Tar Hollow North Ridge Campground Introduce
For local residents in Ohio seeking a "camping near me" experience that combines natural beauty with recreational opportunities, Tar Hollow North Ridge Campground, located in Laurelville, OH 43135, presents an interesting option. Situated within the expansive Tar Hollow State Park, this campground is known for its challenging trails and the availability of amenities, making it a destination that caters to both adventurous hikers and those who appreciate a comfortable camping setup. However, it's crucial for potential visitors to be aware of a significant piece of information from recent reviews: the campground is reportedly scheduled to be shut down for remodeling in the upcoming season.
Despite the impending renovation, the current state of Tar Hollow North Ridge Campground is described as "already nice" by a recent camper. This suggests that even before the planned improvements, the campground offers a pleasant environment for outdoor enthusiasts. The anticipation for the remodeled facilities indicates that the future of this campground holds even greater potential for an enhanced camping experience. For local users looking for "camping near me" with the expectation of well-maintained amenities, the future re-opening of Tar Hollow North Ridge Campground could be a noteworthy event.
One of the key features highlighted in the reviews is the presence of "challenging trails." This makes Tar Hollow North Ridge Campground particularly appealing to hikers and backpackers who enjoy exploring more demanding terrain. The rugged landscape of Tar Hollow State Park is known for its deep ravines, steep ridges, and dense forests, offering a variety of hiking experiences for different skill levels. The proximity of the campground to these trails provides convenient access for campers looking to immerse themselves in the natural beauty of the area and engage in invigorating outdoor activities.
The mention of "camping with amenities" suggests that Tar Hollow North Ridge Campground offers more than just basic campsites. While the specific details of these amenities are not provided in the limited review information, typical campground amenities can include restrooms, showers, picnic tables, fire rings, and potentially water and electric hookups at some sites. The fact that a camper specifically mentioned "amenities" implies that the campground aims to provide a comfortable and convenient camping experience beyond primitive camping. Local users searching for "camping near me" with the desire for certain comforts will likely find these amenities appealing, both in the current state and potentially enhanced after the remodeling.
One reviewer shared an experience of arriving on a Sunday afternoon and enjoying "three days of solitude" with no other campers present, despite a lot of rain. This suggests that, at least during certain times of the year or week, the campground can offer a secluded and peaceful camping experience. For local residents seeking an escape from the hustle and bustle of daily life and looking for "camping near me" where they can enjoy tranquility and solitude in nature, Tar Hollow North Ridge Campground might be an ideal choice, depending on the timing of their visit.
The fact that the reviewer who experienced solitude still had a positive experience despite the rain ("But, who cares?") speaks to the appeal of the location and the overall camping environment. This suggests that the natural surroundings and the opportunity for a quiet getaway outweigh some of the less favorable aspects, such as inclement weather.
Given the significant information that the campground is "supposed to be shut down this coming season for remodeling," it is absolutely crucial for local users considering a visit to verify the current operational status and any potential closure dates. This information was provided by a recent camper and should be considered tentative until confirmed by official sources. Unfortunately, no phone number or website is provided in the given information to directly contact the campground for updates on the remodeling schedule or current availability.
Without a direct contact method or further information, it is impossible to provide details about specific services offered at the campground, such as the availability of RV hookups, tent-only areas, or specific recreational facilities beyond the hiking trails. Similarly, no information is available regarding potential fees, reservation procedures, or any promotional offers for local campers. To obtain this essential information, local users would need to seek out official Tar Hollow State Park contact details through other means, such as the Ohio Department of Natural Resources website.
In summary, Tar Hollow North Ridge Campground in Laurelville, Ohio, appears to be a "nice" campground in a scenic location within Tar Hollow State Park, offering challenging trails and camping with amenities. It has the potential for a secluded camping experience, particularly during off-peak times. However, the critical piece of information regarding a planned closure for remodeling in the upcoming season necessitates that local users actively seek out current operational status before planning a visit. While the future improvements are anticipated to be positive, the immediate availability of the campground is uncertain based on the provided reviews. For those seeking "camping near me" with access to challenging hikes and amenities, Tar Hollow North Ridge Campground is worth investigating further for its current status and future potential.

Tar Hollow North Ridge Campground Reviews
The camp is supposed to be shut down this coming season for remodeling. It's already nice. I can't wait to see it when they are done. If you like to camp with amenities and challenging trails this is for you!
Nov 09, 2024 · Mike CauseyWe arrived on Sunday afternoon. Set up camp, and enjoyed three days of solitude. No other campers. A lot of rain. But, who cares?
Jun 28, 2021 · Just JimInstructions when reserving a site online could be better. It would be nice if they included the fact that you need to go to the main building before setting up at your site in the emailed instructions. Also include specifics on where that main building is located. The tent only sites are reasonable and on the high ground where rain is less of a concern. The restrooms are simple outhouses, but there is toilet paper and hand sanitizer.
Oct 19, 2018 · James MooreVery primitive and surrounded by hills and woods. This is exactly what I was looking for. What's nice is you can get on their website and reserve a spot ahead of time with a credit or debit card. You will still have to check in at the General Store inside the park. It is easy to find, with signs pointing the way. I'll be spending alot of weekends there!
Apr 30, 2019 · Michael ErwinNice campgroun. Cannot park at site, must use provided parking lot and lug stuff up the hill. No hookups, but pit toilets and water spigot available.
