Decent place, but not for long trailers! It's a tight squeeze for our 32' horse trailer with living quarters, some of the spots are not long enough for a trailer this size, and because of the single lane with trees/boulders/log fences on either side you have little wiggle room when backing. Spots have picnic tables and fire rings. The toilets were clean. The well is under construction so all the water is off for now. A short walk to the creek is nice. Some road and train noise, didn't bother us but just know you can hear it - Trisha Knobloch

Devil Creek Campground Introduce

Searching for "camping near me" in the Essex, Montana area, particularly within the scenic Flathead National Forest? Devil Creek Campground, located at 15485 US-2, Essex, MT 59916, USA, offers a camping experience with notable features and some considerations for larger trailers. While a direct phone number is not provided in the available information, its address places it within a well-known outdoor recreation area.

Feedback from individuals who have camped at Devil Creek Campground provides valuable insights into its environment, facilities, and overall suitability for different types of campers. One reviewer described it as a "decent place" but cautioned that it might not be ideal "for long trailers!" They specifically mentioned the challenges of maneuvering a 32' horse trailer with living quarters due to tight spaces. According to this review, some of the camping spots are not long enough to accommodate such a large trailer, and the single-lane access road, bordered by trees, boulders, and log fences, offers limited room for backing. This is a crucial piece of information for campers with larger recreational vehicles.

Despite the challenges for long trailers, this reviewer noted that the campsites do have "picnic tables and fire rings," which are standard and desirable amenities for most campers. They also positively mentioned that "the toilets were clean," which is a significant factor in the overall camping experience. However, they also pointed out a temporary inconvenience: "The well is under construction so all the water is off for now." This lack of water availability is an important consideration for potential visitors, who would need to bring their own water supply until the well is operational again. On a positive note regarding the environment, the reviewer mentioned that "a short walk to the creek is nice," indicating access to a natural water feature that can enhance the camping experience.

Finally, this reviewer noted some ambient noise, stating, "Some road and train noise, didn't bother us but just know you can hear it." This suggests that the campground's proximity to US-2 and possibly railway lines results in some level of traffic and train sounds, which may or may not be a concern depending on individual preferences for campsite tranquility.

Another reviewer offered high praise for the camp host, Sandy, stating that "Devil Creek Campground and Flathead National forest are lucky to have a camp host like Sandy!" They commended Sandy for working hard to "keep the camp ground clean and make sure every camper leaves happy!" This strong positive feedback suggests that the campground benefits from an attentive and dedicated host who contributes significantly to the positive experience of the campers. The reviewer went on to say, "Every campground needs a host like Sandy!!!! Also the best smelling bathroom at a campground I’ve ever been too!" This reinforces the earlier comment about clean toilets and further highlights the positive impact of the camp host on the cleanliness and overall atmosphere of the campground.

Based on these reviews, Devil Creek Campground offers a camping experience within the beautiful Flathead National Forest with access to a creek and campsites equipped with picnic tables and fire rings. The presence of a dedicated and effective camp host like Sandy appears to be a significant asset, contributing to a clean and welcoming environment, including well-maintained restrooms. However, potential visitors with long trailers (around 32 feet or longer) should be aware of potential difficulties maneuvering and fitting into some campsites due to tight access and limited site lengths. Additionally, the temporary water outage due to well construction is a crucial factor to consider when planning a visit.

The natural environment of Devil Creek Campground, being located within Flathead National Forest, is likely to be a major draw, offering opportunities for hiking, wildlife viewing, and enjoying the scenic beauty of Montana. The proximity to a creek adds to the appeal for those who enjoy water-related activities or simply the ambiance of flowing water. However, the presence of road and train noise might be a consideration for those seeking complete natural silence.

The positive feedback regarding the camp host could be seen as a promotional aspect, highlighting the welcoming and well-maintained nature of the campground under Sandy's care. The clean restrooms are also a significant feature that could attract campers who prioritize hygiene. However, the limitations for long trailers and the temporary water issue are important factors that potential visitors need to be aware of.

For local users searching for "camping near me" in the Essex, MT area within Flathead National Forest, Devil Creek Campground offers a location with a helpful camp host, clean facilities (restrooms), and access to a creek. It is well-suited for smaller camping setups. However, those with larger trailers should exercise caution due to potential space constraints. It is advisable to inquire about the status of the well construction and bring an adequate water supply if necessary. The presence of some road and train noise should also be considered based on individual preferences for campsite tranquility. Despite these considerations, the positive aspects, particularly the dedicated camp host and the natural setting, make Devil Creek Campground a potentially appealing option for many seeking a camping experience in this region.
