Enfield / Rocky Mount KOA Journey Introduce
Looking for "camping near me" in the Enfield or Rocky Mount, North Carolina area? The Enfield / Rocky Mount KOA Journey, situated at 18562 NC-481, Enfield, NC 27823, offers a location with easy access to I-95, making it a potential stopover for travelers and perhaps a convenient option for local campers as well. Based on recent customer reviews, the experience here has both positives and negatives, particularly concerning noise levels for tent campers and the level of amenities. Let's delve into what this KOA Journey campground might offer.
The Environment: Conveniently Located, but with Noise Considerations
One of the primary environmental factors highlighted in the reviews is the campground's proximity to I-95. While one reviewer noted this as "easily located by 95," they also pointed out that this isn't ideal for tent campers, as the tent sites are situated at the front of the campground, resulting in noticeable traffic noise. This camper found it necessary to use white noise to fall asleep. In contrast, another reviewer, who stayed in a pull-through site, mentioned that despite being less than 5 minutes from the expressway, it was "very quiet" and they "couldn't hear the traffic at all." This suggests that the noise level might vary significantly depending on the campsite location within the campground. For local users considering tent camping and seeking "camping near me," the potential for highway noise at the front of the Enfield / Rocky Mount KOA Journey is an important environmental factor to be aware of.
The campground also features a volleyball area and a children's playground, suggesting some recreational space. There are "quite a few camping sites for trailers with electric and water," indicating suitability for RV campers. The presence of picnic tables (undercover at some tent sites) and a hydrant in the tent area adds to the convenience for campers.
Services and Amenities: Laundry, Playground, but Potentially Limited Staffing
The Enfield / Rocky Mount KOA Journey offers a 24-hour laundry room, which was described as "easily accessible," "well maintained," and "reasonably priced." This is a significant amenity, especially for longer stays or those needing to refresh during their travels. A children's playground and a volleyball area are also available, providing recreational options for families and other guests.
However, one reviewer found the campground "a bit rustic for KOA" with "limited amenities" and reported "no staff at all" during their Saturday evening and Sunday morning stay. They noted that the office was closed on Saturday evening with no after-hours contact information and was also closed on Sundays. This could be a concern for late arrivals or those needing assistance outside of office hours. While they did find an envelope with their reservation details, the lack of staff interaction might be a drawback for some who expect more service from a KOA campground.
The restrooms are mentioned as "clean" and requiring an access code, which suggests a focus on security and maintenance. Interestingly, one review noted that the "beautiful pool was not open" due to circumstances beyond their control, but it was hoped to be open soon. The availability of 10 tent sites with picnic tables and a hydrant is also a specific service/amenity detail provided.
Features: Convenient Location, Laundry, and Recreational Areas
A key feature of this KOA Journey is its convenient location right off I-95, making it an easily accessible stop for travelers. The availability of a 24-hour laundry facility is a notable feature that adds practicality to a stay here. The presence of a children's playground and a volleyball area offers on-site recreational opportunities. The campground also caters to both tent and RV campers, with dedicated tent sites (though potentially noisy) and numerous trailer sites with electric and water hookups.
The clean restrooms with an access code provide a sense of security and hygiene. While the pool was temporarily closed at the time of one review, its presence suggests an additional amenity for warmer months. The pull-through sites, though described as unlevel by one reviewer, offer convenience for overnight RV stops.
However, the potential lack of on-site staff outside of office hours and the highway noise affecting tent sites at the front are features that might deter some local users seeking a more traditional or quieter "camping near me" experience.
Promotional Information: A Convenient Stop with Varied Experiences

The level of on-site staff and the availability of amenities like the pool might vary.

Enfield / Rocky Mount KOA Journey Reviews
This is a nice campground easily located by 95 but that isn't great if you are tenting. The tent sites are located in the front of the campground and you hear the traffic noise. When we went to bed we played noise on our phone at full blast to try to drown out the noise from 95. Eventually we were able to go to sleep. The 24-hour laundry room was easily accessible while maintained and reasonably priced. Unfortunately the beautiful pool was not open due to some circumstances beyond their control, but hopefully should be open soon. The 10 sites are actually pretty nice and have picnic tables undercover and a hydrant in the middle of the temp sites. There's also a nice volleyball area and children's playground. They're quite a few camping sites for trailers with electric and water. The restrooms are clean and have an access code.
Jun 16, 2023 · Judy KellerVery convenient to I-95. A bit rustic for KOA, limited amenities and no staff at all. We called at 5:15 on a Saturday to advise that we would be arriving late and the office was closed with a simple message that we should call back during office hours. No after-hours contact or ability to leave a message. Closed on Sundays. We had made our reservation on the KOA app the same day we arrived and luckily there was an envelope with our name on it at the office when we arrived around 8pm. Simple pull-through site was unlevel and grass/gravel but did the trick for a one-night stopover. Dumped tanks and headed out around 10am the next day. Never saw any staff; was pretty empty on the weekend. Doubt anyone comes here except I-95 travelers stopping over (there were a few older trailers that appeared to be full time / long term residents in the back). It is less than 5 minutes from the expressway but very quiet. Couldn't hear the traffic at all. Definitely would consider as a stopover in the future. Halfway between NY/NJ and Florida so convenient for that.
Apr 18, 2024 · Tres WilliamsVery accommodating as we were having truck issues on our way to Florida. They let us add nights as we were getting our truck fixed. We’ve stayed here in the past and we’ll be back again. It’s nice that it’s not right next to I-95. No traffic noise. Quiet area.
Feb 12, 2025 · Linda VromanWe were just passing through. It was a during a heat wave and all I could think about was cooling off in the pool. It was pricey for a campground with basically no amenities. The pool was closed all day. Even the office was closed all day. Our check in info was in an envelope tacked up outside the office door. We don’t have kids so the playground didn’t interest us. The bathroom was clean and suitable. But the campsites were close together and we ended up just sitting inside our camper with the ac on from when we arrived until we left. Way too expensive for essentially a place to park. Usually KOA campgrounds have amenities. This one was a disappointment.
Jul 12, 2024 · Karen LandonThis campground is upgrading so many features it is so great to see this small business occupy such a small rural town. It would be awesome if some Internet giant would provide much needed internet and cable service. This is a wonderful campground to get away from the hustle of the city! Staff is very friendly, especially the owner and as a woman, I am so proud that this "woman owned" business is a refreshing change of pace. Stacey Ashwood, husband Richard, father Mike are wonderful, courteous and very informative. Helpful as they can be, helping so many during the hurricane and storms, offering a refuge until so many could get back to their homes. Pet friendly, and happy to provide a home away from home. The grounds are clean and wonderfully kept, grass mowed and bathroom & showers are clean. Holidays and/or other special occasions are celebrated throughout the campground and no one is a stranger! Love this place!!!
