Fish Creek Pond Campground

Adirondack Park, Saranac Lake, NY 12983, USA

4.0
Camped here in a 39 foot clase A at site number 193. We were able to pull in on a level site with our front window looking out to the lake. Very nice!. Sites number 160 through 200 are first come first serve. We had reserved site number 38 that was very sloped and muddy. They let us choose a first come first serve site which worked out great. No electric, water was close enough that we could fill our tank with several sections of hose. Will definitely stay here again.Hiking, mountain biking, kayaking all available. - Mark Mikesch

Fish Creek Pond Campground Introduce

For local residents seeking an exceptional 'camping near me' experience nestled in the heart of the Adirondack Park, Fish Creek Pond Campground, located near Saranac Lake, NY 12983, offers a truly remarkable setting. This campground is renowned for its stunning waterfront campsites and access to a variety of outdoor recreational activities, making it a prime destination for those looking to immerse themselves in the natural beauty of upstate New York.

As a highly sought-after location in the 'camping near me' category, Fish Creek Pond Campground has garnered positive feedback from visitors who have experienced its unique charm. One camper, traveling in a 39-foot Class A RV, highlighted the availability of level pull-in sites, specifically mentioning site number 193 with a picturesque lakefront view. This indicates that the campground can accommodate larger RVs on certain sites, which is valuable information for local RV owners seeking a scenic getaway.

The same reviewer also noted the presence of a first-come, first-served section for sites numbered 160 through 200. This provides flexibility for campers who may not have reservations or who might want to explore available options upon arrival. Their personal experience of being able to switch from a pre-reserved sloped and muddy site (number 38) to a suitable first-come, first-served site demonstrates the potential for accommodating staff and the variety of campsite conditions within the campground.

While the review mentioned the absence of electric hookups at the site they occupied, the proximity of water access allowed them to fill their RV tank using multiple sections of hose. This suggests that while some sites may be more rustic in terms of utilities, essential resources like water are generally accessible. This is an important consideration for local campers planning their stay and packing accordingly.

A significant draw of Fish Creek Pond Campground is the abundance of outdoor activities available directly from the campground. As one review succinctly stated, "Hiking, mountain biking, kayaking all available." This makes it an ideal location for active local users who enjoy exploring nature through various means. The surrounding Adirondack wilderness offers extensive hiking and mountain biking trails, catering to different skill levels and preferences. The direct access to Fish Creek Pond itself provides ample opportunities for kayaking and other water-based activities, allowing campers to fully enjoy the pristine lake environment.

Another enthusiastic review emphasized the exceptional location of the campsites, stating, "VERY NICE CAMPGROUND! Almost every site is on the water." This is a significant advantage for those seeking a truly immersive lakeside camping experience. Waking up to the sounds of the water and enjoying direct access for swimming, fishing, or simply relaxing by the shore are major appeals of this campground. The prevalence of waterfront sites enhances the overall ambiance and provides stunning views for many campers.

However, the same reviewer also pointed out a potential drawback: "The only set back is the sites are close together." This is an important consideration for local users who prioritize privacy and space between campsites. While the proximity to the water is a major positive, campers should be aware that the layout might not offer extensive separation from their neighbors. This is a common trade-off in popular waterfront campgrounds where maximizing the number of lakeside sites is often a priority.

To provide a comprehensive overview for local users in the 'camping near me' category, Fish Creek Pond Campground offers:

  • Stunning Waterfront Campsites: With a high percentage of sites located directly on the water.

  • Water Access: Generally available for filling tanks, even on sites without direct hookups.
  • Direct Access to Outdoor Activities: Including hiking, mountain biking, and kayaking.
  • Beautiful Adirondack Setting: Immersed in the natural beauty of the Adirondack Park.
  • Potential for Scenic Views: Especially from the waterfront campsites.

Potential drawbacks to consider:

  • Limited Privacy: Campsites are noted to be close together.

  • Variable Site Conditions: Some reserved sites may be sloped or muddy, necessitating a willingness to explore other options if available.

As no specific promotional information was included in the provided reviews, local users are encouraged to visit the official New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) website, as Fish Creek Pond Campground is a DEC-managed facility. The DEC website is the primary source for information on reservations, fees, specific campsite details (including hookups and size limitations), rules and regulations, and any current advisories or closures. Local users can typically make reservations online through the DEC's reservation system, which allows them to view campsite maps and availability.

When making reservations, local campers should consider the type of camping they plan to do (tent, RV, etc.) and review the campsite details to ensure it meets their needs regarding size, slope, and available utilities. If waterfront access is a priority, the campsite map can be invaluable in selecting a suitable location. It's also wise to be aware of the first-come, first-served section as a potential alternative if initial reservations are not ideal or if spontaneous trips are planned.

In conclusion, Fish Creek Pond Campground stands out as a premier 'camping near me' destination for local residents seeking a waterfront experience in the Adirondacks. Its beautiful lakeside setting and direct access to hiking, biking, and kayaking make it a haven for outdoor enthusiasts. While the proximity of campsites might be a consideration for some, the overall beauty and recreational opportunities offered by Fish Creek Pond Campground make it a highly recommended choice for a memorable local camping adventure. Be sure to check the DEC website for the most up-to-date information and to make reservations in advance, especially during peak season, as this popular campground tends to fill up quickly.
