Based on camper reviews, Grasshopper Meadows Campground is favorably located next to the White River. This proximity offers campers the opportunity to enjoy the riverine environment, with several trails providing easy access to the White River within a short walk of under 10 minutes. The natural scenery surrounding the campground is also highlighted as being quite beautiful, offering opportunities for photography, especially on pleasant days. The presence of "a few good picnic tables" suggests that the campsites are equipped with basic amenities for comfortable outdoor dining.
One reviewer who camped at Grasshopper Meadows Campground described it as "very beautiful." This positive initial impression underscores the natural appeal of the location. However, this same reviewer also raises several important points of caution for potential visitors. Firstly, they advise bringing bug spray, indicating that insects may be prevalent in the area, particularly during certain times of the year. Being prepared for insects is always a good practice when camping in natural environments.
More significantly, the reviewer mentions the presence of "people living in the woods up there" and advises caution. This suggests that there may be individuals or groups residing in the general vicinity of the campground outside of designated camping areas. While not necessarily a direct threat, this information warrants awareness and vigilance from campers regarding their belongings and personal safety.
Furthermore, the reviewer reports the presence of a "religious group up there that believe that is there land and our kinda nasty to people enjoying the wilderness." This is a concerning observation, as it suggests potential conflicts or negative interactions with other individuals in the area who may not respect the rights of campers to enjoy the public lands. The reviewer further alleges that this group has blocked off trail access, claiming it as private land, which the reviewer asserts is not legal. This is a serious issue, as it could impede campers' ability to access and enjoy the surrounding natural areas and potentially lead to confrontations.
The reviewer also indicates that they informed the Rangers about this situation but claims that the Rangers are friends with the religious group and therefore "won't enforce the rules for them." If this allegation is accurate, it suggests a potential lack of support from local authorities in addressing these issues, which could further impact the camping experience at Grasshopper Meadows. Potential visitors should be aware of this reported situation and consider its implications for their safety and enjoyment of the area.
Despite these concerning reports, the initial description of the campground as "good" and the mention of its beautiful scenery and access to the White River still highlight its potential as a worthwhile camping destination. However, prospective campers should be aware of the potential challenges reported by other visitors and take appropriate precautions.
Information regarding specific services and features of Grasshopper Meadows Campground is somewhat limited in the provided reviews. The presence of picnic tables is mentioned, suggesting that basic campsite amenities are available. However, details about restroom facilities, water sources, fire pits, or other common campground features are not provided. Campers should be prepared for a potentially rustic camping experience and bring any necessary supplies and equipment, including water purification if relying on the river or other natural sources for water (which is generally not recommended without treatment).
Similarly, no promotional information, such as fees, reservation policies, or any special offers, is included in the available reviews. To obtain this essential information, it is crucial to contact the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest, which manages this area, at the provided phone number: (509) 664-9200 or +1 509-664-9200. They will be able to provide details on camping fees, whether reservations are required or if it operates on a first-come-first-served basis, any regulations specific to Grasshopper Meadows Campground, and any current advisories regarding the area, including the reported issues with other individuals and trail access.
In conclusion, Grasshopper Meadows Campground near Leavenworth, WA, offers a potentially beautiful camping experience next to the White River with easy trail access and scenic views. However, prospective campers should be aware of the reported presence of individuals living in the woods nearby and, more concerningly, a religious group that has allegedly been hostile to other wilderness users and has blocked trail access. The reported lack of enforcement by the Rangers adds to the complexity of the situation. While the natural setting seems appealing, it is strongly recommended to contact the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest directly to get the most up-to-date information on the campground's status, fees, regulations, and any official advisories regarding safety and access in the area. Preparedness for insects is also advised. Campers should weigh the positive descriptions of the natural beauty against the potential challenges reported by other visitors when deciding whether to camp at Grasshopper Meadows.

May 31, 2019 · Robert AlbergVery beautiful, We camped there this weekend. Bring bug spray. There are people living in the woods up there so be careful, there is also a religious group up there that believe that is there land and our kinda nasty to people enjoying the wilderness. I informed the Rangers but there friends so won't enforce the rules for them. They have trail access blocked off saying it's private. It's not legal to do that
Jul 24, 2017 · Daniel BryanI axamined the grasshopper campground on May 15th,2019 and found them to be in poor condition. There was trash, broken bottles in the fire pits.It looks like the campsites do not get maintenance performed on a daily/weekly basis. The road is blocked further down 1/4 miles by a 4 foot diameter tree blocking the entire road to the next camp ground. It looks to me that the grasshopper campsite would be very nice if the maintenance was kept up.Afraid to open the doors and look at the volt toilets! Lol!The scenery is fantastic!
May 16, 2019 · joe walls srVery sedate campground. Beautiful old trees. It's near a river so there are huge swarms of mosquitoes. The road to this campground is rough. Possible in regular car IF you go slow.
Jul 10, 2020 · One OutlanderIt is nice and very private. You definitely need a car built for the tough road. However, bring a lot of mosquito repellant. We forgot ours, and had to leave early due to them feasting on us.
