Cle Elum River Group Site Introduce
For local residents of Washington State searching for "camping near me," particularly those planning group outings or family adventures, the Cle Elum River Group Site, located at 23931 Salmon La Sac Rd, Ronald, WA 98940, offers a compelling option. With contact phone numbers (509) 649-3744 and +1 509-649-3744, this campground has garnered positive feedback from long-time visitors, highlighting its natural beauty and suitability for various seasonal activities.
The environment surrounding the Cle Elum River Group Site is a significant draw, characterized by abundant nature, including forests, the Cle Elum River itself, and proximity to a lake. This diverse landscape provides a rich backdrop for camping and offers opportunities for a wide range of outdoor activities. The presence of a river suggests potential for fishing, wading (when water levels are safe), and enjoying the soothing sounds of flowing water. The nearby forest offers shade, hiking opportunities, and wildlife viewing, while the proximity to a lake expands the possibilities to include boating or other water-based recreation, depending on the lake's accessibility and regulations.
According to visitor reviews, the Cle Elum River Group Site is considered a "great place for camping, any season." This speaks to its year-round appeal, offering different experiences depending on the time of year. One long-time camper (over 20 years) notes that while some things have changed, it remains a favorite spot to return to. This longevity of positive experiences suggests a consistently enjoyable camping destination for locals searching "camping near me."
In terms of services and features, the reviews provide some valuable insights. The mention of "spring water is too high" at certain times (presumably during spring snowmelt) indicates the presence of a natural water source, although its usability might vary seasonally. It's crucial for campers to inquire about the availability and potability of water sources during their planned visit. The allowance of "fire allowed through end of June" suggests that campfires are permitted at certain times of the year, likely with adherence to local fire regulations and burn bans. This is a desirable feature for many campers seeking the traditional campfire experience.
One reviewer noted a "hand driven water pump was fun for my preschooler," indicating the presence of a manual water pump, which could be a source of water for handwashing or other non-potable uses, and an interesting novelty for children. The fact that the site is described as "well maintained for the most part" suggests that efforts are made to keep the area clean and functional, which is a positive aspect for local users seeking a well-kept "camping near me" location.
However, one concern raised is that "people leave lot of garbage behind." This highlights the importance of practicing Leave No Trace principles and for campers to be responsible for their waste. It's a factor that potential visitors should be aware of, encouraging them to contribute to keeping the area clean for everyone's enjoyment.
The reviews also touch upon the potential for crowding on weekends, with one camper advising that it "can be crowded Fri- Saturday" and recommending that "best to come during week days" for a quieter experience. This is valuable information for local users with flexible schedules who prefer a more secluded camping trip. For those limited to weekend camping, it suggests being prepared for a potentially busier environment.
Beyond the traditional camping season, the Cle Elum River Group Site offers opportunities for winter activities. The review mentions that "snowshoeing is great on sunny days with cold temperatures, even did fire in snow." This highlights its potential as a base for winter excursions, appealing to local residents interested in snowshoeing and winter camping (with appropriate gear and precautions). The ability to have a fire in the snow adds to the winter camping experience.
One minor issue noted was that "One of the pit toilets had no hand sanitizer." While the site is generally well maintained, this suggests that campers should come prepared with their own hand hygiene supplies, especially when using shared facilities like pit toilets.
Given that this is a "Group Site," it is specifically designed to accommodate larger parties. This makes it an excellent option for local groups of friends, multiple families camping together, or organized outings. The capacity of the group site is not mentioned in the reviews, so it would be prudent for potential organizers to inquire about the maximum number of people it can accommodate when making a reservation. The "group site" designation also often implies a larger common area for gathering and potentially designated areas for multiple tents or RVs.
To get the most up-to-date information and to make reservations, local users should contact the provided phone numbers: (509) 649-3744 or +1 509-649-3744. They can inquire about the availability of the group site, any fees or reservation procedures, current water conditions, fire restrictions, and the specific amenities offered (such as the number of campsites, parking availability, and the presence of picnic tables or fire rings at each site). It would also be wise to ask about the capacity of the group site to ensure it can comfortably accommodate the planned group size.
In conclusion, the Cle Elum River Group Site in Ronald, WA, offers a well-regarded year-round camping destination for local users searching "camping near me," particularly groups and families. Its environment boasts a river, forest, and proximity to a lake, providing opportunities for diverse outdoor activities. While it can be crowded on weekends, weekdays offer a quieter experience. Campers should be prepared for potential seasonal variations in water availability and the need to bring their own hand sanitizer. The allowance of fires (seasonally) and the potential for winter activities like snowshoeing add to its appeal. Contacting the provided phone numbers for reservations and the latest information is highly recommended for those planning a visit to this favored local camping spot.

Great place for camping, any season. Spring water is too high, fire allowed through end of June, can be crowded Fri- Saturday. Been going camping here for past 20+ years. Lot have changed but still favorite spot to come back. People leave lot of garbage behind. Snowshoeing is great on sunny days with cold temperatures, even did fire in snow. Best to come during week days.
