Ga Mountain Campground Introduce
Seeking a "camping near me" experience with breathtaking lake views in the North Georgia mountains? Ga Mountain Campground, located in Hiawassee, GA, offers a unique opportunity to camp right on the shores of a beautiful lake. This campground is particularly appealing to kayak enthusiasts, with certain lakeside sites providing easy access to the water. While some facilities may show their age, the stunning environment and direct lake access make Ga Mountain Campground a noteworthy option for those looking to immerse themselves in nature.
One of the most frequently praised aspects of Ga Mountain Campground is its exceptional location and the picturesque views it offers. Several campsites boast excellent vistas of the lake, allowing campers to wake up to stunning scenery and enjoy the tranquility of the waterfront. For those who love kayaking, specific lakeside sites, including numbers 30, 31, 35, 37, and 39, are highlighted for their easy entry points to the lake. This direct access makes launching and retrieving kayaks convenient, allowing for more time spent enjoying the water.
However, it's important to note that not all campsites offer the same level of ease of access to the lake. One reviewer mentioned staying at site 45, which presented more of a challenge when transporting a kayak to the water due to the slope. This suggests that the terrain and accessibility to the lake can vary depending on the specific campsite. Therefore, when booking, it may be beneficial to inquire about the specific characteristics of individual sites, especially if easy kayak access is a priority.
Regarding the facilities, one review provides insight into the condition of the restrooms. While described as "a bit dated," they are also noted to have undergone some upgrades and are maintained as clean and well-supplied. This suggests that while the amenities may not be brand new, efforts are made to ensure they are functional and hygienic for campers' use. It's always good to have realistic expectations regarding the age of facilities in more established campgrounds.
On the other hand, another review points out some potential drawbacks to consider. The absence of sewage hookups and internet access might be a concern for some campers who prefer more modern conveniences. Additionally, the experience of one camper at a specific site included a water hookup located a significant distance away (75 feet), a site that was difficult to access and back into with limited space, and a noticeably unlevel parking area that required digging holes to level the tires. This feedback indicates that the quality and features of individual campsites can vary considerably within the campground.
Despite these mixed reviews regarding specific site conditions and amenities, the consistent appreciation for the lake views and the ease of kayak access from certain sites remains a strong positive. For campers prioritizing a waterfront location and direct access for water activities, particularly kayaking, Ga Mountain Campground holds significant appeal. The beauty of waking up right by the lake and having the opportunity for spontaneous paddles cannot be understated.
Given the information available, it appears that Ga Mountain Campground offers a more rustic camping experience focused on the natural beauty of its lakeside setting. While some modern amenities might be lacking and certain campsites present challenges, the allure of camping directly on the lake with stunning views is a major draw. Kayak lovers, in particular, will find the designated easy-access sites highly desirable.
Prospective campers should be aware that the levelness and accessibility of individual sites can vary. It would be prudent to inquire about the specific characteristics of a campsite when making a reservation to ensure it meets your needs and expectations, especially if you have specific requirements for vehicle access or leveling. Similarly, understanding the available amenities, such as the absence of sewage and internet, will help in preparing for your stay.
In conclusion, Ga Mountain Campground offers a unique "camping near me" experience for those seeking a lakeside retreat in Hiawassee, GA. The excellent lake views and easy kayak access from select sites are significant advantages. While some facilities are dated and individual campsite conditions can vary, the beauty of the location and the opportunity to camp right on the water make it a compelling option for nature-loving campers, especially those who enjoy kayaking. Ga Mountain Campground Reviews
Great place to stay. Excellent views of the lake. Easy entry for kayak lovers on lake side sites, especially sites 30, 31, 35, 37, and 39. We stayed at 45, which can be a bit more work to get your yak to the water due to the slope, but still had a great time. Restrooms are a bit dated, but somewhat upgraded as well as clean and supplied.
Sep 24, 2022 · Derek WestAn amazing view! had a camp site right on the lakeNo sewage, no internet, the water hookup was 75ft away, the site was difficult to get to and then back into with very little room, it wasn't level at all, had to dig holes in the dirt to park the tires in on 1 side.
Sep 15, 2023 · Jesse BarlowReally fun, beautiful place to camp. Close to everything in Hiawassee. It would be nice if some work was done on the camp sites themselves. The ground is very uneven and sloped on most sites, and it seems that the gravel had been mostly washed away. Our fire pit was on a slope/angle, so we couldn’t really sit around it. Also, the bathrooms are in need of renovation..
Jun 15, 2022 · Braves _22Absolutely beautiful camp site, well maintained bathrooms, my car battery died and they were kind enough to come out and give me a jump. 10 out of 10 would recommend.
