 per night at the time of the review, with a discounted rate of $10 per night for Senior or Access pass holders. A single double site is available for $40 per night. The campground is equipped with "latrines (vault toilets - no water)," so campers should be prepared for this type of facility. One reviewer noted that the latrines were "in decent shape." While there is phone coverage, data service was not available for one visitor. This might be a consideration for those who need to stay connected. Overall, the services appear to be somewhat basic, focusing on providing campsites and essential sanitation facilities, with the primary appeal being the location and access to nearby recreational opportunities.
Features:
A key feature of Cle Elum River Campground is its first-come-first-served system, offering flexibility for campers. The availability of single and a double campsite caters to different group sizes. The potential for "peekaboo views of the lake" from some sites and the "amazing views from the water side lots" are significant draws for those seeking scenic beauty. Its location serves as a "good base to get an early start on the trails," making it ideal for hikers. The proximity to beaches just a few minutes south provides easy access to lake activities. The surrounding area offers a wide range of recreational opportunities, including boating, hiking, and off-roading, although it's advised to research and map these in advance due to limited data coverage outside of Ronald. The fact that one camper found an "amazing large spot with a good view" after the initial rush suggests that there are desirable campsites available. The contrast between the potentially quieter weekdays (as indicated by the low occupancy on a Friday) and possibly busier weekends is also a feature to note for those planning their visit.

Cle Elum River Campground Reviews
Stayed here on Friday 7/7 and there were only a handful of sites occupied; no reservations, just first come first served. Single sites are $20/night (there’s one double site for $40/night); Senior or Access pass holders $10/night. Some sites have peekaboo views of the lake. Latrines (vault toilets - no water) were in decent shape. It’s right next to the road but not a ton of traffic so not too noisy. I had phone coverage but no data. Good base to get an early start on the trails at the end of the road. No direct water access from this campground but there are some beaches just a few minutes south. For whatever activities you’re interested in (camping, boating, hiking, off-roading), I recommend researching the area and marking your map in advance as data coverage stops near the town of Ronald.
Jul 10, 2023 · Trisha BuryLoved this place! Nothing fancy buy the views from the water side lots was amazing. We came Saturday evening and got the last spot (not pictured). Once it cleared out Sunday we moved to an amazing large spot with a good view (same cost- only 1 site is more and that's because it's a dual party site) .
Jul 11, 2023 · Brook MitchellOpen season: mid May to Mid Sept. Heavy usage camp area. Located at the head of Lake Cle Elum along the Cle Elum River, this campground offers 14 first come/serve trailer/tent sites and a reservable group site with a capacity of 100 people. There are 3 Vaulted Toilets. Not flush toilets.
May 07, 2023 · Myra AlcoranThis campground was alright. Bathroom was not up to par, dirty bathroom floor. The tent sites were very dusty and a little small. On a positive, there's a lovely river trail and the meadow is peaceful. All in all, I would not camp there again.
Aug 25, 2019 · Steven WoodYou can find morels right across the street in the forest right now (may 24, 2018). It's a great area to stay on the edge of the 2018 pick zone. The facilities were clean and it is right next to cle Elum river so you get this wonderful wooshing river sounds all around. Very soothing! Plan for an hour or two traipsing around Roslyn if possible quaint artsy town close by.
