Icehouse Campground

Klickitat, WA 98628, USA

Seemed pretty cool. Nobody around. Seemed liked. Until I got out and started walking around. Camper hidden way in the south end with camo tarps. And a tent set up. Like. A living SET UP. who came out and peeked a little. Went back inside. Pretty sketchy people “camped” down in here. Looks to me as if they have been there longer than the 14 day limit or whatever it is.Wildlife officer stopped by. Said all they can do is ask that they vacate. But they don’t.Basically told me to NOT leave my camp unattended for those reasons. Because they would most likely steal my stuff. Drugs are bad. I had friends showing up. We did stay here. One dog came over. The owner called for them. They left. Drugs are bad. - Steve Williams

Icehouse Campground Introduce

Are you looking for "camping near me" in the Klickitat, Washington area? Icehouse Campground, located in Klickitat, WA 98628, USA, presents itself as a potential option for your outdoor adventures. Based on the available online reviews, the experience at this campground seems to have both positive and concerning aspects that local users should be aware of.

One reviewer described the campground as "pretty cool" initially, noting that it seemed deserted upon arrival. However, their impression changed after exploring the area. They reported observing a camper hidden in the southern part of the campground with camouflage tarps and a seemingly long-term tent setup. This reviewer felt that the individuals occupying these sites were "sketchy" and suspected they had exceeded any posted stay limits. They also mentioned a visit from a wildlife officer who reportedly stated that their only recourse was to ask the individuals to leave, which apparently did not result in them vacating. Consequently, this reviewer was advised not to leave their campsite unattended due to the perceived risk of theft and alluded to the presence of drug issues. They did mention that when friends arrived, they stayed, and an interaction with a dog from another site was resolved by the owner.

In contrast, another reviewer offered a more positive perspective, noting that the campground is near the road but not in a busy area. They highlighted the presence of "plenty of camping spots" and a central toilet facility. Additionally, this reviewer mentioned a "cool abandoned building to explore," a "lovely river," and the "calling insects to help you sleep," suggesting a more natural and perhaps somewhat adventurous camping experience.

Considering these two reviews, the environment of Icehouse Campground appears to be somewhat rustic, with a river nearby and potentially interesting, albeit abandoned, structures. The natural soundscape of insects is also mentioned as a positive aspect for sleep. However, the significant concern raised by one reviewer regarding potentially problematic fellow campers and a lack of effective management intervention regarding long-term stays and potential theft is a serious factor that local users searching for "camping near me" should take into account.

When looking for "camping near me," safety and security are often primary considerations. The stark warning from one reviewer about not leaving belongings unattended due to the perceived risk from other campers should prompt potential visitors to be cautious and perhaps seek more information about the current management and typical camper demographics at Icehouse Campground.

The mention of a central toilet suggests a basic amenity, but other services such as water hookups, electrical connections, or shower facilities are not mentioned in these reviews. If these are important to your camping experience, you would need to seek additional information from other sources or perhaps from the local authorities or online camping forums that might have more details about Icehouse Campground.

For local users specifically searching for "camping near me" that offers a more secluded or perhaps even slightly adventurous feel, the description of the campground as having a "camper hidden way in the south end" and an "abandoned building to explore" might be appealing. The presence of a river is also generally a significant draw for campers, offering opportunities for activities like fishing, swimming, or simply enjoying the natural beauty.

However, the negative review casts a shadow over these potential positives. The feeling of unsafety due to "sketchy people" and the apparent lack of enforcement of stay limits are serious drawbacks. If you are considering Icehouse Campground based on your search for "camping near me," it would be wise to try and find more recent reviews or information to see if the issues raised have been addressed.

Promotional information is not available in the provided data, so we cannot comment on any specific offers or unique selling points highlighted by the campground itself. Our introduction is based solely on the experiences shared by these two reviewers.

In summary, Icehouse Campground in Klickitat, WA, appears to be a location with natural appeal, featuring a river and a somewhat secluded setting. It offers basic amenities like a central toilet and has some elements that might attract those looking for a more rustic or exploratory camping experience, such as an abandoned building. However, potential visitors should be aware of a concerning review that describes issues with other campers, perceived safety risks, and a lack of management intervention regarding long-term stays. Local users searching for "camping near me" should weigh these contrasting perspectives and consider seeking additional, more current information before deciding to camp at Icehouse Campground.

If you are prioritizing safety and a well-managed environment in your search for "camping near me," you might want to look for campgrounds with more consistently positive reviews regarding these aspects. However, if you are drawn to a more off-the-beaten-path experience and are comfortable with a potentially less regulated environment, Icehouse Campground might still be of interest, provided you take necessary precautions.

Given the limited and somewhat contradictory information, local users interested in "camping near me" should consider looking for additional reviews or information about Icehouse Campground on camping-specific websites or forums. This could provide a broader range of experiences and potentially more up-to-date insights into the current conditions and management of the campground.
