Fox's Den Campground Introduce
For local users seeking "camping near me" with the unique experience of an island getaway, Fox's Den Campground, located at 140 Conlan Rd, Put-In-Bay, OH 43456, presents a location that offers a blend of peaceful surroundings and convenient access to the vibrant activities of Put-In-Bay. Based on recent customer feedback, the campground itself boasts appealing features, but potential visitors should also be aware of some reported challenges related to fellow campers.
One long-time visitor, who has been staying at Fox's Den Campground for many years, highlights a significant advantage: its strategic location. The campground is described as being "far enough away from downtown for a peaceful stay, yet close enough to enjoy all the activities on the island." This balance is ideal for those who want to experience the lively attractions of Put-In-Bay without being constantly immersed in the hustle and bustle. After a day of exploration and entertainment, campers can retreat to the relative tranquility of Fox's Den.
This same reviewer also points out that the campsites have undergone "recent upgrades to both electric and water" hookups. This is a valuable feature for RV and tent campers alike, ensuring reliable access to essential utilities and enhancing the comfort and convenience of their stay. Upgraded infrastructure suggests that the campground management is investing in maintaining and improving the facilities for their guests.
Another reviewer offers a more nuanced perspective, initially describing the campground as "wonderful" with "nice" workers and "pretty" land, making it a generally "good place to camp." This positive initial assessment suggests that the physical environment and the staff contribute to a pleasant camping experience. However, this reviewer then raises a serious concern regarding interactions with other campers.
According to this review, their family experienced harassment from other campers, particularly when returning from the showers. They reported being "talked down to by intoxicated campers at 11 pm," which is clearly unacceptable behavior in a family-oriented establishment. This issue apparently persisted, as the reviewer also recounts being accosted by drunk individuals in the middle of the gravel road while driving back into the campground after getting food. These individuals allegedly told the reviewer to slow down, despite the family traveling at a very slow 3 mph, and even approached and touched their truck. This type of behavior significantly detracted from the family's expectation of a "quiet peaceful stay."
Despite these negative interactions with other campers, the reviewer gives the campground itself a "5-star" rating, explicitly stating, "Without a doubt." This strong endorsement of the campground's inherent qualities – the land, the facilities (presumably including the upgraded utilities), and potentially the layout – is noteworthy. However, the reviewer immediately follows this with the caveat that "the campers in the campground is another story," indicating a significant disconnect between the quality of the physical establishment and the behavior of some of its patrons.
The reviewer also mentions being instructed to adhere to a strict 5 mph speed limit throughout the grounds, which they state they followed diligently. The subsequent encounter with intoxicated campers aggressively enforcing an even lower speed limit highlights a potential issue with inconsistent expectations or a lack of respectful behavior among some guests. The reviewer concludes by stating their intention to contact the owners to report these incidents, expressing their belief that the owners would not want such behavior in their "FAMILY establishment." This underscores the potential for a mismatch between the campground's intended atmosphere and the actual experiences of some visitors due to the actions of others.
Based on these reviews, Fox's Den Campground offers a compelling location on Put-In-Bay, providing a peaceful retreat that is still conveniently close to the island's attractions. The recent upgrades to electric and water hookups are a significant benefit. The land is described as pretty, and the staff as nice, contributing to a potentially wonderful camping experience. However, prospective local users must be aware of the serious concerns raised by one reviewer regarding harassment and unwelcome behavior from intoxicated fellow campers. While this may not be a universal experience, it is a significant issue that potential visitors should consider.
The mention of a strict 5 mph speed limit suggests that the campground management aims to maintain a safe and orderly environment. However, the incident reported by the reviewer indicates that this may not always be respected or consistently enforced by all campers. Local users seeking a guaranteed peaceful and respectful environment may want to inquire with the owners about their policies and procedures for addressing disruptive behavior.
To gain a more comprehensive understanding of the current environment, services, and any specific rules or guidelines in place to ensure a positive experience for all guests, local users are strongly encouraged to contact Fox's Den Campground directly at (419) 285-5001 or their mobile number +1 419-285-5001. Speaking with the owners or staff will allow you to inquire about their policies regarding guest conduct, security measures, and any other amenities or services offered beyond the upgraded utilities. It would also be prudent to ask if they have received similar feedback regarding camper behavior and how they address such issues to maintain a family-friendly atmosphere.
In conclusion, Fox's Den Campground offers a potentially excellent camping location on Put-In-Bay, balancing tranquility with accessibility to island activities and featuring recently upgraded utilities. The positive remarks about the campground's inherent qualities and the staff are encouraging. However, the serious allegations of harassment and unwelcome behavior from other campers warrant careful consideration by local users. While the campground itself may be deserving of a high rating, the overall experience can be significantly impacted by the actions of other guests. Direct communication with the owners is crucial to ascertain the current environment and ensure it aligns with your expectations for a peaceful and respectful camping getaway.

Jan 25, 2023 · dave wThe campground is wonderful. The workers are nice. The land is pretty. Its a good place to camp...unless you are not from the area. We were harassed by the other campers there coming back from the showers. My family and i do not appreciate being talked down to by intoxicated campers at 11pm. Then again coming back in the campground from going to get food. We were told to go 5mph through the grounds at all times. Which we obeyed the entire time we stayed. We came in and drunk people in the middle of the gravel road telling us to slow down when we were going 3mph!!!!!. Running up on the truck and touching it....that is NOT what a family campground should be about...we came for a quiet peacful stay, but due to other campers it was just the opposite....i rate the campground itself 5star! Without a doubt. But the campers in the campground is another story....and i will be calling and mentioning this to the owners as soon as i can. Im sure they do not want people like that in their FAMILY establishment
Aug 28, 2016 · nizzy assentiHad some friends who invited us to stay with them after missing the ferry back to the main land , had camping gear with us just in case ,had been biking all day long , appreciated the invite but didn't care for thieves to take off with most of our gear and our two expensive bikes that were lovingly taken care of stolen and tent and gear either trashed, burnt, or stolen, tried to get the people that run the place to call police but had to walk to phone and wait for a long time, took report but never heard back from them, will never return.
Aug 17, 2017 · BRUCE DavenportThe Restrooms are decent for the most part and they have a keypad code entry on them. They also have a coin operated laundry area.
May 24, 2019 · Kimberly AdamsBeautiful campground with facilities. The owner let us put a tent there since we didn't reserve a spot at the state park.
