Eastwood Campground Introduce
Looking for "camping near me" within a natural and tranquil setting in Wisconsin? Consider Eastwood Campground, located off Forest Rd 104 in Westboro, WI 01581, USA. While the address might seem slightly off with the zip code, Eastwood Campground is situated within the Chequamegon Nicolet National Forest and offers a rustic camping experience. Based on recent feedback and information available, this campground provides a quiet escape nestled in the woods, with access to nearby recreational opportunities. For local users seeking a more secluded and nature-oriented "camping near me," Eastwood Campground presents an interesting option.
The environment of Eastwood Campground is consistently described as being "way back in the woods" and nestled in a "scenic, mature deciduous forest." One reviewer noted the "large spacious camping area," suggesting that the sites are well-proportioned and offer a sense of openness within the wooded setting. While one source mentions that the scenery might be "a bit less dynamic" compared to other campgrounds on the Mondeaux Flowage, the mature forest setting is highlighted as potentially "stunning in fall." For local users looking for "camping near me" who appreciate the peace and beauty of a mature forest, particularly those who enjoy fall colors, Eastwood Campground could be very appealing.
In terms of services and features, the information suggests a more rustic camping experience. One reviewer mentioned "wells for water and a dumpster for garbage," indicating the availability of basic necessities. They also noted that a "Camp host was on site during our stay Incase you had any issues," which can provide a sense of security and assistance. The roads leading to the campsites are gravel. It's worth noting that Verizon service was reported as limited, which might be a consideration for those who need to stay connected. Importantly, it has been reported that Eastwood Campground is being reduced in size from 22 sites to 12, with the sites closer to the water being maintained and the initial ten non-waterfront sites being decommissioned. This reduction is part of a broader strategy within the Chequamegon Nicolet National Forest. Therefore, availability might be more limited, and future visitors will be camping closer to the water.
A significant feature of Eastwood Campground is its proximity to the Mondeaux Flowage. The campground is described as being "just a short walk or drive from the Mondeaux Dam Lodge, where visitors will find a beach and lots of accessible shoreline for fishing." This access to the flowage adds a recreational dimension for those "camping near me" who enjoy swimming, fishing, or simply being near the water. Additionally, Eastwood Campground is "not far from the Ice Age Trail," with the local segment being "very well-kept," offering opportunities for hiking enthusiasts.
One review explicitly states that "The national forest does exceptionally well maintaining all of their campgrounds on the Mondeaux, Eastwood included." This positive feedback regarding maintenance is reassuring, especially considering the reported decommissioning of some sites. It suggests that the remaining waterfront sites are likely to be well-cared for. The same source also encourages visitors not to underestimate the quality of rustic camping in central Wisconsin, asserting that the Mondeaux region offers scenery and recreation comparable to the northern parts of the state.
While there's no specific promotional information like discounts or special events mentioned, the inherent promotion is the quality of the rustic camping experience within a scenic, mature forest, coupled with access to the Mondeaux Flowage and the Ice Age Trail. For local users seeking "camping near me" that offers a quieter, more natural setting with opportunities for lake activities and hiking, Eastwood Campground presents a compelling option within the Chequamegon Nicolet National Forest.
The fact that Eastwood is one of the "lesser-visited" campgrounds on the Mondeaux Flowage might also be seen as a benefit for those seeking a more secluded experience. The quiet atmosphere, as mentioned by one reviewer who couldn't hear traffic or other campers violating quiet times, further enhances this appeal for those wanting a peaceful "camping near me" getaway.
In summary, Eastwood Campground near Westboro, WI, offers a rustic camping experience within a scenic, mature deciduous forest in the Chequamegon Nicolet National Forest. While some non-waterfront sites are being decommissioned, the remaining (likely waterfront) sites are maintained by the National Forest Service. Amenities include wells for water and a dumpster for garbage, and a camp host is typically present. The campground provides access to the Mondeaux Flowage for swimming and fishing via a short trip to the Mondeaux Dam Lodge, and it's also close to a well-maintained segment of the Ice Age Trail. The quiet and secluded atmosphere makes it a potentially excellent choice for local users seeking a nature-focused "camping near me" experience.
For local residents looking for a quality rustic camping experience "near me" that doesn't require traveling to the far north of Wisconsin, Eastwood Campground in the Mondeaux region is worth considering. Its blend of a mature forest environment, proximity to the flowage, and access to hiking trails offers a variety of outdoor activities in a tranquil setting. Just be aware of the limited Verizon service and the ongoing reduction in the number of campsites.
To determine if Eastwood Campground is the right fit for your "camping near me" needs, consider what you value most in a camping experience. If a quiet, wooded setting with access to a lake and hiking trails appeals to you, and you are comfortable with more rustic amenities, Eastwood Campground is a strong contender. You might also want to check the current availability of the remaining 12 sites, especially if you desire a waterfront location.

Eastwood Campground Reviews
Nice little campground, way back in the woods. Mosquitos weren't to bad. Large spacious camping area. Verizon service was limited. Gravel roads to get back to the camp sites. Has wells for water and a dumpster for garbage. Camp host was on site during our stay Incase you had any issues. Was quiet and couldn't hear traffic and other campers abided by the quiet times.
Jul 18, 2022 · Bryan KussOf the four national forest campgrounds on the Mondeaux Flowage, Eastwood is one of the lesser-visited.This campground is being reduced from 22 sites to 12 as of late. The ten sites you pass first while driving the one-way loop - the sites not on the water - are being decommissioned. The sites closer to the water are continuing to be maintained. This reduction is part of a broader recreation strategy being implemented across the Chequamegon Nicolet. It includes decommissioning seven full campgrounds collectively netting 77 campsites and reducing the number of sites and services offered at other locations. The scenery here seems a bit less dynamic than what one can experience on the west side of the flowage at Spearhead Point, Westpoint or Picnic Point campgrounds. The shoreline at those locations may also be a bit nicer and easier to access. That said, Eastwood is nestled in a scenic, mature deciduous forest. It is likely stunning in fall. The campground is just a short walk or drive from the Mondeaux Dam Lodge, where visitors will find a beach and lots of accessible shoreline for fishing. Eastwood is also not far from the Ice Age Trail. The Ice Age segment in this part of the state is very well-kept.The national forest does exceptionally well maintaining all of their campgrounds on the Mondeaux, Eastwood included.Don’t be fooled by the region’s location in central Wisconsin and think you need to go further north for quality rustic camping. The Mondeaux region of the national forest provides a quality of scenery and recreational offerings many may expect to find only in the northernmost reaches of the state.

Sep 15, 2023 · Deanna OneilThis is a very nice rustic campground. It's very secluded and each site is surrounded by forest. There us a path that went down to the lake. The bath room facilities were clean, but they still are an outhouse. No hookups here. And the water was shut off due to contamination so you had to I travel down the road to the next campground for water. Overall nice place and would camp here again.
Aug 27, 2021 · Judy GalvanekThe mosquitos were enough to carry a person away. The sites were clean but you need a Jack hammer to put the tent spikes in.
