Costanoa

North Lodge & Spa, 2001 Rossi Rd, Pescadero, CA 94060, USA

4.0
We got the tent with heating which is important in winter since it’s cold! We only stayed one night but the setting is gorgeous and the staff is super friendly. Lovely to wake up and get a coffee to walk over to look at the beach. The spot is worth the visit. Walking to the bathrooms was the only downside since our cabin didn’t have one. - CathDonnelly

Costanoa Introduce

For local users searching "Camping Near Me" in the Northern California coastal region, Costanoa, situated at North Lodge & Spa, 2001 Rossi Rd, Pescadero, CA 94060, USA, offers a distinctive and multi-faceted eco-adventure resort experience. Reachable at (650) 879-1100, Costanoa blends the rustic charm of camping with the comforts and amenities typically associated with a resort. This unique approach appeals to a broad range of visitors, from those seeking a luxurious glamping experience to those with their own RVs, all within a stunning natural setting near the Pacific Ocean.

Environment: Coastal Beauty and Nature Immersion

Costanoa is set in a breathtaking environment, described as being at the "center of one of the most ruggedly beautiful and spacious stretches of California's coast." The property spans 48 beautiful acres, designed to foster a sustainable connection with nature. It is surrounded by undisturbed wilderness, rolling coastal hills, and secluded beaches, creating a truly immersive natural experience. The resort is strategically located near Ano Nuevo State Park and Big Basin Redwoods State Park, offering easy access to significant natural attractions. Guests can enjoy "beautiful coastal views" when walking around the property, and the ocean is just a short walk (about 20 minutes) across the highway and through sand dunes. Wildlife, including bunnies, quail, deer, and various birds and butterflies, are common sights around the property, enhancing the sense of being deeply connected to nature. The presence of succulent gardens and diverse plants contributes to a vibrant ecosystem within the resort. The setting provides a sense of peace and quiet, allowing visitors to disconnect and appreciate the natural surroundings.

However, it is important to address recent feedback regarding environmental changes under new ownership. One review expresses concern that a "beautiful garden was suddenly just mowed down by new ownership" for "more asphalt," showing "complete disregard for the plants and creatures that lived there." This indicates a potential shift in the aesthetic and environmental philosophy of the property, which long-time visitors found worrisome. While the natural setting outside the immediate developed areas remains stunning, prospective visitors should be aware that internal landscaping and design may be undergoing modifications.

Services and Features: Diverse Accommodations and Resort Amenities

Costanoa offers a variety of accommodation types, making it suitable for different preferences under the "Camping Near Me" umbrella. These include:

  • Tent Bungalows (Glamping Tents): These provide a "glamping" experience, combining the best of camping with creature comforts. They typically include comfy beds with real mattresses, electric lights, and heating (important for cooler winter nights). Guests staying in these bungalows share access to nearby "comfort stations," which are well-maintained bathroom facilities featuring private indoor and outdoor showers, saunas, and heated concrete floors.
  • Cabins: Costanoa offers various cabins, some with views of the Chalk Hill Mountains, Ohlone Ridge, or Franklin Point. Options like Coastal Deluxe Cabins and Coastal Studio Cabins can accommodate families (up to 7 and 5 people, respectively) and offer full bathrooms, flat-screen TVs, full refrigerators, stoves, microwaves, and outdoor picnic decks. Some are also pet-friendly.
  • Lodge Rooms and Suites: For those seeking a more traditional hotel experience, the Lodge offers rooms and suites with amenities like king beds, fireplaces, mini-fridges, coffee stations, and private bathrooms, some with deep soak tubs and balconies with views.
  • RV Sites: For traditional RV camping, Costanoa also provides RV sites, offering another option for visitors with their own vehicles. These sites are typically available with full hookups.

Beyond accommodation, Costanoa provides a comprehensive range of resort-level amenities:

  • Dining: The Cascade Restaurant and Bar offers "fresh California coastal cuisine" with breakfast, brunch, lunch, and dinner, including a kids' menu. Reviews praise the restaurant, with some noting that vegetables are grown onsite. The Pine Tent serves as a seasonal outdoor bar and eatery. A General Store is also on-site, stocked with food, local beer and wine, sundries, and gifts.
  • Spa and Wellness: Costanoa features an on-site spa offering services like deep-tissue massages and Swedish massages in two treatment rooms. However, it's important to note that the spa and hot tub have been reported as "currently closed" with no reopening date set, pending replacement plans.
  • Recreation: The resort offers hiking trails directly on the property, with connections to Ano Nuevo State Park and Big Basin. Mountain bike rentals are available for all ages. There's a playground for children, a firepit for communal gatherings, and various outdoor entertainment areas. The resort also hosts activities like presentations on local wildlife and guided hikes.
  • Conveniences: Free in-room WiFi and WiFi in public areas, laundry facilities, a 24-hour front desk, an ATM, and self-parking (surcharge) are available. Pets are welcome in certain accommodations and areas for a fee.

One review mentioned that some tent bungalows "didn’t have a bathroom," requiring a walk to shared facilities, which could be a "downside" for some. This emphasizes the varying levels of "camping" versus "glamping" within the resort's offerings.

Promotional Information and Target Audience: An Evolving Gem

Costanoa promotes itself as an "eco-adventure resort," offering a unique blend of nature, comfort, and activity. Its "goods or services for sale" encompass a wide range of accommodation types (lodging, cabins, glamping tents, RV sites) combined with resort amenities such as dining, spa services (when open), and recreational activities. The location, with its "coastal beauty" and proximity to natural landmarks, is a strong selling point for those searching "Camping Near Me" for a memorable California coastal experience.

The target audience includes families, couples, and individuals seeking a more upscale camping or "glamping" experience, as well as those who appreciate eco-friendly practices and direct access to outdoor adventures like hiking and enjoying the beach. The "super friendly" staff and accommodating nature of the resort are frequently highlighted as reasons for its positive reputation and repeat visitors.

However, the recent changes under new ownership, particularly the reduction of garden areas and concerns about the future of the restaurant, are significant points for prospective visitors to consider. While one reviewer expressed disappointment and fear that the new corporate company "will ruin this place that my family has enjoyed for years," hoping for "thoughtful" improvements that save the beauty, other aspects of the resort (like the clean facilities, friendly staff, and diverse accommodations) continue to receive praise. It's advisable for potential guests to check the most current information regarding the spa and hot tub status, and any ongoing renovations to dining facilities, directly with Costanoa (phone: (650) 879-1100) to ensure their expectations align with the current offerings. Despite some recent adjustments, Costanoa continues to be a highly sought-after destination for a unique and comfortable outdoor experience on the California coast.
