Green Mountain Family Campground Introduce
For local residents in Vermont and surrounding areas searching for "camping near me," Green Mountain Family Campground, located at 4817 S 116 Rd, Bristol, VT 05443, USA, offers a year-round camping option in a potentially scenic setting. You can reach them at (802) 453-3123 or their mobile number +1 802-453-3123. Based on the available customer reviews, the campground presents a mixed picture of positive natural features and hospitality alongside a concerning report regarding owner interaction.
One of the significant advantages of Green Mountain Family Campground, particularly for those looking to camp outside the typical summer season, is that it is one of the "not many campgrounds open year-round in Vermont." This extended availability broadens the opportunities for local campers to enjoy the outdoors throughout the year, whether for a fall foliage getaway, a winter adventure, or an early spring escape. This year-round operation can be a major draw for those who don't want their camping options limited by seasonal closures.
The environment of Green Mountain Family Campground is described as "a beautiful site." One reviewer specifically mentioned the "short hiking trails just above our campsite" as a pleasant and convenient diversion. These trails offer opportunities for leisurely walks and further immersion in the natural surroundings. The campground also seems to offer appealing views, as the same reviewer noted their sons loved going to the front of the camp to "marvel at the sunsets." This suggests a location with open vistas that allow for enjoying the scenic beauty of the Vermont landscape.
A unique feature of the campground that seems to be particularly popular with families is the presence of pet goats. The reviewer mentioned their sons enjoyed going to the front of the camp to interact with these animals, providing a fun and memorable experience, especially for children. This animal encounter adds a distinctive charm to the campground and can be a significant attraction for families with young kids.
In terms of services and hospitality, one reviewer had an overwhelmingly positive experience with a host named Gary. They highlighted his proactive communication leading up to their trip, which helped ease their anxiety about their first RV experience. Upon arrival, Gary's welcoming demeanor, including meeting them at the gate and guiding them to their site, was greatly appreciated. Throughout their stay of three nights and two days, Gary was described as being "visible around the campground" and regularly checking in with them to offer assistance. His helpfulness and friendly nature were consistently praised, leading the reviewer to express a strong desire to stay there again in the future.
However, a contrasting and deeply negative experience was reported by another reviewer regarding an interaction with the "female owner." This reviewer recounted being "aggressively berated" for checking out 30 minutes late, despite the fact that "no check out time was mentioned when we arrived, on camp map, in bathroom, etc." This interaction was described as "very strange" and "awful," nearly ruining the reviewer's wife's birthday and being the "most memorably awful human interaction" of their extensive travels across eastern North America. This strongly negative feedback raises significant concerns about the consistency of customer service and the potential for unpleasant encounters with the campground management.
The same reviewer who reported the negative interaction also noted that the "Camp is ok if a little run down." This suggests that while the natural setting might have its appeals, the physical facilities of the campground might be showing some signs of age or lack of upkeep. This is an important consideration for local users who prioritize well-maintained amenities during their camping trips.
Based on the limited information, specific details about other services and features are not available. We do not know the types of campsites offered (e.g., RV sites with hookups, tent sites), the availability of restrooms and showers, laundry facilities, or other recreational amenities that are commonly found at family campgrounds. Local users would need to contact Green Mountain Family Campground directly to inquire about these details based on their specific camping needs.
Similarly, there is no information provided in the reviews regarding any promotional offers or discounts that might be available to local residents or for specific times of the year. Interested users should reach out to the campground via phone or their website (if available) to inquire about pricing and any potential special deals.
In conclusion, Green Mountain Family Campground offers the significant advantage of being open year-round in Vermont, providing extended camping opportunities for local users. It is situated in a "beautiful site" with short hiking trails and the unique attraction of pet goats, which can be particularly appealing to families. One reviewer reported exceptional hospitality from a host named Gary. However, a serious concern is raised by another reviewer who described an aggressive and unpleasant interaction with the female owner. This inconsistency in customer service is a critical factor for potential visitors to consider. Additionally, one reviewer noted that the camp is "a little run down," suggesting that the facilities might not be top-of-the-line. Local users should weigh the benefits of the year-round availability and natural setting against the potential for negative interactions with management and the condition of the facilities. It is highly recommended to contact Green Mountain Family Campground directly for detailed information about their services, amenities, pricing, and current conditions before making a reservation.

Green Mountain Family Campground Reviews
There are not many campgrounds open year-round in Vermont. With our search already limited, I don't think we could've found a better place for our first RV trip as a small family. Gary checked in with us frequently leading up to our trip and easing our anxiety. When we arrived, he greeted us at the gate, drove up to the site with us, and answered any questions we had.Throughout our three nights and two days, he was visible around the campground and checked in with us to see if we needed anything. He was quick to help and could not have been nicer to our family.I'd missed it on their website, but the short hiking trails just above our campsite were frequent diversions between meals. Our sons loved going down to the front of camp to pet the goats and marvel at the sunsets. It really is a beautiful site, and if we get back to Vermont again in the future, I'd certainly want to stay here again. Thanks for being a great host!
Apr 20, 2025 · Ben JamesOwner aggressively berated my family for “checking out” 30 minutes late (no check out time was mentioned when we arrived, on camp map, in bathroom, etc). Very strange interaction, which nearly ruined my wife’s birthday, and which was the most memorably awful human interaction of my family’s travels all across eastern North America from Newfoundland to Florida. Camp is ok if a little run down… but watch out for female owner. Weirdly out of place in generally chilled out and hospitable Vermont
Nov 21, 2024 · Ken BehrensSpent the weekend with friends, great place. One couple used their small cabin, perfect for a couple and two young girls. Our other friend had a travel trailer delivered. The owner helped them set it up, so our friends were good to go for a late arrival.Plenty of space between site across from the pool and large field. Small hiking trails to take the kids for a nature hike.Owner/operator was very helpful and friendly. We camped at Green Mountain Family Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Apr 27, 2025 · Andrew HuntGary’s help and hospitality is immeasurable. We arrived after dark in the pouring rain and he not only greeted us but helped get our big rig parked and set up. He was knowledgeable, patient, and kind and even allowed us to borrow supplies until we were able to get our own. We camped in the winter during heavy snow and the grounds were beautiful, truly at the base of the beautiful Green Mountains. The amenities were closed for the season but we enjoyed exploring the grounds and the nearby village of Bristol (a gem in its own right). Our site was spacious and the community was quiet—the goats were certainly a plus! If we’re ever back in Vermont we would certainly choose to stay here again.
