Stony Haven Campground & Cabins Introduce
For local users in Michigan seeking "camping near me" in the New Era area, Stony Haven Campground & Cabins, located at 8079 W Stony Lake Rd, New Era, MI 49446, USA, offers a mixed experience based on recent customer feedback. This campground provides a combination of cabin rentals and traditional camping sites, situated in a potentially quiet and wooded environment. While some aspects have been praised, such as the friendly owners and the opportunity for tubing down Stony Creek to Lake Michigan, potential visitors should be aware of certain limitations and conditions highlighted in the reviews to make an informed decision.
The environment of Stony Haven Campground & Cabins appears to be characterized by a significant amount of trees and gravel surfaces. One reviewer noted that the entire place was "covered" in trees and dirt/gravel. While a wooded setting can offer shade and a natural camping ambiance, the gravel terrain might present challenges for certain activities, such as bike riding, as one guest mentioned that the road to their cabin was too steep and the gravel could lead to falls. This is an important consideration for families with children who plan to bring bikes.
The campground features a pond, with at least one cabin located nearby. The description of the cabin mentioned that the pond supposedly had fish. However, a reviewer reported that the pond was covered in green algae, which deterred their children from fishing for long. This suggests that the pond's condition might vary and may not always be suitable for fishing or other water activities. Potential guests interested in cabin rentals near a fishable pond should inquire about the current state of the pond before booking.
One of the notable features of Stony Haven Campground & Cabins is the availability of tube rentals, allowing guests to enjoy a leisurely float down Stony Creek to Lake Michigan. This was highlighted as a fun activity by one reviewer, suggesting that the campground provides access to this local waterway and the necessary equipment for a tubing adventure. The proximity to Stony Creek and Lake Michigan also implies potential access to swimming, although one reviewer noted that good swimming was best accessed by vehicle at the point where Stony Creek meets Lake Michigan.
For families with children, the campground offers a playground area. Reviews indicate that the playground consists of older toys, including swings, tires, a fort-like structure, and a merry-go-round type toy. While one reviewer mentioned that their children had fun making up their own games on the playground, another described it as "trashy" with "rusted metal structures" posing a potential safety hazard. This discrepancy in perception suggests that the condition and appeal of the playground might be subjective, and parents should perhaps inquire about its current state if this is a significant factor in their camping decision.
The bathroom facilities at Stony Haven Campground & Cabins are reported to be clean, which is a positive aspect for campers. However, a unique and somewhat inconvenient feature of the bathrooms is the presence of timed lights. One reviewer cautioned that the lights turn off quickly, potentially leaving users showering or using the toilet in the dark if they take too long or sit for an extended period. This is a noteworthy quirk that potential guests should be aware of.
The owners of Stony Haven Campground & Cabins are consistently described as "very nice and easy to talk to." Positive interactions with campground management can significantly enhance the overall camping experience, providing a welcoming and helpful atmosphere for guests.
One concerning review mentioned an incident involving the campground manager yelling at children on the playground at 10 PM and a subsequent uncomfortable encounter with a flashlight while adults were walking around. This account raises potential concerns about the management style and the enforcement of campground rules, particularly regarding noise and guest interactions. While this is a single negative report, potential visitors might want to consider this feedback alongside the positive comments about the owners' general niceness.
The availability of cabins is another feature of Stony Haven Campground & Cabins, offering a more comfortable and sheltered accommodation option compared to traditional tent camping. One reviewer who stayed in a cabin described it as "very nice and cozy" and enjoyed having campfires at the pit. This suggests that the cabins are well-maintained and provide a pleasant lodging experience. However, details about the size, amenities, and pricing of the cabins are not provided in the reviews.
In terms of the surrounding environment and potential activities, one reviewer mentioned that the campground was chosen for its proximity to Lewis Farms, a local attraction. This suggests that Stony Haven Campground & Cabins can serve as a convenient base for exploring other points of interest in the New Era area. However, the same reviewer noted that good fishing and swimming opportunities were not readily available on-site and required a vehicle trip to the mouth of Stony Creek where it meets Lake Michigan. They also found the fishing at a park across the road to be not very user-friendly for children.
Given the lack of specific promotional information in the provided reviews, local users interested in Stony Haven Campground & Cabins should contact them directly at (231) 861-5201 or +1 231-861-5201 to inquire about current rates for campsites and cabins, availability, any seasonal specials or discounts, and to get more detailed information about the amenities and conditions mentioned in the reviews, such as the pond, playground, and bathroom facilities. Asking about specific cabin features and sizes would also be beneficial for those interested in cabin rentals.
In conclusion, Stony Haven Campground & Cabins near New Era, MI, offers a quiet, wooded setting with cabin rentals and access to Stony Creek tubing. While the owners are described as nice, potential guests should be aware of the algae-covered pond, the gravel terrain potentially challenging for biking, the older playground equipment, the timed lights in the clean bathrooms, and the reported incident involving the campground manager. It serves as a convenient location near attractions like Lewis Farms, but good swimming and fishing might require a short drive. Local users seeking a "camping near me" experience here should weigh these factors and contact the campground directly for the most up-to-date information and to address any specific concerns.

Stony Haven Campground & Cabins Reviews
Overall this campground is ok-good. We had a cabin by the pond that claimed it had fish. The pond was covered in green algae. My kids did try fishing one time. It didn’t last long. The kids brought bikes to ride. The road to our cabin is too steep to ride bike on and everything is gravel, which can cause easy falls on steep roads. They had a lot of fun with the yard games! We took advantage of the tube rental and went down the Stony creek to Lake Michigan. The Bathrooms are clean, only thing….don’t take a shower or sit too long on the toilet….the timed lights turn off and u will be showering or using the the toilet in the dark😬.I picked this campground bc it was near Lewis Farms, which was our main destination. It is a quiet campground. I was hoping with the location my boys could ride their bikes to fish, swim, and have a good time. There isn’t much good fishing or swimming unless u go by vehicle to where Stony Creek meets Lake Michigan (swimming). They did try fishing at the park across the road but It’s not that user friendly. My kids had fun on the playground, they made up their own games. It consists of older toys. They have a volleyball net, tether ball, swings, tires, a fort like structure, and an old style twirl toy, like a Merry go round. The playground reminded me of the toys I grew up with 😁.The owners are very nice and easy to talk to.
Jul 23, 2024 · B BAt first I was pretty excited to go camping here with my family and friends but apon arriving I realized the whole place was covered and I mean covers in trees and dirt/gravel the playground was very trashy with rusted metal structures just sitting there and I all just seemed like a safety hazard the lady that runs the place came out and yelled at all the kids that were still on the playground at 10pm telling them it’s there bedtime and that she doesn’t want to listen to their crap whatever that means. And while me and my friends were walking around she came running after us with a flashlight so we had to hide in the bathroom tell she went away on another note the cabin was very nice and cozy and it was fun to have fires out by the pit

Aug 30, 2023 · Lloyd MillerLove this campground . We have been here two separate years 2022, and this year 2024. Our three boys have a lot of fun at the park and they have bikes the kids can rent and ride too. We plan to have another camping trip later this summer . They have clean bathroom and showers.
Jun 04, 2024 · Tana BersanoReviews and photos were way off. Lots of dirt, old playground, sites hard to get in and out of. Seasonal right next to us with 3 large dogs and six kids. Owner was nice. So much potential. Cut down some trees. Clean up.
