Hagerstown / Antietam Battlefield KOA Holiday Introduce
For local users searching for "camping near me" in the Hagerstown, Maryland area, the Hagerstown / Antietam Battlefield KOA Holiday, located at 11759 Snug Hbr Ln, Williamsport, MD 21795, USA, presents itself as a potentially convenient option, particularly for those interested in visiting the nearby Antietam National Battlefield. As part of the well-known KOA (Kampgrounds of America) network, it typically suggests a certain standard of amenities and services. However, recent feedback from campers provides a nuanced perspective that local users should consider when making their camping plans.
The campground's location offers proximity to the historical significance of the Antietam National Battlefield, a major draw for history enthusiasts. This allows for easy access to explore the battlefields and learn about this pivotal moment in American history. For those traveling through the area, the KOA can serve as an overnight stop, as noted by one reviewer with a 28' travel trailer rig who found it adequate for a brief stay. The presence of a camp store with "lots of merch" and a friendly staff are also mentioned as positive aspects, offering convenience for basic supplies and assistance.
However, several reviewers have highlighted concerns regarding the campground's environment and site conditions. The roadways within the campground are described as narrow and composed of gravel or mud, which could pose challenges for larger RVs or during inclement weather. Site levelness appears to be an issue, with one camper noting their site was not level. Additionally, sewer hookups are not standard at most sites, which is a significant consideration for RV owners planning a longer stay.
One of the more significant environmental concerns raised by a reviewer pertains to the creek mentioned on the campground's website as suitable for fishing, canoeing, and kayaking. According to the reviewer, the local Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) indicates that the creek is polluted due to agricultural runoff, advising against touching it. This discrepancy between the website's description and the actual condition of the water source is a crucial piece of information for local users who may be interested in these water-based activities.
The overall layout and size of the campground have also been points of contention. One reviewer felt that the campground was smaller than expected, and the online photos and map were misleading. The sites are described as small with little to no grass, leading to a less than ideal outdoor living space. Furthermore, some sites back up to a cow pasture, resulting in unpleasant odors. The placement of fire pits is also criticized for lacking privacy, being situated too close to neighboring sites.
Noise and privacy appear to be significant drawbacks for some campers. The presence of a road behind certain campsites with constant traffic from cars and golf carts detracts from the sense of peacefulness and privacy typically sought during camping. The central location of the dump station amongst campsites is also noted as a negative aspect. The close proximity of sites to each other contributes to a loud environment, potentially impacting the relaxation of campers.
Practical issues such as a leaking water spigot and a power cord inexplicably falling out of the outlet at one site raise concerns about the maintenance and reliability of the utilities. The "canoe dock" is described unappealingly as a gravel ditch, further contradicting any expectations of easy access to water activities. Fishing opportunities are also reported as limited due to water access being primarily behind individual campsites.
While the activities, diner, and store are mentioned as potentially great, the negative aspects related to the environment, site conditions, and lack of privacy seem to outweigh these positives for some reviewers. One camper who brought bikes found the campground too small to make cycling worthwhile. The overall sentiment from some reviews is one of disappointment, with the campground not meeting the expected quality for a KOA establishment, leading to a disinclination to return.
It's important for local users to weigh these objective observations carefully. If proximity to the Antietam Battlefield is a primary factor and you are looking for a basic overnight stop with access to a store and friendly staff, the Hagerstown / Antietam Battlefield KOA Holiday might suffice. However, if you prioritize spacious and level sites, privacy, clean and usable water access for recreation, and a generally peaceful and natural camping environment, the reviews suggest that this particular KOA might not meet those expectations.
Given the information available, there are no specific promotional offers mentioned in the provided reviews. Local users are advised to check the official KOA website or contact the campground directly at (301) 223-7571 or +1 301-223-7571 for any current promotions or discounts that may be available. It would also be prudent to inquire about the specific type of campsite being booked to understand its levelness, hookups, and proximity to any potential negative factors mentioned in the reviews, such as the cow pasture or the internal road.
In conclusion, for local users searching for "camping near me" close to the Antietam Battlefield, the Hagerstown / Antietam Battlefield KOA Holiday offers a convenient location and some basic amenities like a store and friendly staff. However, based on recent camper feedback, potential drawbacks include narrow and uneven roadways, unlevel and small campsites, limited or non-existent sewer hookups, a polluted creek unsuitable for recreation, lack of privacy due to site proximity and internal traffic, and potentially unreliable utilities. Local campers should carefully consider these factors and perhaps explore other camping options in the Hagerstown area to ensure a more satisfactory outdoor experience.

Hagerstown / Antietam Battlefield KOA Holiday Reviews
28' travel trailer rig. Adequate for an overnight. We didn't explore the area, so I can't make that assessment. Roadways are narrow with gravel or mud.. Site not level and did not have sewer (most don’t). Creek is pretty; website boasts of fishing, canoeing, kayaking, but DEC says it’s polluted from agricultural runoff so we wouldn’t touch it. Camp store has lots of merch and staff is friendly. We did not avail ourselves of the diner. Pool was closed (due to time of the year). Campground seemed like a private campground which became a KOA. Doubt we’d return.
Apr 18, 2025 · Patti AVery skinny and windy road to the campground. When we arrived, there is a one-lane entrance/exit that’s gravel, not paved. The campground itself is about smaller than expected and has little to no grass. The photos and map online were deceiving. Our site was small and backed up to a cow pasture that smelled. The fire pit placement is so close to the neighboring site, not private at all. There was also a road behind our site with cars and golf carts constantly driving through. No privacy, dump station right in the middle of sites, very loud since everyone is squished together. Water spigot leaked and somehow my power cord fell out of the outlet? Canoe “dock” is a gravel ditch. Limited space to fish since most of the water access is behind people’s sites. Brought bikes but didn’t use them since it was so small. Activities, diner, and store seemed great. Staff were friendly enough. Overall okay but will not be back. Not the quality I expected for a KOA.

Dec 05, 2024 · K mccormickMy wife and I booked four nights with our travel trailer and couldn't be happier. Or site has full hookups, nice shade and it's quite level. The grounds are very well maintained and all of the staff is fantastic. Nothing is too much! Ice and food can be delivered and they will even pick up the trash in the mornings. There is a very well appointed store and I hear the homemade crab cakes are delicious. We're very appreciative of everything and will definitely return. Thank you!
