Fransted Family Campground & RV Park Introduce
For local residents in New Hampshire and surrounding areas seeking a memorable "camping near me" experience in the heart of the White Mountains, Fransted Family Campground & RV Park, located at 974 Profile Rd in Franconia, NH, offers a delightful retreat for families, couples, and solo adventurers alike. Situated in a beautiful and convenient location, Fransted provides a range of camping options and access to both natural exploration and nearby town amenities, making it an attractive destination for various camping preferences.
A Beautiful and Quiet Environment:
Fransted Family Campground is consistently praised for its beautiful and quiet atmosphere. Nestled in the scenic surroundings of Franconia, it offers a tranquil escape from the everyday. The campground boasts a picturesque setting, with some campsites offering a sense of privacy and ample space, even for large tents. The presence of a short campground hiking trail along the river further enhances the natural appeal, providing opportunities for leisurely strolls and connecting to a more extensive network of trails through the woods, perfect for exploring the local flora and fauna.
Diverse Camping Options: Tent and RV Sites:
Fransted caters to a variety of camping styles. For tent campers, the campground offers premium tent sites that are described as spacious and private, comfortably accommodating large tents and multiple people. For those traveling with recreational vehicles, Fransted provides RV sites, some of which are pull-through, offering the convenience of full hookups (though this is implied rather than explicitly stated in the reviews). While one reviewer noted that a particular site (#4) was smaller but adequate for a 19' camper, the general consensus suggests that many sites are well-spaced, offering a comfortable camping experience for different sizes of RVs and tents.
On-Site Hiking and Exploration:
A notable feature of Fransted is its on-site hiking trail that runs along the river. This short trail provides a pleasant opportunity for a quick nature walk within the campground itself. More significantly, this trail connects to a lovely network of other trails through the surrounding woods, opening up a wider range of exploration possibilities for those who enjoy hiking and immersing themselves in the natural landscape of the White Mountains region.
Convenient Access to Local Amenities:
Fransted's location strikes a balance between natural seclusion and convenient access to nearby amenities. The town of Littleton, NH, is just a short 10-minute drive from the campground. Littleton offers a charming and beautiful setting where campers can find necessities such as groceries and other supplies. Additionally, it provides opportunities to enjoy local shops and restaurants, offering a break from camp cooking and a chance to experience the local culture.
Gateway to the White Mountains:
For those looking to explore the majestic White Mountains, Fransted's location is highly advantageous. The campground is a short drive from the mountains, making it an ideal basecamp for embarking on longer and more challenging hikes within this renowned mountain range. This proximity allows campers to easily access the numerous trails, scenic vistas, and natural attractions that the White Mountains have to offer.
Clean and Well-Maintained Facilities:
The campground is generally described as well-maintained and clean, contributing to a positive guest experience. While one reviewer mentioned that the bathrooms might be considered "dated" by some, they were consistently noted as clean and providing the essentials. The shower rooms were also reported to be clean with good hot water, an important amenity for campers. This focus on cleanliness and maintenance ensures a comfortable and hygienic stay for all guests.
Easy Access from Interstate 93:
Fransted's location right off Interstate 93 provides excellent accessibility for travelers. This ease of access makes it a convenient stop for those passing through the region or a straightforward destination for local residents. The proximity to the highway, however, does come with a minor drawback, as some guests have noted distant noise from the highway late at night, although it was generally not disruptive enough to cause sleep issues.
Considerations for Your Stay:
While the overall experience at Fransted is positive, a few points from the reviews are worth noting for potential visitors:
- Firewood Pricing: Firewood was mentioned as being a bit pricey at $9 a bundle and could take a little effort to light. Campers might want to factor this into their budget or consider bringing their own firewood if permitted and sourced locally to prevent the spread of invasive species.
- Office Hours: The office may not always be staffed during the middle of the day. Campers should plan accordingly for check-in and any inquiries they might have.
- Bathroom Maintenance: One reviewer noted a temporary issue with sink drainage in the ladies' bathroom towards the end of the season, which was reportedly addressed quickly. While generally clean, facilities may show some signs of age.
- Site Selection: For those in larger RVs or who prefer more space and a location further from the office, sites down near the back of the campground, such as 25a, 25, or 26, were recommended by one reviewer.

Fransted Family Campground & RV Park Reviews
We love our annual camping trips at Fransted. We always book a two-night stay at a premium tent site, and find we have plenty of space (we have a large 8-person tent and could fit another large tent if needed) and plenty privacy for our family of four people plus a dog.The campground is quiet, beautiful, and you can hike the short campground hiking trail along the river, which connects to lovely network of other trails through the woods. Great for exploring!Plus, the campground is a short drive from the mountains for even longer hikes. Plus a 10-min drive to Littleton where you can buy necessities or enjoy the beautiful town.Other guests have been polite, quiet, and friendly. As some have mentioned, there is distant noise from the highway late at night, but nothing that kept us awake.
Oct 07, 2024 · Danielle StarkeyColumbus Day Weekend in the White Mountains, we just spent this past weekend at the Fransted Family Campground. We had site 4, this site was small, but worked for our 19' camper. It was right across from the office and approx. 2 sites from the bathhouse. We typically do not book this near to office, how ever this time was ok, it was quite. The campground was well maintained and clean. Bathrooms some would say are a bit dated, I would say your roughing it. They were clean and provided the essentials. Shower rooms were clean and had good hot water. The location of campground was right off I93, very easy to get in an out. When we stay again I would recommend down near the back like sites 25a, 25 or 26. Most of the sites were well spaced. My only downs were-firewood was a bit pricey at $9 a bundle, took a little bit to get lit. The office is not always available, there seemed to be many times it was closed in middle of day an no one around. In the ladies bathroom the sinks seemed to be having a draining issue, not sure if it was because there ending for the season, or just a malfunction. They did seem to have it cleaned up pretty quickly. Over all good private campground, we typically do State parks mostly because you know what to expect. We have tried several different private camp grounds and not always had a great experience. We typically camp in Maine, NH and VT.
Oct 15, 2024 · Amy GoodwinWe had a wonderful time at Fransted Campground. It was mid-week in September and there were very few people there, it was nice and quiet! We had a riverside tent site #27 which was perfect. The bathrooms were the cleanest campground bathrooms I have ever seen. There's a short hiking trail which we took out to the river and had a picnic. It was lovely. The people that we met in the office were very kind and efficient. There are lots of rules, but that's how we like it.Although this didn't bother us, you should know that there is traffic noise from the nearby highway, day and night, especially big trucks. This may be a problem for some people.
Sep 13, 2024 · debbie calkinThis campsite was nice and in the perfect location for hiking. We stayed here for 3 nights. Everyone was friendly and the check in process was very easy. The showers were dirty but the restroom was fine. Firewood is very overpriced, consider buying before you arrive on site. The rv sites in the woods are very tight. Make sure you know how to back in a trailer if you stay in those sites. Playground was fine but outdated. The mini golf is not a thing at all. The trees overhanging the road could be trimmed back a little bit. They should move the dumpster location to the exit so you do not have to turn around or go through the entire campsite again to leave. Other than that we would stay again, especially for the price.
Oct 08, 2024 · Daniel HappWe recently had a great time camping here, nestled in Franconia. The campground was quiet, clean, and peaceful. We had enough room for our 30 foot motorhome and car with no problem. We loved the location while we were close to all the sites and activities. We were removed enough when it came time to settle in have a campfire and relax. Our camp post was attentive and polite, even providing us with firewood after hours.Highly recommend.
