The environment at Dumbarton Quarry Campground on the Bay is one of its most remarkable features. As its name suggests, it is "right on the bay," providing stunning views of the San Francisco Bay. While this proximity can lead to it getting "heinously windy," it also offers incredible scenic beauty, especially from elevated vantage points like the Bay View Trail, where one can "clearly see both SF and Oakland skylines." The campground is nestled within a natural landscape that supports abundant wildlife; visitors have noted the presence of "a rafter of turkeys that wanders through the park," along with "a million blackbirds, bluebirds and finches that call the park home." This rich avian life makes it a fantastic spot for bird watching. The landscape transitions from the immediate bayfront to areas with "miles and miles of hiking trails that extend from the end of the park," providing ample opportunities for exploring diverse terrains. The setting is surprisingly quiet given its proximity to major roadways, suggesting good sound dampening or a well-designed layout, though visitors should be aware of being "in flight path of SFO and OAK airports," with planes audible but generally "not obnoxiously loud."
The services offered at Dumbarton Quarry Campground on the Bay are exemplary, contributing significantly to its "amazing" reputation. The campground provides "full hookup sites," a highly sought-after amenity for RV campers, making it convenient for those rolling out their fifth wheel or other recreational vehicles. Finding such sites, especially with "less than a week advance notice" over a holiday break in California, is described as "nearly unheard of," underscoring the campground's excellent availability even during peak times. The facilities are universally praised: "Everything is new, well maintained, and in excellent condition." Specifically, "The bathrooms are clean" and "spotless," a critical factor for camper satisfaction. Additional amenities include "laundry facilities," providing a practical convenience for longer stays, and "firewood available" for purchase, ensuring campers can enjoy traditional campfire experiences. The staff are noted as "very friendly and helpful," contributing to a welcoming and supportive environment. A specific rule, "you can't drive into the park past 10 PM," is in place, but ride-sharing services and walking are permitted, indicating a balance between security and accessibility.
The features at Dumbarton Quarry Campground are designed to cater to a wide range of campers, emphasizing both comfort and outdoor recreation. The "spacious" sites are a significant advantage, allowing for comfortable setups for RVs and tents alike. Each site likely includes a "fire ring," enabling campers to enjoy campfires responsibly. For families with children, a "playground" is available, providing a dedicated space for kids to play. Beyond the campground itself, the most prominent features are the extensive "miles and miles of hiking trails." These trails offer "plenty of scenic hiking with views of the Bay" and opportunities for "many species of birds to watch," making it a paradise for nature lovers and birdwatchers. The ease of access to these trails directly from the park is a major draw. For RVers, the "easy back in layout of all sites" simplifies parking and setup, enhancing the overall convenience. The campground's strategic location also serves as a feature; it's "about an hour from San Francisco, and thirty minutes from San Jose," providing excellent access to major Bay Area attractions, cultural sites, and entertainment options. Furthermore, essential services are close by, as "If you need to get groceries, you're about ten minutes from the store."
Regarding promotional information, Dumbarton Quarry Campground on the Bay holds several compelling advantages that make it a top choice for "Camping Near Me." Its "reasonable price, especially given the exorbitant prices of everything else out here," is a significant draw in the high-cost Bay Area. This value proposition, combined with the "stellar" facilities and amenities, makes it an attractive option for budget-conscious travelers who do not want to compromise on quality. The fact that guests "would recommend it and return" and that one visitor plans to "be back" highlights high customer satisfaction and a strong likelihood of repeat business. The sentiment of "The RV community has a gem here in the Bay Area. Spread the word!" acts as powerful organic promotion, encouraging positive word-of-mouth. While specific seasonal promotions are not detailed, the availability of sites, even with short notice during holidays, indicates efficient management and a willingness to accommodate campers. Operated by the City of Fremont and East Bay Regional Parks, the campground likely benefits from broader promotional efforts by these entities, which often include online booking systems, park guides, and event listings. Potential campers looking for more information or to make reservations can contact the campground directly at (888) 327-2757 or +1 888-327-2757. The consistent praise for its cleanliness, friendly staff, spacious sites, and exceptional access to nature and urban centers positions Dumbarton Quarry Campground as a must-visit destination for anyone seeking a high-quality camping experience in the Bay Area.

Dumbarton Quarry Campground on the Bay Reviews
This is an amazing campground. In terms of location, it is hard to beat. You're about an hour from San Francisco, and thirty minutes from San Jose. If you need to get groceries, you're about ten minutes from the store. The campground itself is stellar. Spots are spacious. The fire ring is nice. Because you're right on the bay it does get heinously windy but otherwise you're good. The bathrooms are clean. There is a rule that you can't drive into the park past 10 PM, but ride-sharing and then walking is okay. There are miles and miles of hiking trails that extend from the end of the park. On top of that, there is a rafter of turkeys that wanders through the park. There are also a million blackbirds, bluebirds and finches that call the park home. The price is reasonable, especially given the exorbitant prices of everything else out here. All in all, I would recommend it and return.
Mar 21, 2025 · Sam NicholsHad the bug to roll out the fifth wheel over holiday break but didn’t want to travel too far. Was able to reserve a full hookup site with less than a week advance notice. That was the first huge plus and nearly unheard of in California over a weekend! First time visiting and staying in the campground. Everything is new, well maintained, and in excellent condition. Bathrooms spotless. Staff very friendly and helpful. Amenities include laundry facilities, firewood available, playground, plenty of open space, and access to miles of trails. Overall the campground is surprisingly quiet for being close to several high traffic roadways. The main gripe was being in flight path of SFO and OAK airports. Planes were pretty high up and not obnoxiously loud but you could hear them. There is plenty of scenic hiking with views of the Bay and many species of birds to watch. Could clearly see both SF and Oakland skylines from Bay View Trail. Easy back in layout of all sites. We enjoyed our 3 night stay and will be back. The biggest mystery to us was why there were so many empty sites in the campground, even if it was December. The RV community has a gem here in the Bay Area. Spread the word! Well done City of Fremont and East Bay Regional Parks!
Jan 03, 2025 · Paul HendrycksWell taken care of campground close to the city. The campground was immaculate when it comes to cleanliness, landscaping and safety. It’s also a good price for California. I would definitely stay again. My only negative is that the gate closes at 10pm and you have to park on the street if you can’t make it back by that time.
Mar 17, 2025 · luke WilsonI remember the first time my friends and I decided on a camping trip to Dumbarton Quarry Campground. I didn’t think this was a good campground until we tried the camping here. We loved the campground now.The Dumbarton Quarry Campground doesn’t have lots of trees. But the weather is always nice in the Bay Area. We don’t need the trees. All the campsites are full hood up and the campground is very close to the city with supermarket, shopping, and restaurants. We loved it so much because it is convenient!
Jan 27, 2024 · Michael W.I really have nothing to complain about the park so I will give it 5 stars. Sites were level, new and plenty long enough for our 26 foot Winnebago trailer. Quiet at night. Safeway grocery close by. Campground had a washer and dryer as well. We were at site 60 which is farthest from the washers. Plenty of trails to walk dogs. We did have some mosquitos at night.
