The tent sites were not well organized when we arrived, the poor front desk attendant was left not knowing who was occupying which sites so we were referred to 2 areas that were a little more secluded which we appreciated since she did know there was Boy Scouts around. The sites themselves are spacious with a fire ring, charcoal grill and picnic table. Bathrooms were decent but the showers were very dark and filled with so many bugs that I didn’t even use them. As advertised, service is spotty at best, very random when I would be able to receive or a send a text. Make sure you have everything planned before arriving as you won’t be able to Google nearby food, shops etc. The front desk had a magazine with places listed but hard to pick a place when you can’t see menus or reviews when we were rained out from our camp dinner.Google has a picture of a beach my friend and I couldn’t find granted we didn’t ask the front office for directions, we followed the 1/3 mile trail to the river that was advertised on the camp map we got. The trail splits with no signs on where to go so we went left and stumbled across what looked like a homeless site so took a few pictures of the river before heading back hoping we didn’t disturb whoever was occupying the area. It was a beautiful view of the river, just wish the trails were better marked and maintained. It rained during our stay so was unable to take advantage of the water recreation available on site. I would be interested in coming back for a canoe trip but a little disappointed about the showers advertised. Most campsites that I’ve stayed at with showers and bathroom has them in the men’s and women’s bathroom not separate closet looking rooms for common use. If you can get past the creepy feels of the shower, overall a nice campsite for the price. - Rachael Lowell

Camp OutBack Introduce

For local users searching within the "camping near me" category in the Luray, Virginia, area, Camp OutBack, located at 6502 S Page Valley Rd, Luray, VA 22835, USA, presents a mixed bag of experiences based on recent customer reviews. You can reach them at (540) 743-4159 or +1 540-743-4159. While the campground offers spacious sites, river access, and various recreational opportunities, potential visitors should be aware of reported issues regarding site organization upon arrival, the condition of the showers, and limited cell service.

The environment of Camp OutBack appears to be set in a potentially scenic location near Luray, likely offering access to the natural beauty of the Shenandoah Valley. The presence of a river, accessible via a 1/3 mile trail mentioned by one reviewer, suggests opportunities for water-based activities, although the exact nature and accessibility of the riverbanks and any advertised "beach" (mentioned in relation to a Google picture) require further clarification. The campground also boasts a "large pond" accessible for fishing, birdwatching, and hiking, indicating diverse natural environments within or near the property.

In terms of campsite features, the reviews indicate that the sites themselves are "spacious" and equipped with essential amenities such as a fire ring, a charcoal grill, and a picnic table. These are standard and desirable features for most campers, providing the means for campfires, outdoor cooking, and comfortable outdoor dining.

However, the organization of tent sites upon arrival seems to be an area for potential improvement. One reviewer noted that the front desk attendant was unsure about site occupancy, leading them to be directed to more secluded areas. While this reviewer appreciated the eventual secluded sites, the initial disorganization could be frustrating for other guests. The first-come-first-serve basis for site selection, mentioned by another reviewer as a positive aspect allowing guests to "pick your own site," also implies that the experience might vary depending on the arrival time, with better choices potentially available earlier in the day.

The condition of the bathroom facilities, particularly the showers, received negative feedback. One reviewer described the showers as "very dark and filled with so many bugs" that they chose not to use them. Another found the shower setup "creepy," noting that they were in separate "closet looking rooms for common use" rather than being integrated within gender-specific bathrooms, which they found unusual compared to other campgrounds. These comments suggest that the shower facilities might be a significant drawback for some visitors.

Connectivity appears to be limited at Camp OutBack. As advertised, cell service is "spotty at best," with random periods of being able to send or receive texts. This lack of reliable service can be inconvenient, especially for planning activities or finding local information. One reviewer highlighted the difficulty of researching nearby food and shops due to the poor service, recommending that visitors have everything planned before arriving. While the front desk had a magazine with local listings, the inability to access online menus or reviews during inclement weather posed a challenge.

The trails within the campground also received mixed feedback. One reviewer found the walk down to the river "pleasant" and enjoyed exploring trails by the river. However, another encountered a poorly marked trail to the river with an unmarked split, leading them to stumble upon what appeared to be a homeless encampment. This suggests that while there are trails with potential for scenic views, the maintenance and signage might need improvement.

Despite the issues, one reviewer who experienced rain during their stay expressed interest in returning for a canoe trip, indicating that water recreation is likely available on-site. This suggests a potential positive aspect for those interested in paddling activities, although further details about canoe rentals, river access points, and safety guidelines would be beneficial.

The staff at Camp OutBack received positive feedback from one reviewer, who described them as "friendly, knowledgeable." This positive interaction with staff can significantly enhance the overall camping experience, potentially offsetting some of the infrastructural concerns.

Based on the available reviews, the services and features of Camp OutBack can be summarized as:

  • **Spacious Campsites:** Equipped with a fire ring, charcoal grill, and picnic table.
  • **First-Come-First-Serve Site Selection:** Allows guests to choose their own site upon arrival.
  • **River Access:** Via a 1/3 mile trail, offering scenic views but potentially poorly marked.
  • **Large Pond:** Accessible for fishing, birdwatching, and hiking.
  • **Potential for Water Recreation:** Canoe trips mentioned as a possibility.
  • **Decent Bathrooms:** Cleanliness described as "decent."
  • **Problematic Showers:** Dark, filled with bugs, and an unusual "closet" setup.
  • **Spotty Cell Service:** Limited and unreliable connectivity.
  • **Friendly and Knowledgeable Staff (according to one review).**

There is no specific promotional information available in the provided reviews, such as discounts, special packages, or seasonal offers. Local users would need to contact the campground directly or visit their website (if available) for such details.

For local users considering Camp OutBack for their "camping near me" adventure, it's essential to weigh the positive aspects (spacious sites, river and pond access, potential for water activities, friendly staff) against the reported drawbacks (potential disorganization at check-in, unpleasant shower conditions, limited cell service, and potentially poorly maintained trails). If you prioritize spacious sites and are prepared for rustic shower facilities and limited connectivity, and if arriving early to secure a good campsite is feasible, Camp OutBack might still be a viable option, especially for those interested in exploring the river and pond areas.

It is highly recommended that potential visitors contact Camp OutBack directly to inquire about the current state of the shower facilities, trail maintenance, and any specific procedures for check-in and site selection. Reading more recent reviews from various platforms might also provide a more up-to-date perspective on the overall camping experience at Camp OutBack.
