However, one reviewer did point out a potential downside: the proximity of some campsites. Specifically, they mentioned that on site #84, the neighboring sites with large groups in RVs and tents felt too close, with one tent almost touching their RV. This suggests that while the campground is large, some individual sites might offer less privacy than others. The reviewer did note that the "outer line sites seems relatively spacious" and that the "north loops are easier for big rigs," providing valuable information for those with larger RVs or those prioritizing more space between campsites. This feedback indicates that when making reservations, it might be beneficial to inquire about the spacing and layout of specific sites, especially if traveling with a large RV or seeking more privacy.
The fact that the campground has "many loops" implies a significant number of campsites, catering to a large volume of visitors. This popularity is further evidenced by the positive reviews, suggesting that Fort Stevens State Park Campground is a sought-after destination, especially during peak seasons. Therefore, making reservations well in advance is likely advisable, particularly for specific site preferences or during holidays and weekends, to secure a spot at this highly recommended "camping near me" location.

While some campsites might be closer together than others, the overall spaciousness of the park, particularly the outer loop sites and north loops for larger RVs, provides options for different preferences. Apr 15, 2025 · Jaimi StewartVery big state park campground, very clean and well maintained. Really loved the paved trails around it for biking and hiking. The views of the Pacific Ocean are so beautiful especially the sunset, unforgettable. Had strong cellphone signal with T-Mobile. The only downside is that some sites are too close to each other. We had site #84, the 2 sites on each side have big group with RV and tents, one tent almost touched our RV. The campground has many loops, north loops are easier for big rigs, the outer line sites seems relatively spacious. This is one of the best state parks we have stayed in our more than 15 years traveling experience, the rangers are very friendly and supportive.
May 18, 2023 · Xiaohong D.We absolutely love this park. Was our first visit, and we are hooked. The access to a lake and a beach on one road is pretty awesome! The bike rentals are completely worth it. The trails were extensive. The site was large and made our experience just fantastic! Will absolutely return to camp again!
Sep 04, 2024 · Lisa DalbecAlways an amazing place to stay and also Camp Host too! Everything you need to enjoy time with the family or even as a solo traveler. The beach, lakes, forest, trails, biking paths, mushroom picking, and more. There is also a battery and another historical area.
May 01, 2024 · Sarah ChapmanFort Stephens State Park is a grand historical campground that has kept with the outdoorsy feel even during these modern times. Campgrounds are always clean and kept by park hosts between visitors. The ranger station has plenty of information about the area so don't hesitate to ask any questions you may have about the Fort. There are daily events at the amphitheater that will help connect you to the outdoor, the Oregon coast and of course Fort Stephens itself. There are many historical buildings around the fort, including Battery Russell which was historic heavy gun battery setup to protect the inlet of the Columbia River during WWII.Many bike paths and trails to walk and explore. You will remember your experience at Fort Stephens for a lifetime!
