Horse Camp: Walupt Introduce
For local users actively searching for "camping near me" in the vicinity of Randle, Washington, particularly those who are also avid hikers and appreciate direct access to excellent trails, Horse Camp: Walupt, located off NF-2160, Randle, WA 98377, USA (phone: (360) 497-1100 or +1 360-497-1100), presents a compelling option. Reviews from fellow outdoor enthusiasts highlight its prime location for trail access and the cleanliness of the campsites, making it a potentially ideal basecamp for exploring the surrounding natural beauty.
The environment of Horse Camp: Walupt is clearly a major draw, primarily due to its "amazing trail access." This suggests that the campground is strategically situated near or even directly connected to well-maintained and scenic hiking trails, catering perfectly to those who prioritize hiking as part of their camping experience. The proximity to trails allows for convenient and immediate immersion into the natural landscape without the need for extensive travel from the campsite. Furthermore, one reviewer specifically mentioned the easy access to the "incredible Walupt Creek Falls," indicating that the campground serves as a gateway to at least one significant natural attraction in the area. The description of the area around Walupt Creek Falls as "very nice" further emphasizes the scenic value of the location.
In terms of services and features, the reviews provide a mixed but informative picture. The campsites themselves are described as "clean," which is a fundamental expectation for a comfortable camping experience. Cleanliness contributes significantly to the overall enjoyment and hygiene of the stay. Additionally, the presence of "hi lines poles in a nice spot" suggests that the campsites are equipped with features that facilitate organization and convenience, although the specific purpose of these "hi lines poles" isn't detailed (they might be for hanging lanterns, clotheslines, or other camping gear).
However, one significant piece of advice from a reviewer is crucial for potential visitors, especially those traveling with trailers: "DO NOT TAKE GOOGLE DIRECTIONS AND GO ROUTE 23!!! Its not trailer friendly." This is a critical piece of local knowledge that could save campers significant stress and potential damage to their vehicles. It underscores the importance of perhaps seeking alternative directions or verifying routes with local sources, especially when towing trailers. This suggests that while the destination itself is desirable, the journey might require careful planning.
The campground does have bathroom facilities, although one reviewer noted a problem with a door lock in the bathroom across from their site. The lock was reportedly malfunctioning, leading to people getting locked in, and had to be temporarily fixed with tape to prevent latching. The reviewer also mentioned that the camp manager lacked the necessary tools for a proper repair. While the campsites themselves were clean, this issue with the bathroom facility is a point of concern regarding the maintenance and upkeep of the campground's infrastructure. Potential visitors might want to inquire about the status of such facilities before their visit.
Another feature mentioned is the water hand pump, which was described as "a pain" but also as providing a "workout." This suggests that while access to water is available, the method of obtaining it might be physically demanding or inconvenient for some users. Campers who rely heavily on readily available water might need to plan accordingly or bring their own supply in addition to what can be pumped at the site.
Despite these drawbacks, the overall sentiment towards Horse Camp: Walupt appears positive, primarily due to its location and access to natural beauty. The allure of amazing trails and the proximity to Walupt Creek Falls likely outweigh some of the inconveniences mentioned in the reviews. For local users who prioritize hiking and exploring scenic areas, these features are significant advantages.
Promotional information is not explicitly provided in the reviews or the basic campground details. However, the strong emphasis on trail access and the mention of a beautiful waterfall serve as inherent promotional points for the campground. The fact that it's considered a "great camp site" by at least one reviewer also speaks to its overall quality and appeal for those seeking a natural camping experience in the Randle area.
For local users searching for "camping near me" who value direct access to hiking trails and scenic destinations like Walupt Creek Falls, Horse Camp: Walupt should be a strong contender. The clean campsites and the presence of high line poles are additional benefits. However, potential visitors should be aware of the warning regarding Google Directions and Route 23, the reported issue with the bathroom door lock, and the potentially laborious water hand pump. It would be prudent to contact the campground directly at the provided phone numbers, (360) 497-1100 or +1 360-497-1100, to inquire about current conditions, directions, and the status of facilities before making a reservation or heading out.
In conclusion, Horse Camp: Walupt near Randle, WA, offers a prime location for local users seeking "camping near me" with exceptional trail access, including the renowned Walupt Creek Falls. While the campsites are clean and some amenities are present, potential visitors should heed the warning about Route 23 for trailers and be aware of the reported issues with the bathroom facilities and the manual water pump. Despite these drawbacks, the campground's strong connection to nature and hiking opportunities makes it a potentially rewarding destination for outdoor enthusiasts in the region.

Horse Camp: Walupt Reviews
Great camp site with amazing trail access! DO NOT TAKE GOOGLE DIRECTIONS AND GO ROUTE 23!!! Its not trailer friendly. The bathroom across from the site we were in had a bad door lock and was locking people in and had to be taped over so the door could not latch, made things a little awkward and the camp manager did not have any tools so fixing it was out of the question. Other that that the sites were clean and hi lines poles in a nice spot. The water hand pump is a pain but you get your workout on!!
