Heron Pond Camp Introduce
Seeking a reliable "camping near me" spot, especially during potentially wet seasons? Heron Pond Camp, situated in Normanna Township, MN 55804, USA, offers a notable advantage for local campers: its location on high ground. While specific contact information isn't provided, its address in Normanna Township suggests it's within reach for many local outdoor enthusiasts looking for a tent-focused camping experience.
Feedback from recent visitors highlights the key environmental feature of Heron Pond Camp. One camper who stayed in late April noted that despite significant rainfall and snowmelt making the trails very wet, with water sometimes reaching shin-deep, the campsite itself "is on high ground and was pretty dry." This is a significant benefit, indicating that Heron Pond Camp is well-suited for camping even when surrounding areas are waterlogged. For local campers who want to enjoy the outdoors without the worry of a soggy campsite, this is a crucial advantage.
The layout of Heron Pond Camp includes approximately "about 5 tent pads," suggesting a relatively small and potentially intimate camping area. These tent pads likely provide level and designated spots for setting up tents, enhancing the camping experience. Additionally, the presence of a "fire ring" is mentioned, which is a common and desirable amenity for many campers, offering a place for campfires, cooking, and gathering. A particularly appealing feature is that this fire ring "has a view of the pond," implying a scenic focal point for campers staying at Heron Pond Camp.
Another review reinforces the high-ground benefit, stating that it's a "good campsite if you're expecting heavy rain to come your way overnight because it's on high ground." This again underscores the campsite's resilience to wet conditions, providing peace of mind for campers concerned about staying dry. The reviewer also shared their personal experience of remaining "completely dry during an hour-long deluge" thanks to their gear and the campsite's elevated position.
However, this second review also brings up a practical consideration: the availability of firewood. The camper noted, "Not much deadfall nearby, so you may need to go scouting for firewood." This suggests that while the campsite offers a good location, campers should be prepared to actively look for firewood in the surrounding area if they plan to have a fire, or consider bringing their own. This is valuable information for local users planning a trip to Heron Pond Camp.
Combining these observations, Heron Pond Camp offers a relatively dry camping experience due to its high-ground location, even when the surrounding trails are wet. It features around five tent pads and a fire ring with a view of a pond, suggesting a pleasant and scenic camping environment. However, campers should be aware that collecting firewood might require some effort.
For local users browsing the "camping near me" category, Heron Pond Camp in Normanna Township stands out as a potentially reliable option, especially during wetter times of the year. The presence of tent pads indicates designated camping spots, and the pond view from the fire ring adds to the appeal of the location. While the need to scout for firewood is a factor to consider, the primary advantage of a drier campsite could outweigh this for many campers.
There is no promotional information provided in the reviews. Local users interested in Heron Pond Camp would likely benefit from seeking additional details about the campsite from local authorities or camping resources. This could include information on whether reservations are needed, any associated fees, rules and regulations for the area, and more specifics about the amenities available beyond the tent pads and fire ring.
In summary, Heron Pond Camp offers the following features based on the available reviews:
- Located on high ground, providing a drier camping experience even when surrounding areas are wet.
- Approximately five tent pads for setting up tents.
- A fire ring with a view of a pond.
Things to be aware of:
- Limited availability of deadfall for firewood, requiring campers to scout for it.
For local campers in Normanna Township and nearby areas looking for a "camping near me" option that prioritizes a drier campsite and offers scenic views of a pond, Heron Pond Camp appears to be a solid choice, particularly during seasons with higher rainfall. Remember to plan ahead for firewood and consider bringing your own if you prefer not to search for it upon arrival. We encourage you to explore Heron Pond Camp for your next local camping adventure.

Heron Pond Camp Reviews
Stayed here late April. Even though rains and snow melt had the trail very wet (sometimes shin-deep water), this camp is on high ground and was pretty dry. There are about 5 tent pads here, and the fire ring has a view of the pond.
Apr 26, 2019 · Emily SGood campsite if you're expecting heavy rain to come your way overnight because it's on high ground. Thankfully my rain-fly and waterproof base-liner did the rest of the work at keeping me completely dry during an hour long deluge. Not much deadfall nearby, so you may need to go scouting for firewood.
Sep 07, 2022 · Frank BowmanPassed through as opposed to staying overnight, but seemed like a great place to park a tent. Was at a loss of where I would be able to hang my hammock though so was glad I was pressing on for the day. Access to water looked like it would be pretty easy and the view was great.

May 28, 2019 · Brian HolmlundDo NOT take the snowmobile trail while hiking in the summer. Wood tick central. Nearly a week later - finding them around the house!!!😡
