Looking for "camping near me" in the wilderness of northern Minnesota? Divide Lake Campground & Backcountry Sites, located on Forest Rte 172, Isabella, MN 55607, USA, offers a gateway to both developed campsites and more remote backcountry experiences. You can reach them at (218) 663-8060 or +1 218-663-8060 for inquiries.
The environment surrounding Divide Lake Campground is characterized by its proximity to water and the typical northern Minnesota woods. Divide Lake itself is a central feature, described as "nice" with "clean clear and cold" water, which is appealing for swimming and general enjoyment. One review mentions a potential "fishing pier" at nearby Dumbbell Lake, suggesting that fishing is an activity in the area. The terrain likely involves forests surrounding the lake, creating a natural and potentially scenic backdrop for camping. However, one reviewer noted that trails could be "very overgrown" during the summer, which is something to consider for those planning to hike around the area. The presence of mosquitos is also highlighted as "unbearable at night and in the morning" during July, although they are reportedly better on or near the water. This suggests that while the natural setting is beautiful, seasonal factors like insects should be taken into account.
The services and features at Divide Lake Campground appear to be somewhat varied based on the customer reviews. Some points to consider include:
- Lake access: Divide Lake is accessible, with clean and cold water suitable for enjoyment.
- Fire pits: One review mentions "beautiful" campsites, implying the presence of fire pits for campfires.
- Potential fishing opportunities: Nearby Dumbbell Lake is mentioned as having a fishing pier, and Hogback Lake, a bit further away, is also noted for fishing (trout).
- Varying campsite quality: Reviews suggest that not all campsites are equal. Site 1 is mentioned as "the best," while others are described as "nice," "okay," and even a "joke." This indicates that the experience might depend significantly on the specific campsite assigned.
- Restroom facilities: Bathrooms are available, but one review points out a "serious fly problem" and a lack of apparent cleaning or fly paper replacement by the park service.
- Trash disposal: There are guest trash bins, but a concern was raised about non-guests using them, potentially leaving little room for campers' trash.
The availability of backcountry sites alongside the main campground suggests options for those seeking a more primitive and secluded camping experience, though no specific details about these sites are provided in the reviews.
A key feature mentioned is the proximity to Divide Lake and other fishing lakes in the vicinity. For those interested in fishing, the mention of Dumbbell Lake with a fishing pier and Hogback Lake being "great for fishing/trout/camping" offers alternatives if Divide Lake Campground is full or if different fishing environments are desired. The varying quality of campsites is also a notable feature – potential visitors might want to inquire about specific site availability and characteristics when booking. The contrasting experiences with insect levels (worse inland, better near water) and trail conditions (overgrown in summer) are also important features to be aware of when planning a trip.
Regarding promotional information, the provided text does not include any specific discounts or special offers. However, the information about alternative fishing and camping at Dumbbell and Hogback Lakes could be seen as additional options for users if Divide Lake Campground doesn't fully meet their needs or is at capacity. To inquire about any potential promotions, availability, or specific campsite details, contacting the campground directly at the provided phone numbers would be the best course of action.
In conclusion, Divide Lake Campground & Backcountry Sites offers a camping option in the Isabella, Minnesota area, with access to Divide Lake and proximity to other fishing lakes. While the natural environment has its appeal, potential visitors should be aware of the varying quality of campsites, potential insect issues during summer, and the possibility of overgrown trails. The availability of both developed and backcountry sites caters to different camping styles. For those considering a visit, it would be prudent to contact the campground directly to inquire about campsite specifics and current conditions to ensure a more satisfactory "camping near me" experience in this part of Minnesota's wilderness.

Divide Lake Campground & Backcountry Sites Reviews
The campsites are beautiful. Site 1 is the best, if you can get it. We were there in July and the mosquitos are unbearable at night and in the morning. On or near the water they are better. The trail was very overgrown and a mosquito mosh pit due to it being summer. The water was clean clear and cold, just how we love it. Fall, I'm sure would be better but it was already chilly at night in July so pack warm:) Dumbbell lake is where the fishing pier was and of you don't mind another 12 miles down the road is hogback lake which is also great for fishing/trout/camping if divide lake is full.
Jul 11, 2022 · Mckenzie TollefsonLake is nice, one of the campsite is nice, one campsite is okay, and the first one is a joke. The bathrooms had a serious fly problem, and the park service didn't seem to clean them or replace fly paper. About two people a day would stop and dump trash in the guest trash bins, so little room left for guest's trash. All in all, way better campsites, probably shouldn't pay for this one.
Jul 05, 2024 · JasonNo water or garbage, but empty on a Wednesday night. The trail around the lake is enjoyable. Very mossy/raniforesty.
Sep 28, 2023 · minimate masterworksDecent tent pads, outhouse and garbage. The only downside is that everything is so close together. I wish there was more space between facilities so it would be more private. Good for families though.
Jun 10, 2018 · Amber VineyI love that entire area, the only bad thing is there are far more people going there than in the past, mist of them are fine, but the percentage of folks with poor campsite etiquette has gone way up...
