Dunes Harbor Family Camp Introduce
Hello, local Michigan families and camping enthusiasts searching for "camping near me"! Dunes Harbor Family Camp, located at 2722 Ridge Rd, Mears, MI 49436, USA, offers a family-oriented camping experience in close proximity to the Silver Lake dunes. You can reach them at (231) 640-8895 or +1 231-640-8895 for inquiries and reservations. Based on the available customer reviews, this campground provides a range of services and features tailored towards families, with convenient access to the natural attractions of the area.
The environment at Dunes Harbor Family Camp appears to be well-maintained and designed for comfort. One reviewer noted "large very level lots with nice large concrete picnic table pads," indicating spacious and user-friendly campsites. While another reviewer mentioned "some trees" but "sites have no privacy," it suggests an open campground layout. The camp is described as a "Christian campground," which might contribute to its family-friendly atmosphere. Its key environmental feature is its proximity to the Silver Lake dunes, reported to be just a 5-minute drive away, making it an ideal base for those looking to explore this natural wonder. The presence of a pool is also mentioned, although one review notes it is "mainly for kids," suggesting a focus on younger campers' enjoyment.
In terms of services, Dunes Harbor Family Camp seems well-equipped. One review highlights a store that "offers a lot," suggesting the availability of camping essentials and perhaps more. A "nice size pool" is also mentioned, providing a recreational option within the campground. For convenience, the camp offers "24 hour laundry" facilities. The bathhouse is described as "clean with nice ADA showers with seats, handhold and hand sprayer," indicating attention to accessibility and cleanliness. The availability of "full or partial hookups" is also noted, catering to both RV and potentially tent campers needing varying levels of amenities.
The features of Dunes Harbor Family Camp strongly emphasize family activities. One reviewer who stayed during a "fall festival weekend" described events like "rock climbing and inflatables for the kids and archery, axe throwing for adults." They also mentioned a "September Halloween" event with trick-or-treating, highlighting the campground's efforts to create a fun and engaging atmosphere. The presence of a store and an ice cream shop in the main lodge is another feature that adds to the convenience and enjoyment of a family stay. While one reviewer with older children (17, 14, 13) felt the kid-to-adult ratio skewed heavily towards younger children (recommending it for those 10 years and under), they still had a "nice time" and mentioned a "1.5 trail ride $40 each" activity offered by the camp. This suggests some organized activities are available. The primary feature for many will also be the close proximity to the Silver Lake dunes, a major attraction in the area.
Regarding promotional information, the positive reviews serve as strong endorsements, particularly for families. The mention of special event weekends like the fall festival and September Halloween showcases the camp's commitment to providing more than just a place to stay. For local users searching for "camping near me" with children, the "Family Camp" designation and the activities described are significant promotional points. The reasonable pricing mentioned in one review also adds to its appeal. To inquire about specific promotions, family packages, or upcoming events, contacting them directly at (231) 640-8895 would be advisable.
Considering the "camping near me" category includes the availability of goods for sale, the mention of a store at Dunes Harbor Family Camp suggests that campers can likely purchase some essentials and perhaps treats like ice cream. This on-site store adds convenience, reducing the need to travel for basic supplies. For more specialized camping gear or other items, the nearby town of Mears would likely offer additional options.
In summary, Dunes Harbor Family Camp in Mears, MI, provides a family-focused camping experience with level lots, clean facilities, and a range of activities, especially geared towards younger children. Its proximity to the Silver Lake dunes is a major draw for outdoor enthusiasts. While the campground might be less ideal for families with older teenagers seeking more privacy, it appears to be a highly recommended option for those with younger children looking for a fun and engaging "camping near me" experience. The availability of a store, laundry facilities, and a pool adds to the convenience. Dunes Harbor Family Camp Reviews
Large very level lots with nice large concrete picnic table pads. Store offers a lot, next to a nice size pool. 24 hour laundry, Bathhouse is clean with nice ADA showers with seats, handhold and hand sprayer. We stayed on a fall festival weekend with rock climbing and inflatables for the kids and archery, axe throwing for adults. Saturday night was a September Halloween with 100s of kids going camper to camper for their treats. Very nice campground, highly recommend... And reasonably priced, full or partial hookups.
Sep 22, 2024 · Renault SmithWe have been camping all over the US and this is our first time at a Christian camp ground. Grounds are nice. Some trees. Sites have no privacy. The pool is mainly for kids. No place for adults to be. Plenty of chairs and a nice large shade area. The main lodge has a nice store and ice cream shop. The main thing is this is a family place like kid to adult ratio is 10/1. Our kids were older so we didn’t fit that but still had a nice time. We were here only 2 nights mostly to ride the dunes. Which is 5 min drive from camp. Camp offers some activities. My kids (17,14,13)did the 1.5 trail ride $40 each which was reasonable. Would stay somewhere else next time but if you have kids 10 yrs and under I would recommend this place.
Jul 09, 2024 · Rachel UilkWe had an amazing experience with our small family at Dunes Harbor! Facility is very nice and extremely well maintained. Plentiful staff was all very helpful and kind. Bath houses were cleaned daily for an hour and a half and it was noticable, sparkling clean and no smell!Daily activities are available for the family. Anything from horseback riding to crafts for the kids, to inflatables. Staff communicated daily through text messages about activities, checkout information, and helpful tips! The camp ground is run by a Christian organization and it is noticeable as well. They have rules about noise, alcohol is not allowed on the premises, and modest swimwear is kindly requested at the awesome pool/kids splash area!In addition to the pool area, they have play grounds, swings, hammocks, corn hole, sand volleyball, hiking trails, kayaks, an ice cream shop, gift/convenience store, and much more! Can't say enough good about this place and we will definitely tell our friends about it and hopefully be back in the future!
Aug 31, 2023 · Kurt CottrellDunes Harbor is an amazing campground! We are definitely coming back next year. All of the grounds are very nice and well maintained. Lush grass areas and flowers throughout. The store and ice cream shop are great also. The pool area is nice and clean. The playground is also nice. The lots around the outside (where we stayed) are vey scenic. This is a very familiar oriented campground with reasonable rules to make it enjoyable for all ages. Highly recommended.
Sep 19, 2023 · David DrakeMy husband & I LOVE this campground! It has very clean bathrooms, a wonderful gift and necessity shop, delicious ICE CREAM shop, friendly staff, and soooo much to do for fun, family experiences! My kids love the horse rides, the wooded trails, the paddleball court, beach volleyball, night lazer tag, the kid-centered activities put on by amazing staff, and of course the heated-outdoor pool! And it within a mile from Silver Lake Sand Dunes!
