Fish Trap Park Introduce
Nestled in the scenic landscapes of Ellijay, Georgia, Fish Trap Park presents a unique camping experience for local outdoor enthusiasts. Situated at 31 Goblet Ct, Ellijay, GA 30540, USA, this campground offers a blend of natural beauty and certain limitations that potential visitors should be aware of. For those searching for "camping near me" in the Ellijay area, Fish Trap Park warrants consideration, keeping in mind the specific characteristics highlighted by previous visitors.
Environment and Location: Fish Trap Park boasts a truly remarkable natural setting. As noted by campers, the campground provides direct access to a river, offering opportunities for waterside relaxation and enjoyment. The presence of abundant wildlife, particularly deer roaming freely throughout the park, adds to the natural charm and provides memorable wildlife viewing experiences. However, the internal roads within the campground are reported to be narrow and winding, requiring careful navigation upon entry. Additionally, the presence of deer frequently crossing the roads necessitates heightened caution while driving within the premises.
Access and Entry: It is crucial to understand that Fish Trap Park operates as a private community. Access to the campground is restricted, and visitors will likely need prior acquaintance with a homeowner or resident to obtain the necessary gate code for entry. This private nature distinguishes it from publicly accessible campgrounds and should be a primary consideration for those planning a visit through the "camping near me" search category.
Amenities and Services: Based on recent feedback, the amenities at Fish Trap Park appear to be somewhat limited and potentially in need of updates. While one review mentions the presence of "full amenities, including vending machines," another highlights significant restrictions. Specifically, long-term guests (staying for two weeks at a reported cost of $550) have mentioned a lack of access to the pool without a guest pass or accompaniment by a homeowner. This suggests that certain amenities might be exclusive to residents or require specific conditions for guest use. Furthermore, concerns have been raised regarding the condition of the facilities, with one reviewer noting the absence of hot water in the ladies' restroom showers and the need for repairs to steps leading to the bathroom, where an accident reportedly occurred.
On a more positive note regarding communal facilities, Fish Trap Park features a large pavilion and a substantial smoker, suggesting the potential for hosting gatherings, parties, or group camping events. These facilities could be a significant draw for local groups or families looking for a space to celebrate or camp together. The mention of regular patrols within the campground also indicates a focus on security and the well-being of guests' belongings.
Safety Considerations: In addition to the narrow and winding roads and the presence of roaming deer, one review explicitly labels the location as "a bear location," emphasizing the importance of practicing bear safety precautions. Local campers should be aware of this and take necessary steps to secure food and belongings to avoid attracting wildlife. The reported accident on the steps leading to the bathroom also underscores the need for caution and awareness of potential hazards within the campground.
Promotional Information and Local Appeal: While direct promotional offers are not available in the provided information, Fish Trap Park's unique attributes could appeal to specific segments of the local camping community. The riverfront access is a significant draw for those who enjoy fishing, kayaking, or simply relaxing by the water. The abundance of wildlife offers a nature-rich experience for wildlife enthusiasts. The presence of a large pavilion and smoker makes it a potential venue for group camping trips, family reunions, or local gatherings seeking an outdoor setting. However, prospective local users should weigh these positives against the reported limitations in amenities and the private access nature of the park.
For local residents in Ellijay and the surrounding areas searching for "camping near me," Fish Trap Park presents a mixed picture. Its beautiful natural environment, river access, and potential for group events are appealing. However, the restricted access, reported limitations and conditions on amenity use (particularly the pool), and concerns about facility maintenance are crucial factors to consider. It is recommended that interested local campers attempt to gather the most current information regarding access policies, amenity availability, and any recent updates to the campground facilities by contacting the provided phone number, (706) 640-4010 or +1 706-640-4010.
In conclusion, Fish Trap Park offers a unique, albeit potentially restricted, camping experience in a picturesque natural setting near Ellijay. Local users searching for "camping near me" should carefully consider the balance of its natural attractions and communal facilities against the reported limitations and private access requirements to determine if it aligns with their camping needs and expectations.

Fish Trap Park Reviews
Fish Trap Park is a beautiful campground but could use a little updating. The downside of staying here is getting no amenities. If your paying $550 for 2 wks then you should atleast be able to use the pool. To swim you will need to have a guest pass or come with a homeowner. The ladies restroom has no hot water for showering. The steps needs fixing heading up to the bathroom (someone fell & ambulance come) On a positive note, you walk out the door and you are on the river and get to see lots of deer roaming the place. Be careful when you enter the gates bc the roads are so narrow and tons of curves. Deer just walk out in front of you also. Its not a public place. You will have to know someone in here to get a gate code for entry. They also patrol several times daily in the campground and noone bothers your things. There is a huge pavilion and a big smoker for throwing party's.
Jul 20, 2021 · angel johnsonLovely little park with full amenities, including vending machines. This is a bear location so be cautious.
Dec 31, 2024 · Daniel SkeltonGreat spot. It was incredibly beautiful and kept up with a nice new playground for the little ones. Security is lacking, and if you have a rude neighbor, good luck. The bathrooms are in severe need of an update.
Jul 03, 2023 · Sean RossWe've been going to the park for over a decade. Over the years there have been many changes in the management. This year, once again there were issues with the women's bathroom and trash pickup. Our host had to call and get the problems solved. The park is beautiful and the campsites are very good and level.
