However, it is crucial for local users to be aware that recent customer reviews paint a concerning picture of the current state of this camping and recreational area.
Based on the provided feedback, Fulton County Camping & Rec Area, which was once considered a "great" place, has reportedly experienced a significant decline in quality. Reviewers express disappointment with the maintenance of the lakes, the perceived lack of care by the staff regarding who is admitted, and the upkeep of the facilities. These accounts suggest that potential visitors should carefully weigh these recent experiences when considering this location for their "camping near me" needs.
Environment and Ambiance:
One of the primary concerns raised by reviewers pertains to the lakes within the recreation area. They are described as "horrible" and not maintained at all. Despite suggestions over several years to address the issue (such as shocking the lakes), no action seems to have been taken. This lack of maintenance has reportedly led to a poor fishing environment, with reviewers stating that it's difficult to catch any fish, while turtles are allegedly overpopulated. Furthermore, one reviewer mentioned that the lakes are often "trashed with waste" left by some campers.
The overall ambiance appears to have shifted negatively, with one long-time visitor noting an increase in "snobby and loud campers." This suggests a change in the type of clientele frequenting the area, potentially impacting the peaceful enjoyment for other campers. Additionally, there's a perception that more areas within the recreation area have become "private," which might limit the accessibility and enjoyment for all visitors.
The issue of overflowing garbage cans and tree limbs lying around, as mentioned by one reviewer, further detracts from the potential appeal of the natural environment. These points indicate a decline in the general upkeep and aesthetic quality of the area.
Services and Facilities:
The reviews raise significant concerns about the services and facilities at Fulton County Camping & Rec Area. One reviewer stated that the staff "doesn't seem to care about who they let in," referencing an influx of "rude, obnoxious, and complete trash" individuals among both day pass users and seasonal/permanent campers. This perception of lax oversight in who is permitted into the area is a major point of dissatisfaction.
The condition of the facilities also comes under criticism. One reviewer noted that the new host appears overwhelmed, resulting in overflowing garbage cans not being emptied, tree limbs left lying around, poorly maintained port-a-potties, and constantly filthy shower houses and bathrooms. These descriptions paint a picture of neglected infrastructure and a lack of attention to basic hygiene and maintenance, which are crucial for a positive camping experience.
The increasing rates mentioned by one reviewer, coupled with the declining benefits and maintenance, suggest a poor value proposition for potential campers.
Features and Activities:
Fishing is explicitly mentioned as an activity that has declined significantly over the years due to the poor state of the lakes. Reviewers strongly advise against coming to Fulton County Camping & Rec Area with the expectation of good fishing.
Beyond fishing, the provided reviews do not detail other features or activities that the area might offer. The focus is primarily on the negative aspects related to the lakes, the behavior of some visitors, and the lack of maintenance of the facilities.
The increasing number of "private access signs" suggests a potential limitation on the areas accessible to all campers, which could detract from the overall recreational experience.

Fulton County Camping & Rec Area Reviews
This place use to be great but recently it has gone way down hill. First, the lakes are horrible, they are not maintained at all, people have recommended shocking them for a few years and no one listens. You would think with all the water and area the fish population could self sustain but that is not the case here. You can fish all weekend all hours and not catch anything. You would have better luck catching a turtle since they are over populated here. Next, the staff doesn't seem to care about who they let in, day pass people and seasonal/permanent spot campers. There has been an influx of people being allowed to get spots just for simply paying. They are rude, obnoxious, and lets just say it, complete trash! Refunds should be given and told just to leave otherwise the good campers will all soon be gone and you will have Law Enforcement out there regularly. Lastly the new host that is out there is overwhelmed with the job. Garbage cans over flowing and not being dumped, tree limbs laying all over, port-a-potties not being taken care of, and shower house and bathrooms constantly filthy.
Jul 20, 2024 · Rumple BumpyIf you want to come here and fish, just don't. Fishing has declined over the years, and every year management changes. There is increasingly more snobby and loud campers, and everywhere has become private. Lakes are usually trashed with waste by those same people. Only changes ive seen over the past decade is more private access signs and road signs put up. Rates keep increasing while benefits go down. It wasnt always like this. Dont waste your time coming here.

Feb 03, 2025 · Sue TisdaleIt was Labor Day weekend and we couldn’t find anywhere to camp until I came across this place and I’m very glad I did. It wasn’t busy at all we had the camp sight to ourselves one night and shared it with one other group the second night. We had a spot right next to the lake with 2 tables and a fire pit. There is a port-a-potty close to the camp grounds and might I add that it’s the cleanest port-a-potty I’ve ever seen. There’s is also a bathroom and shower house a little farther away. There was also a powered pavilion close by as well. They give you a key card to get in and out of the grounds through a gate which is nice and makes you feel somewhat secure. There is a Casey’s General store 5 mins away in St. Davis and a decent sized town of Canton where they have just about anything you would need. We have Sprint-T-Mobile cell service and our phones worked good. I also would like to mention John Young, he was the guy who took our phone call when we called and checked us in after hours. He was friendly, helpful, and available if we needed him for anything, great service and great campground. I defiantly recommend this place and we will defiantly be back here in the future.
