Walnut Creek Campground & Resort Introduce
For those in the Chillicothe, Ohio region searching for "camping near me," Walnut Creek Campground & Resort, located at 2342 Walnut Creek Rd, Chillicothe, OH 45601, presents a large campground with a variety of accommodation options and features. Based on recent customer feedback, this resort offers a mix of positive aspects and areas where potential visitors should be aware of the current conditions. It's a sprawling property with a hilly terrain, suggesting a significant amount of space for exploration and different camping experiences.
Walnut Creek Campground & Resort offers cabin rentals in addition to traditional campsites, catering to different preferences for lodging. The "Family Tree Cabin," for example, was described as "very nice" and offering a "nice shaded area for grill and fire ring." This suggests that the cabins provide a comfortable and well-equipped base for a stay, with outdoor amenities for cooking and enjoying campfires. However, one reviewer of a different cabin experience noted some significant drawbacks, including an insufficient supply of towels and washcloths for the number of guests, windows lacking screens which prevented comfortable ventilation, and unusable pots and pans due to peeling Teflon. It's advisable for cabin renters to confirm the specific amenities and their condition prior to arrival.
For those considering traditional camping, the campground appears to offer a generally pleasant environment, particularly during the week when it is reported to be "very quiet and peaceful." The presence of "lots of vehicles going through and side by sides" mentioned by one reviewer might suggest some internal traffic within the campground, which could be a consideration for those seeking ultimate tranquility during peak times.
In terms of amenities, Walnut Creek Campground & Resort boasts a hot tub, which was described as "very nice and peaceful in the evenings" and "nice to see" and working "as expected." This appears to be a well-received feature offering relaxation for guests. The campground also features a "lake" which is described by one reviewer as "more like a pond," and was a disappointment to the fishermen in their group. However, the pond does offer boats that are reportedly "free to use," providing an on-site recreational activity for guests.
The campground also mentions firewood availability. One reviewer noted that while some firewood was present at the site, using it required purchasing more at a cost of $10, which they felt was high. This contradicts a statement of "firewood included" mentioned in the context of a cabin rental. It's recommended to clarify the firewood policy and costs, especially if this is an important aspect of your camping experience.
One significant area of concern raised in the reviews is the condition of the pool, which was described as "green and disgusting," leading guests to avoid it entirely. This suggests that the pool may not be consistently maintained to a satisfactory standard, which could be a major disappointment for visitors hoping to swim.
The campground is large and hilly, making golf cart rentals a useful option for navigating the property. One reviewer found the golf cart helpful for getting around. However, it's crucial to note a significant discrepancy regarding the "golf cart trails." According to one guest, the trails are "not as advertised" and are mostly suitable for ATVs, potentially dangerous for golf carts. Furthermore, the map available on the website was described as "useless and outdated." If you are planning to rent or bring a golf cart and utilize the trails, it is strongly advised to inquire about the current trail conditions and obtain an accurate map upon arrival.
Despite some of the noted issues, the staff at Walnut Creek Campground & Resort are consistently described as "friendly" and "welcoming." One reviewer appreciated the "nice lady at the office" who provided them with sugar they had forgotten. This positive feedback about the staff suggests that while there may be shortcomings in some of the facilities or information provided, the personnel are generally helpful and accommodating.
The campground is reported to be "clean and well maintained" overall, indicating that the owners are putting effort into the upkeep of the property, aside from the specific issues mentioned. The availability of Wi-Fi was appreciated by one cabin guest, especially given the "little to no mobile phone service" in the area. This could be a significant advantage for those needing to stay connected.
Based on the available information, Walnut Creek Campground & Resort offers a large property with a variety of accommodation options and some appealing amenities like a hot tub and a fishing pond with free boat use. However, potential visitors should be aware of the reported issues with cabin amenities, the pool condition, the accuracy of information regarding firewood and golf cart trails, and potential internal vehicle traffic. While the staff is friendly and the campground is generally clean, it is recommended to contact the resort directly at (740) 774-1203 or +1 740-774-1203 to inquire about the current status of amenities, specific cabin inclusions, firewood policies, and the golf cart trail conditions to ensure it meets your expectations for a "camping near me" experience in Chillicothe, Ohio. Currently, no specific promotional information is available in the provided reviews.

Walnut Creek Campground & Resort Reviews
Campground was nice during the week for the most part. Lots of vehicles going through and side by sides. Stayed in a cabin for a week, said everything included even called asking. Was 6 of us and only 6 towels and washcloths for the whole week. When we could actually get someone at the office they brought some once or twice if they remembered. So we had to go buy some so we could shower. Windows didn’t have screens (maybe one did) so we couldn’t open the windows unless we wanted more bug inside. Pots and pans were horrible all the Teflon scraping and peeling off so not safe to use. Also said firewood included and some was but if you used what was at the site you had to buy more (also would have brought but site says included) lake is more like a pond, the fisherman with us we’re rather disappointed with that. Pool was green and disgusting so we didn’t even step foot in that.Staff was friendly when we spoke with them.Hot tub was very nice and peaceful in the evenings.
Sep 20, 2024 · Shauna StahlStayed for 2 nights in the Family Tree Cabin. Very nice cabin, nice shaded area for grill and fire ring. Wifi worked well, there is little to no mobile phone service so wifi was appreciated. The pond has boats that are free to use.Firewood was $10, I thought that was high, but I took $10 worth and had a good fire.Hot tub was nice to see. It worked as expected. The golf cart trails are not as advertised, do not expect to take your golf cart on these trails, most of the trails are only suitable for ATV and would be dangerous on a golf cart. The map available on the website is useless and outdated. The staff was friendly, we had forgotten sugar, and the nice lady at the office supplied us with enough to get through our stay.It is a large campground with a lot of hills, so the golf cart was useful in getting around. We visited mid-week so it was very quiet and peaceful. You can tell the owners put a lot of work into this place as it is clean and well maintained.Overall, I would visit again.
Aug 09, 2024 · Aaron SalisburyWhile trying to make a reservation was hung up on, then the line was busy when I tried to call back. Next day saw a FB post from their site so asked why I was hung up on. "Author" just put ? So I went into more detail, basically what I explained above. Then they blocked me on FB too. I have no idea why they act this way since we were discussing cell phone coverage at the time. Wish the owner would contact me and explain. Don't want to go to BBB but their behavior is unacceptable. I can't believe a business operates this way. You have my contact info from 3 phone calls and I filled out the reservation request form on your site so you have contact info there too. Edit, wish I had read all the negative reviews below before wasting so much time on this horrible run place.
Oct 08, 2024 · Gary ElswickWe are returning campers yearly to Walnut Creek. The grounds are very well kept. The owners and their family are delightful folks. We thoroughly enjoy our stay every single time. Never an issue. ❤️
Jul 27, 2024 · Roger BarnesWe camped for a week here as part of a large family group. My family was in our camper while most others were in cabins. Here are our thoughts:Pros: Very quiet campgroundVery affordableKayaks and rowboats are free to use on the little lake.Beautiful settingBig pool with lots of seatingA Haunted Woods trail in the woods was kind of fun to go throughCabins were really niceThe bathroom building was clean, and had nice hot waterThe paved roads were niceFriendly staffReasonable golf cart rental ratesWifi in cabins goodCons: Not a walking campground - it's very hillyNon seasonal trailer sites are in a field with zero shade!Office had strange/unknown hours ( a sign with hours would have been helpful)The pool area was nice, but the pool had some serious algae issues. It was very, very green to brown. It shows it green on the website, too, so it's not a new issue, perhaps?Wifi at campfires almost none existent. Wifi at pool acceptable.Cell phone coverage very limited at campsite and cabins.Overall, not bad. It seems to be a nice place to be a seasonal camper. Great location with lots to do nearby and very scenic and peaceful.
