Leatherman's/Falling Waters Campsite

7685 Williamsport Pike, Falling Waters, WV 25419, USA

4.0
A decent option for an overnight stay. We have a 25 foot Class C towing a Jeep and arrived after closing with a map, receipt and rules left where promised. Plenty of room to unhook out front. Roads around the campground are hilly, but our site was relatively level. The bathroom could use some updating and cleaning. Automatic paper towel dispenser was either broken or empty from the moment of arrival. As was mentioned in other reviews, most people staying here are full-timers, but that’s okay with us. Less than a mile off I-81, so very convenient for those traveling the interstate. We had no issue of road noise as mentioned by others. They have a nice little pond out front which seems to be a goose magnet so watch where you walk. They are proud of their longevity here, but a few updates would really help. It appears they have a nice little camping store, but it wasn’t open during our overnight stay. If passing through, we’d stop here again. - Mark L. Clark

Leatherman's/Falling Waters Campsite Introduce

For local users searching for "camping near me" in the Falling Waters, West Virginia area, Leatherman's/Falling Waters Campsite, located at 7685 Williamsport Pike, Falling Waters, WV 25419, USA, presents itself as an option, particularly for those traveling along Interstate 81. You can reach them at (304) 274-2791 or their mobile number +1 304-274-2791. Based on recent customer reviews, the campground offers a convenient location for overnight stays and those passing through, though it's important to be aware of certain aspects highlighted by fellow campers.

Convenient Environment for Travelers

One of the primary advantages of Leatherman's/Falling Waters Campsite, as noted by reviewers, is its proximity to Interstate 81. This makes it a particularly convenient stop for travelers looking for an overnight camping location. The accessibility from the interstate is a significant benefit for those on long journeys. The campground is situated less than a mile off the I-81, providing easy on-and-off access. While some campgrounds near major highways can suffer from significant road noise, at least one reviewer mentioned they did not experience this issue during their stay, suggesting that the noise level might vary depending on the campsite location within the grounds or other environmental factors.

The physical environment of the campground includes hilly terrain around the camping areas, but some individual sites are reported to be relatively level, which is crucial for setting up RVs and tents comfortably. The presence of a small pond near the front of the property is also mentioned, adding a natural element to the surroundings. However, potential campers should be aware that this pond seems to attract geese, so caution is advised when walking in that area.

Services and Features: A Mixed Perspective

Based on the available reviews, the services and features of Leatherman's/Falling Waters Campsite present a mixed picture. Some aspects appear adequate for a brief stay, while others seem to need improvement.

  • Accessibility for Larger Vehicles: One reviewer with a 25-foot Class C RV towing a Jeep reported having plenty of room to unhook in front, suggesting that the campground can accommodate larger vehicles, at least for temporary maneuvering upon arrival.
  • After-Hours Check-in: For those arriving late, the campground seems to have a system in place for after-hours check-in, with maps, receipts, and rules left for late arrivals as promised. This can be a significant convenience for travelers with unpredictable arrival times.
  • Potential Camping Store: The campground reportedly has a camping store on-site. However, at least one reviewer noted that it was not open during their overnight stay, so its availability might be limited or have specific operating hours.
  • Full-Time Residents: It's mentioned that a significant portion of the campers are full-time residents. While this was not an issue for one reviewer, it's something to be aware of as it might influence the overall atmosphere of the campground compared to one primarily catering to short-term visitors.

Areas for Improvement Based on Customer Feedback

Several reviewers highlighted areas where Leatherman's/Falling Waters Campsite could improve its services and facilities:

  • Bathroom Facilities: Multiple reviewers mentioned the need for updating and cleaning of the bathroom facilities. Specific issues raised include the age of the facilities, the presence of mold in the shower area, dirty floors, and the lack of essential supplies such as soap and hand towels. An automatic paper towel dispenser was also reported as broken or empty.
  • Campsite Conditions: One reviewer reported being assigned a campsite at a muddy exit at the bottom of a hill with waterlogged ground, even under a freeze-proof sleeve. This suggests that some campsites, particularly those located below the main area, may be susceptible to flooding during thunderstorms. The sites on top of the hill are generally considered better in this regard.
  • Customer Service: One reviewer expressed that the staff were not customer-focused in assisting campers. This is a significant point of concern as positive and helpful staff can greatly enhance the camping experience.
  • Overall Maintenance and Updates: While the campground is proud of its longevity, several reviewers suggested that some updates to the facilities are needed to improve the overall quality and comfort for guests.

Promotional Information

Based on the provided information, there are no specific promotional offers mentioned for Leatherman's/Falling Waters Campsite. Local users interested in staying here may want to contact the campground directly using the provided phone numbers to inquire about any potential discounts for local residents, seasonal specials, or extended stay rates. It's also advisable to ask about the availability of the camping store and its operating hours if that is a service you intend to use.

Given the feedback regarding the condition of the facilities and certain campsites, it would be prudent for potential local users to inquire about the specific site they will be assigned and the current status of the bathroom and shower facilities when making a reservation. While the convenience of the location near I-81 is a significant draw for those in transit, local campers might have different priorities regarding site quality and amenities.

Objective Conclusion

Leatherman's/Falling Waters Campsite offers a convenient location for those seeking "camping near me" in the Falling Waters area, particularly for overnight stays while traveling on I-81. The campground appears to accommodate larger RVs and has a system for after-hours check-in. However, potential guests should be aware of the reported need for updates and improved cleanliness in the bathroom facilities, the potential for muddy or waterlogged campsites in lower areas, and concerns raised about customer service. While the presence of a pond and a potential camping store are mentioned as features, their impact on the overall experience might vary. Local users considering this campground should weigh the convenience of its location against the feedback regarding its facilities and services and perhaps contact the campground directly for the most up-to-date information and to address any specific concerns before making a reservation.
