Gram and Paps Fort Bellefonte Campground Introduce
If you're searching for "camping near me" in the Bellefonte, Pennsylvania area, Gram and Paps Fort Bellefonte Campground, located at 2023 Jacksonville Rd, Bellefonte, PA 16823, USA, presents a mixed picture based on recent customer reviews. To help you make an informed decision, we've compiled an objective overview of the campground's environment, potential services, features, and any notable points raised by visitors.
A Campground with a History:
One review mentions a nostalgic connection to Gram and Paps Fort Bellefonte Campground, recalling a time when it was considered a "beautiful camp" where the reviewer's parents spent entire summers. This suggests a campground with a potentially long-standing presence in the Bellefonte area and perhaps a history of providing enjoyable camping experiences. For local users seeking a "camping near me" with a sense of tradition, this historical connection might be appealing.
Contrasting Views on Current Condition:
However, the same reviewer expresses significant disappointment with the current state of the campground, describing a recent drive-through experience as akin to driving through a "junk yard." The primary concern raised is the condition of the "permanent sites," which are described as "really junky." Additionally, the mini-golf area is reported to look nothing like the pictures in advertisements, leading to the conclusion that the campground has "really let this place go to pot." This strongly negative assessment regarding the current upkeep and aesthetics of the campground is a crucial point for potential visitors to consider in their search for "camping near me." The reviewer explicitly states they "will not be staying there" due to these observations.
A Counterpoint: Quiet and Laid-Back Atmosphere:
In contrast to the strongly negative review, another recent visitor offers a more balanced perspective, describing Gram and Paps Fort Bellefonte Campground as an "OK campground" that is "quiet for the most part" and "very laid-back." This suggests that the campground might still offer a peaceful and relaxed environment for those seeking a low-key "camping near me" experience. The difference in these two reviews highlights the subjective nature of campground experiences and the potential for varying conditions within different areas of the campground.
Potential Noise Considerations:
The more moderate review does mention a potential source of noise, noting that "you can hear truck traffic on I 80." For campers sensitive to traffic sounds, this proximity to a major interstate could be a drawback when considering Gram and Paps Fort Bellefonte Campground for their "camping near me" needs. However, the reviewer still found the campground to be "quiet for the most part," suggesting that the traffic noise might not be consistently disruptive.
Observations on Long-Term Campers:
Another observation from the more balanced review is the presence of "several long term campers" who reportedly "drive around the campground at night quite a lot." While the reviewer doesn't explicitly state this as a negative, it's a piece of information that potential visitors might want to consider. Frequent nighttime vehicle movement within a campground could potentially be disruptive to those seeking a completely tranquil "camping near me" experience.
Positive Feedback on Staff and Site Conditions:
Despite some of the concerns raised, the more moderate review offers positive feedback regarding the staff and the campsites themselves. "Jodie" is specifically mentioned as being "very friendly" and doing a "pretty good job keeping up with the maintenance." This suggests that while the overall aesthetic might be a concern for some, the staff is helpful and responsive. Additionally, the reviewer notes that "the camp sites are pretty level," which is a significant advantage for ensuring a comfortable setup for tents and RVs. Level campsites contribute to a more stable and enjoyable camping experience for those looking for "camping near me" with practical amenities.
Limited Information on Amenities:
The available reviews provide limited information about the specific services and amenities offered at Gram and Paps Fort Bellefonte Campground. The mention of mini-golf in the negative review suggests that it was once an advertised feature, though its current condition is reportedly poor. The more moderate review notes that the reviewer "didn't visit the bathroom or shower house," so no information is provided regarding these essential facilities. When considering this campground for your "camping near me" needs, it would be prudent to inquire directly about the availability and condition of amenities such as restrooms, showers, water sources, laundry facilities, and any recreational offerings.
Recommendation with Caveats:
Despite the mixed feedback, the more moderate reviewer concludes by stating, "I would recommend this campground." However, this recommendation comes with the context of the noted traffic noise and the presence of long-term campers driving at night. Potential visitors should weigh these factors against the positive aspects of a quiet atmosphere, friendly staff, and level campsites when making their decision about "camping near me."

Conclusion: A "Camping Near Me" Option with Varied Perspectives:
Gram and Paps Fort Bellefonte Campground presents a complex picture for those searching for "camping near me" in Bellefonte, PA. While it appears to offer a generally quiet and laid-back atmosphere with friendly staff and level campsites, there are significant concerns raised about the overall condition and upkeep of the campground, particularly regarding permanent sites and advertised amenities like the mini-golf. The proximity to I-80 may result in some traffic noise, and the presence of long-term campers with nighttime vehicle movement is another factor to consider. Potential visitors should carefully weigh the positive and negative feedback and are strongly advised to contact the campground directly to obtain current information and assess whether it meets their specific needs and expectations for a local camping experience.

Gram and Paps Fort Bellefonte Campground Reviews
My parents used to camp here for the whole summer. Was a beautiful camp. Drove through it today thought I was driving through a junk yard. Permanent sites are are really junky. Mini golf looks nothing like pictures in adds. They have really let this place to to pot. Very disappointed to see the poor condition of this place. Will not be staying there. ☹️☹️☹️
May 24, 2023 · Jeannie KarwowskiThis is an OK campground. It's quiet for the most part. Very laid-back. However, you can hear truck traffic on I 80. There are also several long term campers here who drive around the campground at night quite a lot. Jodie is very friendly and does a pretty good job keeping up with the maintenance. The camp sites are pretty level. I didn't visit the bathroom or shower house. I would recommend this campground.
Aug 14, 2017 · Tod & Laura Pa_5erCampsites on the mountain side, most with some shade. Cash only not a bad thing. Four stars only due to washed roads not being repaired yet and no Wi-Fi at our site. This is an update from a recent stay of 9-9 &10-2021. I called ahead for a reservation that cound not be found when we arrived. They did find us a spot for our 40 foot motor home, 50Amp & water that had to be boiled, no sewer. $70 a night due to Penn State home game Saturday. We were due out Sat morning. The site was #19, grass slightly downhill & wet, leveling picked the front wheels off the ground. I pulled in and could not back up to get square in site. I was stuck, could not back up at all. A 15 ton coach should never be put in this site even if it was dry. Two day without rain and I had a CG worker spread gravel behind my duals and had no problem backing out. We always leave home with a full tank of city water and at least 5 gallons of drinking water so no water or sewer was not a problem but for $70.00 a night they should have done better. Everything is looking worse than our first stay, roads still need maintenance. In all good faith I can no longer recommend this Camp Ground.
Sep 20, 2021 · Bernard HoppeIt's not A KOA campground. It's a small mom&pop type place that is mostly ran by the family that owns the property. They permit alcohol, which you'll never find at a state park. They have many camper spots and a nice tent section. We stay In the tent section every memorial day weekend and always have a blast. The bathroom is always clean, and centrally located. They have a laundry room and showers also.
May 31, 2017 · Joshua KingWe enjoyed our time here with friends for a weekend camp out. The place is getting a little rundown. However, it's fairly clean and the atmosphere was good. The campsites were closer together than what I care for. A tent site along the woods with no hookup was $30 a night. A tent site with electric and water was $60 a night. I believe that the cabins were $80.
