Hawthorn Park Campground- Vigo County Parks Introduce
Nestled in the heart of Vigo County, Indiana, Hawthorn Park Campground offers a convenient and accessible outdoor escape for local camping enthusiasts and travelers alike. As a featured option within the "camping near me" category, Hawthorn Park provides a range of amenities and natural surroundings to cater to various camping preferences. Managed by Vigo County Parks, this campground aims to deliver a comfortable and enjoyable experience for all visitors.
Hawthorn Park Campground boasts a diverse selection of campsites, ensuring options for both traditional tent campers and recreational vehicle (RV) travelers. According to available information, the campground features both primitive campsites and more developed sites equipped with electric hookups. Specifically, there are at least 10 primitive sites available for those seeking a more rustic experience, allowing campers to immerse themselves in the natural beauty of the area with basic amenities like picnic tables and fire pits. For those requiring more convenience, over 30 sites offer electric hookups, catering to RVs and campers who desire access to power for appliances and other needs. Additionally, some of these developed sites also include water hookups, further enhancing the comfort and convenience for RV campers.
The physical environment of Hawthorn Park Campground is generally well-regarded. Reviews suggest that the campsites are typically flat, making setup easier for both tents and RVs. Many sites are described as spacious, with gravel pads that contribute to a clean and stable camping area. The presence of picnic tables at each site provides a dedicated space for outdoor dining and gathering, while the inclusion of fire pits allows for campfires and cooking, enhancing the traditional camping experience. The campground is also noted for its proximity to the wider Hawthorn Park, suggesting that campers have access to additional recreational opportunities within the park itself, although specific details about these opportunities are not provided in the available information.
In terms of services and facilities, Hawthorn Park Campground prioritizes the comfort and convenience of its guests. A modern shower house is available, offering a significant amenity for campers, especially those staying in primitive sites or for extended periods. Bathroom facilities are also mentioned, ensuring basic hygiene needs are met. These features contribute to a more comfortable and enjoyable camping experience compared to more basic campgrounds. The campground is managed by the Vigo County Rec and Parks group, which has received positive feedback for their excellent work in maintaining the facilities and overall campground environment.
Several features make Hawthorn Park Campground an attractive option for local campers. Its location, just approximately 10-15 minutes from Interstate 70, offers convenient access for both local residents and those passing through the area. This accessibility makes it a suitable choice for overnight stays during longer journeys or for weekend getaways for those residing nearby. While its proximity to I-70 means that some traffic noise may be audible, at least one reviewer noted that it was not overly bothersome. The campground's seasonal operation, typically closing around October 17th, indicates that it caters primarily to spring, summer, and early fall camping.
Promotional information is somewhat limited in the provided data, but the positive reviews from previous visitors serve as a strong form of endorsement. One reviewer who initially gave a 5-star rating for a pleasant overnight stay highlighted the flat sites, picnic tables, fire pits, and bathroom facilities. They also noted the convenience of nearby stores, restaurants, and gas stations. Another reviewer described the campground as "sweet" and praised the nice gravel pads on large sites, the availability of pull-thru and easy back-in sites, and the modern shower house. The mention of "plenty to do in the area" suggests that beyond the campground itself, visitors can find local attractions and activities to enhance their stay, though specific details are not provided.
However, it is important to acknowledge a negative experience reported by one reviewer who stayed in a primitive site. This review detailed a disruptive night caused by other campers, involving loud noise, swearing, crying, and threats lasting until the early morning. This isolated incident, while concerning, appears to be an exception based on the other available reviews. It highlights the importance for campers to be considerate of their fellow visitors and potentially for the campground management to have clear guidelines and enforcement regarding noise and behavior, although the provided information does not detail such policies.
In conclusion, Hawthorn Park Campground in Vigo County presents itself as a convenient and well-equipped camping destination for local users within the "camping near me" category. It offers a variety of campsites, including primitive and RV-friendly options with electric and potentially water hookups. The presence of amenities such as picnic tables, fire pits, and a modern shower house contributes to a comfortable stay. Its accessible location near Terre Haute and I-70 makes it a practical choice for both short overnight stops and longer local camping trips. While one negative review regarding disruptive fellow campers exists, the majority of feedback suggests a positive experience, praising the well-maintained facilities and convenient location. Local residents looking for a nearby camping option with essential amenities and a pleasant environment should consider Hawthorn Park Campground for their next outdoor adventure before its seasonal closure around mid-October.

Hawthorn Park Campground- Vigo County Parks Reviews
Never write a review till you check out... Our quiet fun night got hijacked by two walk up campers w/rollie suitcases. Who car camps without a car🤔. It went downhill from there. Seriously loud drama till 4 in the morning. Swearing, crying, threats. Really bad. We stayed in Primitive site #10 and they were in #9. Should have called the cops.Original review, was 5 ⭐sPretty decent camping for an overnight. The attached park is nice as well. Sites are flat, with picnic tables and fire pits. Bathroom facilities as well. 10 Primitive sites and 30+ suits with electric hookups. Sites are relatively close together though. Hardly anyone here in late April but I can easily see this being full. Stores, restaurants, and gas stations are close by and you're maybe 10-15 minutes from I-70 so you can hear some noise but it's not a bother.
Apr 27, 2024 · Robert QuinnThis is a sweet campground 10 minutes off I70. It was worth it.. Nice grav pads on large sites. Many pull thru and ez back in sites. Some sites have water and electric. Modern shower house. Plenty to do in the area. This Vigo County Rec and Parks group do an excellent job. They close for season Oct 17
Sep 09, 2021 · jt robertsThis campground is full of huge, mature trees. Very pretty. Shower house was ok. It was quiet during our stay. Camp host was strapped. There's clearly some vagrants. We stayed in a water/electric pull through site with a 5th wheel. My biggest complaint is that the lot numbers are posted AWAY from the road. So, if you're trying to see the site numbers, you have to exit your vehicle and walk around to the other side of the post. The water hook up was over 50 feet away from the parking pad, so if you plan to stay be sure to bring a long fresh water hose.
Aug 15, 2024 · T LWe did a 1 night stop over on our way to Michigan. Campground was nicely shaded and quiet. It was only 10ish minutes from interstate 70. The bathrooms were nice and clean and my kids loved the playground over by the labyrinth. We would stop here again if we were in the area.
Aug 03, 2024 · Ashley CorneliusWe had a very nice stay here. Beautiful setting under mature trees. Flat pads at the tent sites. Water supply close by. Seems far away from any roads, very peaceful. Nice access for the trail system in the park for walking and biking. Also connects to bike trails outside the park. Cheap rates for camping, very worth it.
