Harden's Horse Camp Introduce
For local users in Indiana seeking "camping near me" specifically tailored for equestrian activities, Harden's Horse Camp, located at 5551 Hickory Grove Rd, Norman, IN 47264, USA, presents itself as a specialized campground catering to those who travel with horses. The contact phone numbers are (812) 236-9695 and +1 812-236-9695. Reviews from fellow horse enthusiasts offer a mixed perspective on this campground. One reviewer enthusiastically declared it "the best camp ground in Norman for horses," praising the owners as "great and very welcoming" and readily available for assistance. They highlighted the provision of four clean stalls and a nice camping spot, emphasizing the small size of the campground with only ten total spots, which they found to be a significant advantage. Based on this positive experience, they highly recommend Harden's Horse Camp and awarded it a 5-star review. However, another customer reported a negative experience regarding their reservation and the campground's refund policy. This reviewer, traveling with a large 48' living quarters horse trailer, decided against traveling to Harden's Horse Camp due to concerns about narrow roads and sharp blind corners leading to the location. Upon calling to cancel a few days prior to their October 2019 reservation, they were informed of a strict "no refund" policy, which they were told was stated on the website and common among area horse camps. The reviewer disputed this, stating that the policy was not visible on the website as of December 2019 and was not mentioned during the initial phone reservation. They also claimed that other local horse camps had more flexible refund policies, typically applying to deposits rather than the full amount paid in advance (which was requested by Harden's Horse Camp). Despite subsequent email attempts to negotiate a partial refund, the reviewer reported no response from the campground. Attempts to seek assistance from the Indiana Trail Riders Association were also unsuccessful, leading this reviewer to conclude that the experience was "not encouraging or a friendly place for trail riding." Local users should consider both perspectives when evaluating Harden's Horse Camp.
The environment surrounding Harden's Horse Camp in Norman, Indiana, is situated in a region known for its rural landscapes and potential access to trails suitable for horseback riding. Norman is located in Lawrence County, which features a mix of woodlands, rolling hills, and open fields, typical of south-central Indiana. The campground's specific location on Hickory Grove Road suggests a setting that is likely immersed in nature, providing a quiet and potentially scenic backdrop for equestrian activities. The positive review mentioning "the best camp ground in Norman for horses" implies that the area is conducive to horse riding, possibly with access to local trails or bridle paths. The negative review, however, raises concerns about the accessibility of the campground for larger horse trailers due to "very narrow" roads and "sharp blind corners," which could be a significant factor for users traveling with substantial equestrian equipment. Despite this concern, the description of a "nice spot" in the positive review suggests that the camping areas within the campground itself are well-maintained and pleasant. The limited number of total spots (ten) could contribute to a more intimate and quieter camping experience, potentially appealing to those seeking a less crowded environment for themselves and their horses.
The services offered at Harden's Horse Camp are primarily geared towards accommodating guests traveling with horses. The provision of "4 stalls" for one reviewer indicates that horse stabling is a key service offered. The fact that these stalls were "kept very clean" suggests a commitment to the well-being of the horses. Beyond horse-specific amenities, campers would likely expect basic campground services such as campsites suitable for parking horse trailers and setting up living quarters or tents. Access to water for both horses and campers is also a reasonable expectation. While not explicitly mentioned, services such as waste disposal and possibly restroom facilities are typically provided at campgrounds. The positive review's mention of the owners being "close by if you need anything" suggests a level of on-site support and assistance for guests. The negative review, however, highlights a potentially rigid cancellation and refund policy, which the reviewer found unfavorable and inconsistent with practices at other local horse camps. Local users should carefully inquire about the campground's policies regarding reservations, cancellations, and refunds prior to booking. It would also be prudent to confirm the availability and nature of essential services for both campers and their horses when making inquiries.
The features of Harden's Horse Camp are centered around facilitating equestrian camping. The availability of horse stalls is a primary feature, allowing guests to safely and comfortably house their horses during their stay. The limited number of campsites (ten total) can be considered a feature, potentially offering a more exclusive and less crowded experience compared to larger campgrounds. The positive review's mention of a "nice spot" suggests that the camping areas are well-maintained and suitable for setting up camp. For those interested in trail riding, the campground's location in Norman, Indiana, implies potential access to local trails, although the negative review casts doubt on the area being "a friendly place for trail riding" due to the accessibility concerns for large trailers and the dispute with the campground management. Local users should research the availability and suitability of nearby trails for horseback riding independently. The welcoming nature of the owners, as reported in the positive review, could also be considered a feature, contributing to a pleasant and supportive atmosphere for guests. However, the contrasting experience of the other reviewer regarding customer service and dispute resolution presents a different perspective on the overall hospitality. Potential features might also include areas for washing horses, tack storage, or specific amenities catering to the needs of equestrian campers. It is advisable for prospective guests to inquire about all available features to ensure they meet their specific requirements for camping with horses.
Based on the provided information, there are no explicitly mentioned promotional offers for Harden's Horse Camp. Local users interested in staying at this campground should inquire directly about any potential discounts for local residents, seasonal rates, or special packages, especially if planning a longer stay or bringing multiple horses. Given the small size of the campground (ten spots), it is possible that availability might be limited, particularly during peak seasons or local equestrian events. Therefore, early booking might be recommended. When making inquiries, it would be wise to specifically ask about the cancellation and refund policy to avoid any misunderstandings similar to the negative experience reported in the reviews. Understanding the payment terms and any potential fees for additional services (such as extra stalls or amenities) is also crucial. Local equestrian groups or associations might have information on preferred rates or recommendations for campgrounds in the area, which could be a useful resource for finding potential promotions or insights into the best options for horse camping near Norman.
In conclusion, Harden's Horse Camp near Norman, Indiana, offers a specialized camping experience for those traveling with horses, as highlighted by the provision of horse stalls and the positive feedback regarding the welcoming owners and clean facilities. The small size of the campground might appeal to those seeking a quieter and more intimate setting. However, potential local users should also be aware of the negative review concerning the campground's accessibility for large trailers and a strict, potentially unfavorable refund policy. It is strongly recommended that prospective guests contact Harden's Horse Camp directly at (812) 236-9695 or +1 812-236-9695 to inquire about the current services, features, accessibility for their equipment, and the details of their reservation and cancellation policies to ensure a satisfactory experience. Further independent research on local trail riding opportunities in the Norman area is also advisable for those planning to explore the surroundings on horseback.

Harden's Horse Camp Reviews
The best camp ground in Norman for horses. The owners are great and very welcoming. They are close by if you need anything. We had 4 stalls, a nice spot and kept very clean. I would highly recommend this place, so I left a 5 star review. Only 10 total spots which made it even better.
Oct 21, 2019 · Alicia CrutcherPer their phone request I paid in full prior to an Oct. 2019 reservation date. Several days prior to that date I looked at & decided not to take my 48' living quarters horse trailer on the road to Harden Horse Camp because it is very narrow with sharp blind corners. This type of decision has proven wise over many years of travel with our horses. When I called them a few days before our arrival date to cancel they refused to refund any of my money. The said there is no refunds as stated on their website & it's the same no refund policy used by all of the other horse camps in the area. Not true. As of Dec. 2019 their website did not show a "no refund" policy. It was never mentioned on the phone when I made the reservation and other horse camps in the area have a refund policy on their websites indicating no refund on a “deposit”, not the full amount. In Nov. 2019 I sent an email to Harden’s Horse Camp again requesting a refund. I even agreed to a 50% refund. They have refused to respond. Attempts to engage the Indiana Trail Riders Association for help with my dispute was also unsuccessful. Not encouraging or a friendly place for trail riding.
