The environment surrounding Eagle Creek Campground is frequently lauded by visitors as exceptionally beautiful. One fortunate camper who secured a site after a cancellation described it as "the most beautiful place so far" among their extensive camping experiences. This speaks volumes about the visual appeal of the location. The campground's proximity to the Yellowstone north entrance means campers are immediately on the doorstep of the park's unique geothermal features, wildlife, and stunning landscapes. Furthermore, the drive to and from the campground is described as "an adventure in itself" with "amazing views" encompassing the town of Gardiner, the Yellowstone entrance, and even the detour route, offering a scenic prelude and conclusion to your stay.
A significant feature of Eagle Creek Campground, particularly for those who secure the "right site," is the "amazing view" it offers. While not all sites may have the same panoramic vistas, those located higher up reportedly provide stunning views of the Absaroka Mountains and even Mammoth Hot Springs in the distance. Imagine waking up to the majestic sight of these natural landmarks right from your campsite. This visual splendor significantly enhances the camping experience, making it more than just a place to sleep but a destination in itself.
Beyond the views, campers appreciate the fresh air and the potential for wildlife encounters. Elk have been specifically mentioned as visitors to the area, offering the exciting opportunity to observe these magnificent creatures in their natural habitat. The combination of fresh mountain air and the possibility of wildlife sightings contributes to a truly immersive and memorable outdoor experience. However, as with all wildlife encounters, it is crucial to maintain a safe distance and never feed the animals.
The facilities at Eagle Creek Campground are described as "well maintained," which is a significant plus for any camper. While the specific types of facilities (e.g., restrooms, water sources, hookups) are not detailed in the provided reviews, the positive mention of maintenance suggests that the basic necessities are kept in good order, contributing to a more comfortable and pleasant stay. For detailed information about the available amenities, contacting the campground directly via the provided phone numbers would be advisable.
One potential environmental factor to be aware of at Eagle Creek Campground is wind. Reviewers noted that it can get "pretty windy sometimes," although it tends to "die down fairly quickly." Being prepared for potential wind with appropriate gear (e.g., securing tents and belongings) is recommended. Additionally, one reviewer recounted an unusually cold snap during their stay, highlighting that mountain weather can be unpredictable, and it's always wise to pack layers and be prepared for varying temperatures, even in the summer months.
For those seeking a budget-friendly camping option near Yellowstone, Eagle Creek Campground is highly recommended for "cheap camping just outside Yellowstone." This affordability, combined with the stunning location and convenient access to the park, makes it an attractive choice for budget-conscious travelers who don't want to compromise on the overall experience. While the sites are described as "nice" but "not all that private," the other significant advantages, such as the views and proximity to Yellowstone, seem to outweigh this for many visitors.
Another remarkable feature highlighted by a camper is the incredible stargazing opportunities at Eagle Creek Campground. With "little to no light pollution," the night skies above the campground likely offer a breathtaking panorama of stars, constellations, and perhaps even the Milky Way. This is a significant draw for astronomy enthusiasts and anyone who appreciates the beauty of a pristine night sky, providing a magical and serene experience after the sun sets.
Given the positive reviews and the campground's prime location near Yellowstone's north entrance, it is highly likely that Eagle Creek Campground is a popular destination, especially during peak season. One reviewer mentioned the necessity of reserving a site two months in advance after a cancellation opened up, underscoring the importance of planning ahead and making reservations as early as possible to secure a spot. Contacting the campground directly via phone is the best way to inquire about availability, reservation procedures, and any specific policies or fees.
In conclusion, Eagle Creek Campground offers a fantastic "camping near me" option for those looking to explore Yellowstone National Park and the surrounding Montana wilderness. Its prime location just minutes from the park's north entrance provides unparalleled convenience. The stunning views of the Absaroka Mountains and potentially Mammoth Hot Springs, the chance for wildlife sightings like elk, the well-maintained facilities, and the incredible stargazing opportunities all contribute to a memorable camping experience. While some sites may lack complete privacy and wind can be a factor, the overall consensus from visitors is overwhelmingly positive, especially considering its affordability. For local users and travelers alike, Eagle Creek Campground serves as a beautiful and practical base for discovering the wonders of Yellowstone and the captivating landscapes of Montana. Remember to call (406) 848-7375 or +1 406-848-7375 to inquire about reservations and make your plans to experience this remarkable campground.

Eagle Creek Campground Reviews
We were fortunate enough that someone canceled and a site opened up so we reserved it right away (2 months out). I have camped at a lot of locations before this has been the most beautiful place so far.Besides just being minutes up from the Yellowstone north entrance, it's got an amazing view if you get the right site ( which we did), fresh air, wildlife (elk) and well maintained facilities. The only downfall is that it gets pretty windy sometimes, but dies down fairly quickly. Unfortunately for us, for some odd reason. The two coldest nights of the month happen to be both our nights (33° and 31°) then back to the 40s when we left. The drive up and down is an adventure in itself, but the view from the route is just amazing. You can see the town, the Yellowstone entrance and the detour route that you probably came down from
Aug 10, 2023 · Kao MouaWe absolutely love this campground! It is quite and convenient to the north entrance of Yellowstone National Park. The views of the Absaroka Mountains and Mammoth Hot Springs at the higher sights. The stargazing at this park is incredible with little to no light pollution. The sights were nice, but not all that private. Highly recommend this for cheap camping just outside Yellowstone.
Jul 25, 2022 · Jacation AdventureCampsites are perfect for small camper, RV, van or tent. Anything under 20' basically. Lots of trees for shade. Asphalt road & campsite parking. Pit toilets, trash receptacle & fresh water onsite. Sites are well spaced & limited. Super low NFS pricing. The only negative is the proximity to I-84 & major railroad system. Bring ear plugs untill you get used to the sound. It becomes white noise after a couple of days. Great central location to the Columbia River Gorge & 30 minutes from Portland.
Jul 30, 2023 · Chuck OdetteCouldn't be closer to Yellowstone! Inexpensive and comfy spot to lay your head. There is a huge variety in site sizes. We got in on a Tuesday at 4:00 and there were two spots left so I wouldn't hang your vacation on it unless you are traveling in the shoulder season.Road from Gardiner is a well maintained gravel roadn it is somewhat windy and steep but passable by just about any vehicle. No reception.
Jul 17, 2021 · Alexis CarideoA beautiful area to camp right next to north entrance of yellowstone. If you have clear skies, stargazing is amazing here. Beautiful greenery and birds. Pit toilets only. Only some sites are reservable. Others are first come, first serve. If it rains, the sites get muddy.
