Cultus Lake Campground Introduce
Are you searching for a beautiful lakeside camping experience near you in Oregon? Cultus Lake Campground, located on Forest Service Rd 120, Blue River, OR 97413, USA, offers a picturesque setting with spacious campsites and access to the clear waters of Cultus Lake. Situated in a region known for its natural beauty, this campground provides opportunities for boating, paddling, and enjoying the outdoors. However, potential visitors should be aware of a significant issue with mosquitos, particularly at the boat-in campground on the west side of the lake, as reported by recent campers. Careful planning and preparation for insect management will be essential for a comfortable stay.
The environment surrounding Cultus Lake Campground is consistently described as "beautiful," highlighting the natural appeal of the area. The campground is located by Cultus Lake, known for its very clear water, making it attractive for various water activities. One reviewer specifically mentioned the "boat-in campground on the west side," noting its secluded nature. This suggests that the campground offers different camping experiences depending on the location, with the west side providing more privacy. The presence of surrounding nature is evident, as one camper mentioned that after about 8 pm, "the sounds of nature were all we heard," indicating a peaceful and immersive outdoor setting away from artificial noise. The campsites themselves are reported to be "big" and offer "more privacy than most," which is a significant advantage for those seeking a sense of seclusion while camping. The lake is described as "pretty" and "nice to paddle on," suggesting it is suitable for canoes, kayaks, and other small watercraft. The overall environment is one of natural beauty and tranquility, with the lake being a central feature for recreation and scenic enjoyment.
Cultus Lake Campground offers several features that contribute to a positive camping experience, alongside some noted drawbacks. A significant advantage is the spaciousness of the campsites, which provide more room and privacy compared to many other campgrounds. For those with boats, the presence of a boat-in campground on the west side offers a unique and secluded camping option. The lake itself is well-suited for boating and paddling, with clear waters enhancing the experience. The paved areas within the campground, mentioned in another review (though seemingly referring to a different campground, the possibility exists here as well if the context is broader), would be a benefit for walking and potentially biking within the campground. However, a major service-related issue highlighted by a reviewer is the overwhelming presence of mosquitos, particularly on the west side boat-in campground. The reviewer stated, "Mosquitos, mosquitos, and more mosquitos," and mentioned going through an entire bottle of DEET while constantly being in a swarm. This suggests that insect repellent is absolutely essential, and the severity of the problem might deter some campers, especially during peak mosquito season. In contrast, the reviewer noted that while launching and pulling out their boat on the east side, they "didn't notice mosquitos there," indicating a potential difference in insect activity between different areas of the lake or campground. It's important to note that information about standard campground amenities like restrooms, water hookups, or other services is not provided in these specific reviews. The focus is primarily on the natural environment and the mosquito issue.
The key features of Cultus Lake Campground include its beautiful lakeside location with clear waters ideal for boating and paddling. The campsites are noted for being spacious, offering more privacy than typical campgrounds, with a particularly secluded boat-in option on the west side. The natural environment provides a peaceful setting, with the sounds of nature becoming prominent in the evenings. However, a significant drawback is the severe mosquito problem reported on the west side of the lake, which potential visitors must be prepared for. The apparent difference in mosquito activity between the east and west sides of the lake might be a factor for campers to consider when choosing a location, if different camping areas are available. The suitability of the lake for boats and jet skis, as mentioned in one review (referring to waves that can be choppy), suggests that it caters to more active water sports in addition to paddling. The combination of a beautiful lake environment with spacious, private campsites is appealing, but the potential for a significant mosquito issue, at least in some areas, is a critical factor to consider.

Cultus Lake Campground Reviews
Mosquitos, mosquitos, and more mosquitos. We stayed at the boat-in campground on the west side, which was secluded and beautiful. After about 8 pm the sounds of nature were all we heard. The campsites are big offer more privacy than most. It's a pretty little lake and nice to paddle on, just too many bugs. We went through a whole bottle of deet and we were always in a swarm. The campground on the east side seemed much better, while launching and pulling out our boat we didn't notice mosquitos there.
Jun 18, 2023 · Greg HiggsIt's beautiful! Campsites are spacious. This is more for boats and jet skis as it has waves that can be choppy. Water is very clear.
Jul 04, 2023 · Brenda AckersonSuper pretty campsite. Went in mid June and there was hardly anyone camping there which was nice. Hardly any bugs, probably cause it was still wet and a little cold. No showers, not even at the nearby resort. Vault toilets. Water was shut off during our stay. Stayed at site 4, lots of space and well spaced between other sites. Verizon coverage was nearly non existent, occasionally got enough signal for notifications to come through but that’s it.
Jun 18, 2022 · Erik PProbably the most helpful and kind camp host we have come across in years. We pulled up to a full campground (so the sign said) and decided to ask the camp host if there was anything available for the night. He jumped right into his golf cart and found us a spot, so we weren't driving the motorhome and boat in circles around the campground. This is a wonderful campground to stay at. Give it a go!
Aug 22, 2024 · jason keeseeI went to Cultus Lake on business and was on a sailboat mostly. The lodge has amazing food especially if you haven’t had a warm meal in a few days. The camp hosts Eric and Don are so nice and accommodating and went above and beyond to make us comfortable in the campgrounds. Bathrooms are mostly clean but there is no running showers or sinks to wash with. The lodge has flushing toilets but I would feel bad using them without getting something from the small store or restaurant. We were underprepared for dry tent camping and didn’t realize it was so far back to town. Overall it was alright. :)
