FISH LAKE CAMPGROUND Introduce
For local outdoor enthusiasts seeking a "camping near me" experience that emphasizes natural beauty and recreational opportunities away from the hustle and bustle, FISH LAKE CAMPGROUND, located off Bluff Creek Trail in Orleans, CA 95556, offers an inland retreat centered around its namesake lake. Accessible by phone at (541) 618-2200 or +1 541-618-2200, this campground presents a budget-friendly option for those looking to immerse themselves in the scenic landscapes of Northern California, with a focus on fishing and canoeing.
The environment of FISH LAKE CAMPGROUND is frequently described as beautiful and spacious, offering a sense of tranquility and connection with nature. The presence of the lake itself is a significant bonus, providing opportunities for various water-based activities. While one reviewer noted that the lake appeared heavily vegetated and not ideal for swimming, it was highlighted as an excellent spot for canoeing, allowing campers to explore the calm waters and enjoy the surrounding scenery from a unique perspective. The campground is also characterized by its bushy surroundings, which, while contributing to the natural ambiance, may require campers to be more vigilant regarding potential wildlife encounters, particularly bears.
In terms of services, FISH LAKE CAMPGROUND offers some essential amenities while also having certain limitations that local users should be aware of. A significant advantage noted by multiple reviewers is the presence of clean vault toilets. Additionally, the availability of water within the campground is considered a bonus, providing a necessary resource for campers. Parking appears to be generally good, although one reviewer mentioned that the quality of the parking spot can vary depending on the specific campsite section. However, it's important to note that the campground does not offer showers or bear boxes at each campsite. This necessitates that campers take personal responsibility for food storage and hygiene, as highlighted in the user reviews.
A key feature of FISH LAKE CAMPGROUND is its access to fishing in Fish Lake. One reviewer mentioned that their companion caught their limit, indicating that the lake does support a fish population, although it is described as heavily fished, suggesting that larger fish may be less common. For local anglers seeking a convenient fishing spot in a natural setting, Fish Lake could be an appealing option. Furthermore, the opportunity for canoeing on the lake provides a unique recreational activity that sets this campground apart. The spaciousness of the campsites, as noted by reviewers, allows for a comfortable setup and a greater sense of privacy compared to more crowded campgrounds. The affordability of the campground is also a significant feature, making it an attractive option for budget-conscious campers.
However, there are several important considerations for local users planning a trip to FISH LAKE CAMPGROUND. A significant drawback mentioned by all reviewers is the lack of cell phone signal. This remoteness can enhance the feeling of escape and immersion in nature but also necessitates that campers be prepared for communication limitations in case of emergencies. The bushy environment, while aesthetically pleasing, raises concerns about potential bear encounters, especially if food is not stored properly. The absence of bear boxes at campsites means campers must be proactive in bringing their own bear-proof coolers or employing proper food hanging techniques to ensure safety. The lack of showers is another factor to consider, requiring campers to either embrace a more rustic experience or bring their own portable shower setups and privacy tents.
One reviewer's experience highlighted the importance of timing and preparedness. While a weekend visit felt safe due to the presence of other campers, the campground felt "desolate and especially creepy" once the crowds dispersed, compounded by the lack of cell signal. This underscores the importance of being self-sufficient and prepared for a more isolated experience, particularly during weekdays or the off-season. The same reviewer also noted instances of other campers being careless with food storage, potentially attracting bears, reinforcing the need for individual responsibility in maintaining a safe environment for everyone.
Another crucial piece of advice from a reviewer is to bring insect repellent, as mosquitos are reported to be prevalent at Fish Lake Campground. This is a practical consideration for ensuring a comfortable stay, especially during warmer months.
Currently, no specific promotional information or discounts for local users are mentioned in the provided reviews. Individuals interested in camping at FISH LAKE CAMPGROUND are advised to contact the provided phone numbers to inquire about reservation procedures, current rates, and any potential seasonal offers or local discounts that may be available. Given the positive aspects of the campground, such as its beauty, affordability, and recreational opportunities, it is likely a popular destination, and reservations, especially for desirable campsites, are recommended.
In conclusion, FISH LAKE CAMPGROUND offers a beautiful and inexpensive "camping near me" option for local residents seeking a more remote and nature-focused experience near Orleans, CA. Its highlights include spacious campsites, the opportunity for fishing and canoeing on Fish Lake, and clean toilet facilities. However, campers must be prepared for the lack of cell service, the bushy environment and potential for bears (requiring proper food storage), and the absence of showers and bear boxes at each site. By being well-prepared with insect repellent, considering bringing a bear-proof cooler or food hanging equipment, and potentially a portable shower setup, local users can enjoy the natural beauty and recreational activities that FISH LAKE CAMPGROUND has to offer.

FISH LAKE CAMPGROUND Reviews
Decent spot to camp with several excellent sites and some bad sites that look like they tried to squeeze in. Recommend reservations normally to get a good spot. I didn't fish but my buddy caught his limit. Heavily fished so I doubt there are any big fish here.
Aug 11, 2020 · Ron MacairePros:• spacious•beautiful• inexpensive•water is a bonus• great parking spot (depends on the section)• clean toiletsCons:• no cell signal• bushy (bad for possible bears)•vault toilets• no bear box• no showersWhen my husband and I went to visit this July 2020, it was a weekend and there were lots of people around, so it felt safe. However, once everyone left, it felt pretty desolate and specially creepy without cell signal. Also, bears might go there because we noticed some people were not careful with their food and some left food out on their tables at night. If you want to be safe, bring your own bear proof cooler, or hang your food. Also there’s no showers, so we suggest bringing a privacy or shower tent. To prevent COVID 19 exposure, we brought our own toilet and used the privacy tent for that, but the restrooms were pretty clean. If you decide to go for this option, PLEASE make sure to dispose of your waste appropriately. Don’t ruin it for the rest of us.About the lake, we didn’t get in because it didn’t seem a good place to swim in as there were a lot of plants that made it look inaccessible, however, the place was excellent for canoeing. There are a lot of mosquitos. Bring bug repellent!
Aug 01, 2020 · pinguinitacoriNice campgrounds out there on our moto trip a few years back... lake was nice to walk around and view wildlife and others enjoying the water. Less bugs than I thought there would be at our site, but still some. Was quiet and campers were spread around.
Apr 28, 2021 · TWiGs ADV - Keep Off The Pavement (Chris)It seemed like if you were to cast a line 100 times you’d pull up about 60 fish. Crazy catching. Mostly trout and blue gill (small). Peaceful. No electric. Vault toilets throughout the park. Mosquitos were very thick and were everywhere, as were the yellow jackets. Most all the sites are extremely in-level. Difficult to pitch a tent, sleep, or sit in a chair because you’re almost never level. A few sites looked okay. Many sites are smaller and can’t take large tents. Knowing all that in advance, if it doesn’t bother you, you’ll have a great time. It’s not a 5-star resort, nor does it pretend to be. It’s a lake, with tons of fish. Enjoy.
Sep 04, 2019 · David GoodGood price and beautiful lake! Lots of mosquitos so bring lots of repellant. Trail is not in good shape for hiking. Very far away from redwoods if that is what brings you to the area. It took us about 1 1/2 hours from the campsite to the park on a windy road, partially unpaved. But if you have the patience and gas, it is worth it for the view you get.
