Dimond O Campground Introduce
For individuals searching for "Camping Near Me" with an interest in experiencing a more rustic and less amenity-rich outdoor adventure close to Yosemite National Park, Dimond O Campground emerges as a viable option. Situated on Evergreen Rd, Groveland, CA 95321, USA, this campground offers a different kind of camping experience compared to larger, full-service resorts. Potential visitors can contact the campground via phone at (209) 962-7825 or +1 209-962-7825 for any inquiries, though it's important to note its operating model.
The environment of Dimond O Campground is characterized by its natural, forested setting within the Stanislaus National Forest, just outside the boundaries of Yosemite National Park. This provides a traditional outdoor camping atmosphere, with sites typically nestled among trees, offering shade and a sense of immersion in nature. The campground is designed for those who appreciate a more primitive camping experience, where the focus is on the natural surroundings rather than extensive modern conveniences. Its proximity to Yosemite is a significant advantage, providing relatively easy access to the park's iconic natural wonders and recreational opportunities.
Regarding services and features, it is crucial for prospective campers to understand that Dimond O Campground offers a minimalist set of amenities. Key information from customer reviews indicates that there are no showers available on-site, and similarly, no sinks specifically designated for dishwashing. Campers are advised to "plan accordingly," which generally means bringing their own washing basins and methods for cleaning dishes, and being prepared for sponge baths or relying on external shower facilities if desired. The bathrooms, while described as "stark," have been noted by at least one reviewer as "amazingly clean." This suggests that while basic, efforts are made to maintain hygiene. The presence of some sort of plumbing issue was also mentioned, which required campers to walk a considerable distance to find a usable water source for dishwashing. This highlights that visitors should be prepared for potential variations in service availability and perhaps bring extra water containers as a contingency.
One of the primary operational features of Dimond O Campground is its "first-come, first-serve" policy. This means that unlike campgrounds where reservations can be made in advance, securing a spot at Dimond O depends on arriving early and finding an available site. This can be a particular challenge during peak seasons or holidays, especially for those traveling long distances. One customer recounted driving six hours from Los Angeles in the early morning specifically to obtain a spot, emphasizing the need for early arrival and a degree of luck. The cost per night was stated as $33, providing a clear indication of the pricing structure.
From a promotional standpoint, the main draw of Dimond O Campground is its excellent location. Its position on Evergreen Road places it advantageously for visitors looking to explore Yosemite without staying directly inside the often-crowded National Park campgrounds. The natural setting, with tall trees and a generally quiet atmosphere, appeals to campers seeking a tranquil experience. The hosts of the campground have been positively highlighted in a review for their helpfulness and kindness, suggesting a welcoming on-site presence that can enhance the camping experience, provided other issues do not arise.
However, it is imperative to address some very serious negative feedback that has been shared by a customer. A highly concerning review details an alleged incident where a camper, after securing a first-come, first-serve spot and paying the fee, was allegedly "kicked out of the place" by the manager. The reviewer claims the manager's action was based on a false assertion that someone else was already at the spot, and further alleges that the manager was "racist," lacked "criteria or education," and was "bitter with life," asserting that such individuals "shouldn't work in places of natural and familiar habitat." The reviewer stated they were given half an hour to leave, with a threat of police involvement if they did not comply. This incident, if true, raises significant concerns about guest relations, fairness, and potential discrimination at the campground. While this is a single account and does not represent the experience of every visitor, it is a critical piece of information for any prospective camper to consider when evaluating Dimond O Campground. It underscores the importance of clear communication, respectful interactions, and equitable treatment for all guests in a public-facing service like a campground.
Therefore, while Dimond O Campground offers a rustic and conveniently located option for "Camping Near Me" close to Yosemite, particularly for those who prefer basic amenities and a first-come, first-serve model, potential visitors should be fully aware of both its limited facilities and the serious allegations of discriminatory behavior reported by a past guest. It is recommended that individuals seeking to camp here manage their expectations regarding amenities and be prepared for a less structured experience. Furthermore, prospective campers might consider looking for recent, varied reviews to gain a broader perspective on current management practices and ensure a safe and welcoming environment for their stay. The direct contact number, (209) 962-7825, remains the official channel for direct inquiries and to seek clarification on policies or any concerns before visiting.

Dimond O Campground Reviews
Well this camp ground is a great location and the hosts could not have been more helpful and kind. Unfortunately there was some sort of plumbing issue and we had to walk quite a ways to be able to wash our dishes. The bathrooms were stark but amazingly clean. Note there are no showers or sinks for dishwashing so plan accordingly.
Dec 04, 2024 · Mlle. LupitaI drove 6 hours from Los Angeles in the early morning to get a first come first serve spot. I was lucky and found a spot for me and my friends. The sign clearly said available. I paid $33 a night, then we went to Yosemite Park. In the morning, when we got back, the manager was waiting for us and then it seems she is racist, she kicked us out of the place because she claims someone else was already there when clearly there was no one. That person was her friend. I guess she told us we weren't welcome and that we had half an hour to leave, because if not, the police would kick us out. I think people like that have no criteria or education, and are also racists, bitter with life, they shouldn't work in places of natural and familiar habitat.
Oct 18, 2024 · Ball OneThis campsite was definitely worth the travel! It was such an amazing view, with a couple small trails, and a lake to hang out! There is restrooms and water pump available! We did first come , first service and paid $33 a night (cash only) they also do see firewood ($10 cash only)Also there is no cellphone service (I have AT&T) my boyfriend has Verizon and got one bar but it was super slow
Jul 15, 2024 · emily maganaWe were traveling with a 27' RV, so we just needed a place next to yosemite that won't interfere. This is a good solution because it's 15 minutes from the entrance to Yosemite Park. When you enter the campground don't forget to take an envelope to pay (33$ a night).
May 24, 2024 · lior doronFacilities were very clean and grounds were well kept. Quiet campground. Very close to Yosemite's Oak Flat entrance. Camp hosts were attentive. I'd recommend this campground to anyone looking for a calm respite away from the crowds of Yosemite valley while still being close to some popular sites.
