According to visitor feedback, Council Group Campground offers ample space and essential amenities for a comfortable and enjoyable stay, with the added benefit of being within hiking distance to a lake.
The environment surrounding Council Group Campground in Angelus Oaks is characterized by the natural beauty of the San Bernardino National Forest. Campers can expect a setting surrounded by trees and the typical mountain vegetation of the region. The campground's proximity to hiking trails offers opportunities to explore the local flora and fauna and enjoy the scenic landscapes. One notable feature mentioned by a visitor is the accessibility of a lake within hiking distance, providing a potential destination for nature walks and enjoying the lakeside environment. While the campground's location near Highway 38 does result in some road noise, as noted by one reviewer, the overall natural setting still provides a welcome escape for groups looking to spend time outdoors.
Council Group Campground is equipped with services and features tailored to accommodate large groups. One of the most significant aspects highlighted in the reviews is the sheer size of the campsite, described as "huge" and "more than comfortable for 50 people." This ample space allows for the setup of numerous tents and the organization of group activities. The availability of running water on-site is a significant convenience for large groups, facilitating cooking and hygiene. The presence of two restrooms is also noted, although one review mentions the absence of "ought" (likely referring to lighting or other amenities within the restrooms, which suggests they are perhaps basic). For cooking, the campground provides four BBQ pits, although one was reported as broken in a review, so it's advisable to check on their condition beforehand. A key feature for group camping is the provision for a "bong fire" (likely a typo for "bonfire"), which creates a central gathering point for warmth and camaraderie in the evenings, subject to local fire regulations. The spaciousness of the site also allows for recreational activities such as setting up a volleyball net, as mentioned by one family who camped there with approximately 30 tents and still had plenty of room left.
The features of Council Group Campground are particularly suited for large gatherings. The capacity to comfortably host up to 50 people makes it ideal for events like family reunions or organized group camps. The hiking distance to a lake provides an easily accessible recreational option for campers of all ages. The availability of multiple BBQ pits facilitates group cooking, and the provision for a bonfire area enhances the social aspect of group camping. The ample space allows for various activities and ensures that large groups do not feel cramped. While the proximity to the highway and the resulting road noise is a noted drawback, the overall features cater well to the needs of large groups seeking a communal camping experience in a natural setting. The fact that a family has returned for a second year with a growing group indicates a positive overall experience and suitability for large gatherings.

Council Group Campground Reviews
Place was great for my seven-year-old's Cub Scout camp out. The only downside is it is pretty close to the highway, my ear plugs made it better, I would call a noise enough to drop it down a star though. Kids loved it lake is in hiking distance. I would go again.
Oct 30, 2017 · Cindi BoyerThis camp site is huge and more than comfortable for 50 people. Has rubbing water and 2 restrooms (no ought in the restrooms) has 4 bbq pits but one is broken. My family was loud and no one bothered us or told us to quiet down. Bong fire was amazing and comfy. Family set up about 30 tents, and volleyball net. We still had a lot of room left. This is the second year my family camps there. The group is growing so we might not be able to camp there next year, but if we can keep a group of 50, this is definitely the place to go.
Jul 18, 2017 · Ivette LWe love this campsite. I take my girl scout troop here every year. The bathrooms are super clean and the site is maintained very well by the camp hosts at nearby Barton Flats.
Jun 09, 2019 · Cathleen BlackettEntrance IS at Barton Flats road. Google Maps location guarantees you will pass the entrance, requiring a dangerous u-turn on Highway 38.
Aug 28, 2023 · No SmogI was walking down the highway very peaceful Highway very quiet and then all of a sudden I hear music in the background I was just passing through I did not stop here but I thought it was just very interesting to hear the music in the middle of the forest
