Elk River Campground Introduce
Looking for a "camping near me" experience along the scenic Oregon coast? Elk River Campground, situated at 93363 Elk River Rd, Port Orford, OR 97465, USA, offers a riverside location that has garnered both positive and concerning feedback from recent visitors. You can contact them at (541) 332-2255 or +1 541-332-2255 for inquiries and reservations. This introduction aims to provide an objective overview of the campground based on the available customer reviews, highlighting both its appealing aspects and areas of potential concern for local users.
One of the initially praised features of Elk River Campground is its "amazing price," suggesting it might be a budget-friendly option for those looking to explore the Port Orford area. The management was also described as "awesome" and "always around," indicating a visible and potentially responsive staff. Being a "family-run" establishment often contributes to a welcoming and personal atmosphere, which was echoed in the positive early experiences shared by a reviewer who found everyone at the park "super friendly." The surroundings were also lauded as "really gorgeous," and some sites offer the coveted experience of being "parked right by the river," enhancing the natural appeal of the location.
For practical needs, the campground reportedly has "laundry facilities," which one visitor used "frequently and without any issues." This amenity can be particularly valuable for longer stays or for travelers passing through who need to refresh their clothing. Additionally, Elk River Campground is noted to be "dog friendly," making it a viable option for those who travel with their canine companions. Its location is also convenient, being "right up the road from Cape Blanco State Park," a significant natural attraction in the area, as well as "Ray’s grocery store" and "a laundry mat," providing easy access to essential supplies and services.
However, more recent reviews paint a concerning picture of deteriorating conditions and management issues. One long-time visitor expressed that after their last visit, they "won't be back" due to how "bad things are." Specific complaints include the functionality of the bathroom facilities, with only "one stall in bathroom worked out of 3." This significant reduction in usable restrooms could lead to inconvenience and sanitation concerns for campers.
The laundry facilities, while previously reported as functioning well, are now described as having only "one washer and one dryer," which could lead to long wait times for users. The presence of "old clothes piled up on one of them" suggests a lack of maintenance or attention to cleanliness in this area.
Infrastructure issues are also a point of concern, with reviewers noting that "potholes are bigger than ever." Poor road conditions within the campground can be damaging to vehicles and detract from the overall experience of navigating the area.
Furthermore, there are reports of issues with pet control. Despite posted leash rules, one visitor recounted their leashed dog being rushed by two unleashed border collies belonging to the owners. When the leash rules were mentioned to the owners, they allegedly became "belligerent," indicating a potential lack of enforcement or disregard for campground rules regarding pets.
Access to natural amenities has also been affected, with a "path down to river closed due to downed trees." This restricts access to the very feature that makes the riverside campsites so appealing, limiting recreational opportunities for guests.
Finally, concerns have been raised about the availability of staff, with "office personnel only there minimal hours during week." While the reviewer acknowledged that the staff member does a "fine job," the limited availability could pose challenges for check-in, addressing issues, or obtaining assistance when needed.
In summary, Elk River Campground offers a potentially affordable riverside camping experience near Port Orford, Oregon, with proximity to Cape Blanco State Park and basic amenities like laundry facilities. It is also dog-friendly. However, recent feedback indicates significant deterioration in the campground's facilities, including limited functioning restrooms and laundry equipment, worsening road conditions, issues with loose dogs and rule enforcement, and restricted river access due to downed trees. Additionally, office hours appear to be limited. Local users searching for "camping near me" should carefully consider these recent negative reviews alongside the earlier positive feedback to make an informed decision about whether Elk River Campground meets their needs and expectations. It would be prudent to contact the campground directly to inquire about the current status of the facilities and any ongoing improvements or management changes before making a reservation or visiting.

Elk River Campground Reviews
This is a great place to stay at an amazing price! Management was awesome, and was always around. They were quick to fix any issues that came up and were so kind. It is family run and the surroundings are really gorgeous. We were parked right by the river. Everyone at the park was super friendly. We used the laundry facilities frequently and without any issues. There isn’t a lot of cell service, but we used our cell signal booster and had no issues! It’s right up the road from Cape Blanco State Park, Ray’s grocery store, and a laundry mat. It is dog friendly as well! I would definitely recommend this place to anyone passing through or looking to visit the area!
Aug 17, 2019 · Samantha FieldsThings are deteriorating here tremendously. Only one stall in bathroom worked out of 3. Laundry only has one washer and one dryer and old clothes are piled up on one of them.Potholes are bigger than ever. Dogs running loose daily. My dog was on leash and rushed by 2 border collies visiting the OWNERS. When I reminded them if leash rules posted they got belligerent.Path down to river closed due to downed trees.Office personnel only there minimal hours during week. He dies a fine job, but they need someone there more.I have visited here multiple times last few years. After last week seeing how bad things are, I won't be back.
Apr 06, 2023 · Debbie MayberryReally nice place to camp. Took our dog and tent and they let us camp pretty much anywhere. Friendly staff and residents. Very quiet. I slept really well. Pretty clean bathrooms/showers. We didn't get a chance to go to the river but heard it's nice down there. All of the other campground were full and I'm actually glad we stayed there and not some other place where you have to wait in line to use the shower and everyone's packed like sardines. This will be my new spot to camp when I come up here from now on!
Jul 24, 2017 · Katy JenningsWow, what a great place to hang your hat for a day or a year! Great Staff and Clean Hot Showers!!! Steve, Renee and Conrad will bend over backwards to make your stay memorable. We liked it so much we decided to stay permanent!!! Tom and Aryn
Feb 15, 2018 · Tom SevierGreat location for the Campground right next to the river out in the countryside. Each pitch is relatively small but well screened from the next one. Full hook ups are available and the site manager was most helpful and friendly. We were touring but looks like most vans were long term stayers.
